December 21, 20177 yr Daddy was amazing  As was Napal Baji! Unfortunately his more recent stuff hasn't been as good really :(
December 22, 20177 yr Author Daddy was amazing  As was Napal Baji! Unfortunately his more recent stuff hasn't been as good really :(I liked New Face but it got boring pretty quickly - I've drawn myself in holy water... 74.) Imany – “Don't Be So Shy (Filatov & Karas Remix)" Chart Points: 7901 Lead single, The Wrong Kind Of War Chart Run: 41-27-28-27-26-21-19-19-20-16-13-14-17-24-33-44 (16 weeks) oitNimHZ0lY Take a French singer, add in eurodance remixers and the result is this sexy and tantalizing song that pulls you in from the beginning. It’s sung in a forceful way but at the same time something feels more repressed and subservient. Her tone is somewhere in the middle of pain and climax, and she doesn't want it to stop.
December 22, 20177 yr Author You promised all the stars and then you took the reins... 73.) Karmin - “Didn't Know You” 2nd Single, Leo Rising Points: 8184 Chart Run: 48-40-36-30-24-21-20-14-9-10-8-8-14-18-24-32-41 (11 weeks (17 in total)) Jj3Ie49Mzik Probably the last we’ll see of them because Amy’s milking her Queen Hvrby side project (which means no shirtless Nick for a while :(). This was a sound that I found quite refreshing for them; it was still quirky and true to them but at the same time it was more raw in comparison to their previous eras. It almost felt like a battle scene was about to commence.
December 22, 20177 yr Author I feed them lemons in the limelight... 72.) Iggy Azalea - “Team” Lead Single, Digital Distortion Points: 8242 Chart Run: 35-31-29-22-13-13-10-7-9-16-21-39 (12 weeks) KVGRN7Z7T1A I didn’t know I could get into an Iggy song that goes this hard. While “Fancy” and “Black Widow” were more commercial and had a smoother flow, something about this felt more angry and frustrated, almost as if she can’t really trust anyone in this day and age. This ended up falling off the face of the earth.
December 22, 20177 yr Author She was numb and she was so co-dependent... 71.) The Weeknd - "In The Night" 4th single, Beauty Behind The Madness Points: 8300 Chart Run: 43-36-34-17-10-4--3-4-6-8-10-15-19-24-30-40 (10 weeks (16 in total)) 2iFa5We6zqw So here’s the last of the BBTM singles. Here’s what I said about it last time: I never really followed The Weeknd's singles so closely until now, and even this song came to me by surprise. After the groovy "Can't Feel My Face" and sexpot anthem "The Hills", he switched it up again to an ode to the lady of the night - if you catch my drift. In this one, he tells a story of a girl who is very extroverted and abrasive on the outside, but only uses that as a façade to hide the pain and conflict that she feels on the inside, whatever it may be, and I think that's what we all face in the world. We all face some type of internal conflict in our lives and sometimes other people might not understand, but we smile through the pain anyway. All this analysis really makes me appreciate the song more.I mean, in the end it’s nothing too dissimilar to his previous work which isn’t anything to complain about, but it still works into my head which is good.
December 22, 20177 yr Author 70.) Zedd & Grey - “Adrenaline” Promo Single, TBA Points: 8423 Chart Run: 2-4-7-7-10-14-18-22-29-37-46 (11 weeks) hbMk7_c6nAE Oh yeah this. Highest I’ve charted an instrumental. It was nice to see Zedd deliver something that was more progressive/big room and fit for festivals after the three singles before it were more experimental. He teams up with Grey (again) and what results is a combination of his earlier work with a bit of that future bass pitched wobble. It was a nice track that ended up burning on me quickly, so lo and behold he had “Ignite” to fall back on while he was in the studio.
December 22, 20177 yr Author That's gold, show me some respect... 69.) Meghan Trainor - “Me Too” 2nd Single, Thank You Points: 8469 Chart Run: 48-34-28-23-20-12-9-11-9-10-14-21-30-40 (14 weeks) qDRORgoZxZU Meghan managed to do something extremely campy and that somehow worked for me although it might have not worked for 90% of the general public. Oh well. It’s basically a fun mindless song that makes you want to dance. Also self love. Because that’s always important, even if the execution seems a bit cocky. It’s simplistic and it gets the job done. Exactly what I expected from a song co-penned by Jason DeRulo.
