December 9, 20177 yr Author Now I know I will not fall... 120.) David Guetta f/Sia & Fetty Wap - “Bang My Head” 2nd Single, Listen Again Points: 3200 Chart Run: 48-40-34-27-21-17-18-27-40 (9 weeks) qqjVwAg5fK4 On paper this feels like a standard Guetta/Sia collab, which should be great considering “Titanium” exists. However, you listen to a preview and it sounds like “Lean On” 2.0. What prevents this from being a complete rip-off is the rush of adrenaline from the song, especially in the buildup and following drop. It’s almost as if you want to run into an open field or feel the wind in your hair. It feels much more triumphant, similar to “This One’s For You”, but it has a much stronger air. So that explains the high peak but the low longevity can be explained by high competition pretty much. Same goes for a lot of these songs coming into this. They should have peaked a lot higher.
December 9, 20177 yr Author But your Brother was a good substitute for you... 119.) Kiiara - “Gold” Lead Single, low kii savage Points: 3229 Chart Run: 44-44-38-35-37-31-28-25-21-23-22-31-43 (13 weeks) sO9cBXRcBvo Many consider the appeal in “Gold” to come from the chorus where Felix Snow takes random bits from the first verse and combines them into this weird alien technology sound. Kiiara’s almost scathing delivery get me in this one. In this case she’s referring to a relationship that went south (as 90% of songs do) - he’s completely oblivious to the problems in the relationship, and she’s 1000% DONE. She seems to be running her own life and enjoying being independent for once, and she gives no f*cks about it. The gag does end up getting a bit old but it’s still pretty damn catchy.
December 9, 20177 yr Author So now I'm running like you set me free out in the wild... 118.) Steve Aoki & Boehm f/Walk The Moon - “Back 2 U” Non-album Single Points: 3374 Chart Run: 44-31-28-27-27-24-27-22-24-33 (10 weeks) QNkbw5h7pOQ Oh wow this burned on me quickly Probably one of the rare instances where you think it’s gonna end up being one subgenre of dance or another and it ends up being somewhere in between. Steve Aoki did THAT. It’s probably worth noting that I like a lot of these songs for their drops and I think Nicholas’ voice sounds pretty good in this. I will say that I do think Boehm had more of a hand in this than Steve.
December 9, 20177 yr Author Stuck in a limbo, half hypnotized... 117.) DNCE - “Toothbrush” 2nd Single, SWAAY EP Points: 3388 Chart Run: 50-46-38-36-31-30-20-16-18-26-42 (11 weeks) UrUJyKsLQeU It’s definitely a funky song, it just didn’t have as much appeal as “Cake By The Ocean”. However, I don’t think this really deserved to flop. It’s a carefree summer anthem about a relationship that is more laissez-faire but more because he doesn’t know how to address this situation. That’s pretty much all I can say about this though.
December 9, 20177 yr Toothbrush is terrrrrrible. The decline of DNCE this year has been pleasing to see. :D Loving a lot of these recently revealed songs though; Rockabye, The Right Song, Bang My Head, Gold are all brilliant.
December 10, 20177 yr Author Your lips are movin', I can't hear a thing... 116.) Alan Walker - "Sing Me To Sleep” Non-album single Points: 3415 Chart Run: 48-41-35-32-33-28-27-25-22-19-26-41 (12 weeks) 2i2khp_npdE So this was basically a "Faded" clone that ended up not doing as well as its predecessor. It's not necessarily a bad thing when you get into specifics but it doesn't really show his versatility as a producer. It feels more lulled and sedated, unlike "Faded" which was more emotionally charged and mentally exhausting. Iselin's voice is almost like a child's, innocent and unassuming. But then it starts to build up... and then builds up again. It more or less yo-yo's around being calm and being free and energetic.
December 10, 20177 yr Author I was warned but fooled by charm... 115.) Meghan Trainor f/Yo Gotti - “Better” 3rd Single, Thank You Points: 3572 Chart Run: 38-27-24-19-16-16-30-45 (8 weeks) l82D-qmp4LE It was very refreshing to listen to Meghan take on more current trends in music rather than the doo-wop styles from her previous album and the obvious 2000’s sound in “No” (+ “Me Too” being “Scream & Shout” lite), so to see this clearly flop was a bit... underwhelming. It’s another empowering breakup anthem but one that sounds very calm and collected, more or less resigned to the fact that her ex is trash. Yo Gotti’s part tries to contradict this but at the same time admitting he’s trash.