December 22, 20177 yr Author I love the way you hurt me baby... 68.) Fall Out Boy f/Demi Lovato - "Irresistible" Chart Points: 8508 3rd Single, American Beauty / American Psycho Chart Run: 48-44-35-34-32-29-27-22-19-10-8-7-6-9-16-25-37 (9 weeks (17 in total)) 2Lb2BiUC898 Yay more 2015 carryovers. The first of three Demi Lovato appearances, and the first of many potential hits for 2016. Fall Out Boy can just do no wrong for me (yeah, I don't see what's the big issue with "American Beauty / American Psycho", that is punk rock at its finest). This time, they've delved into many different types of rock, from the classic FOB epics in "Centuries" to the teen beach surf-rock flashback that is "Uma Thurman". "Irresistible" falls more into the former category, and while the lyrics are more serenade-ish, the instrumental is on a similar vibe to "Centuries", and I mean more of a "preparing the troops for an epic battle to the death 300-style" vibe. Demi's addition helped fuel this kerosene-embedded masterpiece into something with a bit more fire, especially with her interpolation of the middle 8 ("I still love the the way I hurt you"). I hear this more on Radio Disney, and we all know how they make such shitty radio edits of songs. That "Secondhand smoke, secondhand smoke..." line BELONGS in there.Didnt realize how fast it burnt out on me. This should have done much better IRL. It’s the most old school FOB song out there so far.
December 22, 20177 yr Author Pushing each other to the limits, we were learning quicker... 67.) Lukas Graham - “7 Years” 3rd Single, Lukas Graham Points: 8511 Chart Run: 46-45-38-36-32-29-26-17-12-14-14-12-12-15-20-25-32-37-46 (19 weeks) LHCob76kigA First off, shout out to Pete who has been following this thread and commenting as I catch up! This is a more sullen and contemplative piece, written to describe where Lukas wants to be in the future now that he’s faced with his own parenting journey while subsequently breaking into international markets. It starts off slow and soft at first but then gradually escalated into this electric field of worry. The message and the intent are clear and the execution was flawless.
December 22, 20177 yr Me Too was a proper guilty pleasure for me  Shoutout's to Lukas Graham  Fall Out Boy and Iggy Azealia
December 23, 20177 yr Author I don't wanna be the puppet that you're playing on a string... 66.) Daya - “Sit Still, Look Pretty” 2nd Single, Sit Still Look Pretty Points: 8587 Chart Run: 49-47-45-41-36-33-28-28-28-24-25-20-19-18-18-20-16-16-19-18-22-26-32-41 (24 weeks) uPHKkewD1G0 I managed to take to this more than I did with “Hide Away”, probably because it clicked with me long before it was announced as a single. It’s a strong feminist anthem using the minimalistic production that helped “Hide Away” break into the mainstream. Almost cracking 25 weeks isn’t bad for a song that never reached the top 15.
December 23, 20177 yr Author My mama don't like you and she likes everyone... 65.) Justin Bieber - “Love Yourself” 3rd Single, Purpose Points: 8595 Chart Run: 48-44-41-35-26-26-13-9-7-9-11-14-21-27-35-43 (13 weeks (16 in total)) oyEuk8j8imI It was interesting to see the public take to this song after the first two Bieber songs of that era were dance bangers. It’s very mellow but at the same time vindictive and normally that would be grating but there’s a hilarious irony to this that connects with me. Halsey’s “go f*ck yourself” version also stuck with me.
December 23, 20177 yr Author Only human in the heaving heat of the animals... 64.) Snakehips f/Tinashe & Chance The Rapper - “All My Friends” Lead Single, TBA/All My Friends EP Points: 8813 Chart Run: 35-30-27-14-6-5-7-11-16-22-31-39-50 (13 weeks) I3mrYxPLSH4 ALL MY FRIENDS ARE WASTED What really connected with me in this song was the tone: it was lackadaisical and numb but at the same time there’s hesitation. Tinashe doesn’t want to succumb to everything that’s going on even though her friends are out there taking shots and getting high. That was basically me freshman year: I was so new into partying hard and it made me feel uncomfortable being in the situation. The campfire song structure of the chorus provides a nice hook.
December 23, 20177 yr SO much love for 'Didn't Know You'! Karmin was just so versatile and great at every style they tried. I was so close to sending it to BJSC actually. Hope they come back eventually. 'All My Friends' doing nothing in the US was a tragedy, chart injustice of the year. It was the elusive crossover hit Tinashe needed. :( (Did you ever hear it irl? I heard it once on the radio at my student union and that was it.)

For now... - Ain't going backwards, won't ask for space... 63.) Nick Jonas f/Tove Lo - "Close" Lead Single, Last Year Was Complicated Points: 8951 Chart Run: 35-31-26-21-20-18-14-10-10-10-12-17-25-37-50 (15 weeks) XgJFqVvb2Ws A song with this type of caliber feels a bit risky for someone like Nick but he's pulled off risky songs before ("Chains"). The appeal for this comes from the slightly claustrophobic and hesitant feel of the production, his almost pained tone, Tove Lo's rich voice, and that little breath they take before the chorus starts. From the beginning, you can tell that there's something heavy in the air. It just emanates power and sexual tension that seems to push them closer together, almost crushing them, throughout the song until the last chorus where everything around them blows back, giving them all the space they need.