December 10, 20177 yr Gold and Toothbrush are my favourites in that section, gold more so because it was a #1 for me
December 10, 20177 yr Author Just use your eyes to see... http://i.imgur.com/LmvF21p.jpg 114.) Pixel Fix - "You Settle Me” Non-album single Points: 3415 Chart Run: 42-28-22-22-20-22-23-25-34-50 (10 weeks) ZaxGQhbZIL8 I just found out they supported LIGHTS during her tour at one point! That's amazing :o A noticeably random fave of mine considering my tastes, but this really is a good song. This is subtlety at its finest, and a slice of electro indie that I can really get into, and that type of song from that genre comes a dime a dozen (like "Weekends" - commentary pending). I'm kinda sad everyone missed out on hearing this because I think it's something that could really worm into people's ears. That "rushing, rushing" part always gets me. Six weeks at the top 25 range is surprising actually.
December 10, 20177 yr Author Gold and Toothbrush are my favourites in that section, gold more so because it was a #1 for me :wub:oh yeah I remember seeing something in the rate about how you put it at #1... and then said it flopped
December 10, 20177 yr Author Don't walk away, my love won't hurt... http://i.imgur.com/dWA9asz.jpg 113.) Diplo & Sleepy Tom - "Be Right There" Chart Points: 3662 Non-album single Chart Run: 40-37-30-25-17-13-8-8-6-5-6-12-17-22-27-32-37-45 (8 weeks (18 in total)) w-5PHBFLMLk I'll be right there for youuuuuuuuuuu ~ Now THIS was an earworm. Diplo should stick his name into more songs like this. I found this song through a mid-day mix on my local radio station while I was in the car and the first thing I thought was what the name of it was. I knew Sleepy Tom through "Pusher" which was one of my potentials for BJSC (which I found through A-Trak's record label), but I was unsure whether he was going to have some new stuff out. Then this happened. I had a feeling it was going to smash somewhere but I didn't know where, then I found out it was going to impact in the UK. It eventually reached top 10 there which was amazing. Diplo has honestly killed it this year, and I'm awaiting more from him.I think if it had its 2015 points this would be somewhere near the top 60. Definitely one of the more notable 2015 carryovers.
December 10, 20177 yr Author I can tell you're trying hard, but still they don't see... 112.) Kilian & Jo f/Erik Rapp - "Suburbia" Chart Points: 3978 Non-album single Chart Run: 46-29-19-11-6-... (5 weeks) rU5EQItO9-U Got this high in the span of five weeks *.* I found it on the same website I found "Higher" (amongst other songs) and immediately fell in love with this because of the production. It's like "Walking With Elephants" but actually good. What ended up turning this into an obsession was the combination of the lyrics and structure. Seeing this video reminded me of how amazing Erik Rapp's overall aesthetic is - I need a collab of him with Betty Who IMMEDIATELY - and it's really interesting how he makes the lyrics his own on this one. They're sung with an air of confidence, yet he's screaming out of desperation. He's crushing on a guy who doesn't play it safe, not stuck in the same routine as everyone else, and yet he knows there's so much that could go wrong with him.
December 10, 20177 yr Author Let's take our time to say what we want... 111.) Meghan Trainor f/John Legend - "Like I'm Gonna Lose You" Chart Points: 4031 4th Single, Title Chart Run: 49-38-32-31-28-20-17-16-16-15-14-21-29-40 (7 weeks (14 in total)) 2-MBfn8XjIU When I saw "Dear Future Husband" flop, I thought this was going to do nothing on the charts but it ended up taking off near the tail-end of the year. It was one of the best tracks off the album and one of the best-selling cherry picked tracks when the album was released, so I'm had this ended up becoming a single anyway. It features John Legend, who partially redeems himself for creating the abomination that is "All Of Me" and subsequently ruining any chance "Lay Me Down" had on swaying the public on Sam Smith's side. Oy vey. Then this came along and he actually sounded really good in it, so all in all a nice track for the holidays. It's interesting to see how much this has stuck with me since. It's still pretty omnipresent, so even though we're not hearing "All About That Bass" so much we get a decent dose of Meghan with this song every once in a while. I think I've gotten used to John Legend's melodramatic delivery in every song.
December 10, 20177 yr Sing Me To Sleep is incred  one of the best produced dance songs in recent memory. Love Be Right There too, how to use a sample effectively!
December 10, 20177 yr Sing Me To Sleep  Shame that all his songs since have been decreasing in quality..
December 10, 20177 yr Bang My Head, Sing Me to Sleep and Be Right there are all great dance tracks! Although the amount of time Bang My Head spent in the UK Top 40 made me despair :P
December 11, 20177 yr Author These Hollywood dreams started in the bedroom... 110.) DVBBS & Shaun Frank f/Delaney Jane - "La La Land" Chart Points: 4067 Non-album Single Chart Run: 45-31-24-20-19-15-17-30-45 (9 weeks) OTAqCmGXf7s So another Shaun Frank appearance! And another CanCon, wow I'm so predictable :P DVBBS are more known for their massive collab with Borgeous called "Tsunami", and this is the only song by either act that has surpassed that. It's a more chilled future bass offering, and recruiting Delaney Jane on it made sense, as she's able to create that lulled feeling.
December 11, 20177 yr Author Smoke and sunset off Mulholland.. http://i.imgur.com/Zlbat7W.jpg 109.) Disclosure f/Lorde - "Magnets" Chart Points: 4084 4th single, Caracal Chart Run: 40-36-26-21-23-17-15-12-12-10-9-10-12-18-18-23-23-24-29-32-36-43-48-49 (12 weeks (24 weeks in total)) b_KfnGBtVeA Next up is the song that I really want to smash in the US; to be honest, I'm getting tired of Disclosure being branded as a one-hit wonder in countries other than the UK and down under because a lot of people have only heard "Latch". This song is much more seductive and powerful. It features Lorde (see, more of Taylor Swift's squad) taking on the power of UK garage/deep house with such flawlessness and grace. This is the one thing that I want to hear from Lorde because it's the perfect blend of electro/dance beats and the kind of indie pop she always pulls off. This is by far the best track on Caracal and it need to be pushed in the US NOW.And this never happened and I'm really pissed because of it because it's probably one of my favorite Disclosure songs as of late. Interesting to see Lorde be omnipresent on this chart over the years. 24 weeks is pretty impressive actually.
December 11, 20177 yr Author You can keep all the memories... 108.) Gwen Stefani - "Used To Love You" Chart Points: 4124 Lead single, This Is What The Truth Feels Like Chart Run: 47-33-28-24-16-13-13-9-8-8-12-21-35 (5 weeks (13 in total)) zeT_nYtjgTQ I am pretty sure all of us are still waiting for that proper Gwen Stefani comeback after the last one... fell flat on its butt worldwide. The now proposed lead single for her upcoming third solo album, Gwen channels the emotional roller coaster that was the fourth quarter of the year and out came this. It's one of her most heartfelt songs yet and I almost burst into tears whenever she performs this. It's strange because it looked like it was going to be a successful campaign for her: AMA performance, The Voice performance, slowly breaking through pop radio, and now with further research, all of that has somehow stopped. Which is a shame since it's been hailed as one of her best songs yet.Unlike "Magnets", this almost happened but ended up peaking way too early and killing off the era prematurely, which is kind of a shame considering this is Gwen's most mature non-No Doubt piece ever.
December 11, 20177 yr Author Rollin through cities like a storm... http://www.unpopularlyrics.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Transviolet-Transviolet-lyrics1.jpg 107.) Transviolet - "New Bohemia" Chart Points: 4124 3rd single, Transviolet EP Chart Run: 37-33-26-26-26-20-18-19-20-37 (10 weeks) orSl4qnc1iM The other song I tried sending to BJSC but ended up getting vetoed. The track I ended up sending, "Bring Back The Summer", appears much later. (Still confused on how that became a top 10, I thought my BJSC career had ended before it qualified) It's a very anthemic indie-pop song, and one that I thought would get a US impact date. The lyrics start off very soft and dreamy, but then the song gathers all of its energy into developing a sing-songy chorus that worms into your ears. I dunno, I guess it falls in line with what I've been liking over that year so lo and behold here it is.