December 23, 20177 yr Author I probably should wait, but I wanna let you go there... 62.) Zendaya f/Chris Brown - "Something New" Non-album Single Points: 9184 Chart Run: 35-23-17-12-10-7-6-11-15-24-32-44 (12 weeks) IALcdK1fThs I had waited three years for a new Zendaya single; "Replay" was fantastic and stuck with me for a while so I wanted to see what else she had up her sleeve now that she's got more years of wisdom and experience. The result was an interpolation of TLC's "Creep" featuring Chris Brown. Slick, smooth, and a loving tribute to the legacy of TLC. This was going to have an official video but y'know... Chris Brown had to ruin everything after he said something about Kehlani's comments on suicide, thus killing whatever momentum the song had. She needs to make another album. Too bad she's too busy with Tom Holland her movies.
December 23, 20177 yr Author Victory is in my veins, I know it... 61.) Katy Perry - "Rise" Non-album Single Points: 9583 Chart Run: 2-4-5-5-7-10-14-19-25-35-49 (11 weeks) hdw1uKiTI5c GEEZ THAT PRODUCTION. Gives me chills every time. So this wasn't what I was expecting from a Katy Perry comeback, and yet it kinda made sense given the timing of this release. I had been following the gymnastics portion of the Olympics for quite some time (even tuning out the Ryan Lochte mess for that) and this song seemed to fit? Idk. There was something much more powerful within the track, almost like a Game Of Thrones episode. Synth strings straight out of a theatrical trailer, Katy's commanding tone, it all felt calculated, and this was the result - something utterly explosive. Unfortunately that never stuck around post-Olympics so we'll see what 2020 has in store for us. If we live that long. I think this and "Adrenaline" are my worst performing #2's of all time. I'm too lazy to check.
December 23, 20177 yr Author My creativity's only free when I'm playing shows... 60.) Twenty One Pilots - "Lane Boy" 3rd/4th Single - Blurryface Points: 9940 Chart Run: 26-16-13-11-9-6-3-1... (8 weeks) ywvRgGAd2XI I think I've said it all about confusing single releases... this is technically the fourth single (at least in the UK) but it was released as a "single" (more for promo than officially) for the alternative format which didn't really make sense because they were still harboring "Tear In My Heart". The last #1 of 2016 just happens to be the lowest, saving "Guys My Age" (the #1 before it) from being the lowest #1 on the chart. Then again they have split year chart runs, so unfortunately this song was one of the unlucky ones. It's still an improvement from when "Stressed Out" was in the 80's in the 2015 EOY. I had been waiting for this to be released as a single since listening to the entire Blurryface album, and when I saw the announcement that this was gonna be a single in the UK, there was no doubt that I jumped on this. There's a reggae-infused first half which isn't too dissimilar to their usual style, but then it morphs into this jungle/drum n' bass rushing meteor of adrenaline. Everything about this sends your heart racing and obliterates everything in its path. "Don't trust a perfect person and don't trust a song that's flawless" is such a real lyric.
December 23, 20177 yr Author I would rather we just go a different way than play the game... 59.) P!nk - "Just Like Fire" Soundtrack Single, Alice Through the Looking Glass Points: 10041 Chart Run: 42-36-32-28-25-23-16-12-11-9-9-10-14-20-25-31-37-45 (18 weeks) 5Nrv5teMc9Y Pretty much further proof that anything Max Martin touches is gold. It's also another song that took a while to grow on me, but there are so many infectious hooks laced in the song ("we came here to ruuuun IT! run IT!") and the production really adds to the song. It's feel-good pop with a tint of rock to help it become a multi-format radio smash. Also I never cared for Alice Through The Looking Glass so I'll stick with this song.
December 23, 20177 yr Author Dive in deep into the ocean... 58.) Mike Perry f/Shy Martin - "The Ocean" Non-album Single Points: 10247 Chart Run: 47-44-45-39-35-27-20-17-17-15-15-12-12-11-13-15-17-23-30-45 (21 weeks) 5JxgDJvqGmM A bit of a confusing one for me. For a while I kept going on and off whether to write this off as generic because it felt too slow to be a rushing hit yet too fast for me to completely write it off and the drop was semi interesting upon the first couple of listens. I can describe it as some hybrid of tropical house with a hint of what made Seeb interesting. It almost felt like the ocean itself; you want to stay away but something keeps pulling you back in. It finally clicked with me around halfway through BJSC semis and it kept growing and growing. Plus of course I was going to take notice when this got a push in the US. They kinda waited too long to do it though. I find it funny that this was one of the many BJSC entries I debuted during that one chart clearout and this did the best out of all of them. And I gave it less points.
