Hiatus – Precious Little If you were wondering what my avatar was for a few months~ I have charted and discussed many types of instrumentals in here, long crazy ones, epic classical ones to subtle minimalist mysterious ones, but by far the best I have heard this year is a completely simple piano led instrumental, if not just for refreshingly nice it sounds but for the sheer emotional depth contained into such a simple song structure. Those four piano keys never change throughout the song, only accompanied at the end by some strings that increase the goosebumps factor even more, yet it remains so chilling and wonderful, it's rare I completely stop what I'm doing when I'm surfing through Youtube looking for music but this definitely made me took notice. The context behind the song makes it even sadder - recorded as a charity release back in 2014 to help innocents caught in the crossfire in the Palestinian wars (which you can still donate to, certainly the best way of downloading it). Even without that though, just the simple artwork in the video below and the touching , it's the sort of music that can just make you stop and think and tug on your heartstrings and it still does listening to it now. One I was very pleased to find and share on here and I highly encourage you to listen if you don't know it (just bring the tissues). uBryTk9HUMc
January 4, 20178 yr Author oh darn so close to a new page for my number 1, close enough~ http://i68.tinypic.com/2zf1ykm.jpg 1. Alan Walker – Faded I know I know, I spent pretty much the WHOLE of this countdown moaning about the state of the charts and my EOY number 1 is a track that...was a chart hit lol, fraud etc. Well, it iss hard of me to let go of the charts given they played a big part in my growing up BUT there still is the one, out-of-nowhere gem that becomes a hit and restores my faith in the UK public, Tilted was one and this was the other - Faded is utterly glorious start to finish, the instrumental that it originally was is of course wonderful with it's sombre piano followed by relentless synths, but actually, and this is rare of me to say, I think the vocals add to this a lot, whoever the vocalist is, she does a good Ellie Goulding impression, and Faded does sound like one of the tracks of her Halcyon era which is a wonderful thing to be and add an extra layer of emotional depth to the song, the way she says 'Atlantis' always gets me for some reason..., another reason I loved it was cos it harkened back to a time when dance music like this could actually do well and where I actually really enjoyed the charts and rediscovering past hits, it's a shame it didn't lead the trance revival, but maybe there's still time~ Why is it my EOY number 1? Honestly it was close, any of the top 3 could've got it, I went with this as I've been exposed to it a fair bit this year (it being one of the few tracks I didn't mind hearing over and over on 4Music's stale playlist) and while the sort of emotional dance music I've been talking about in this thread unfortunately remains under the radar for the most part, but when an example of it is actually successful to the point I'm not only hearing it of my own accord, it's really great and it thus has stuck out to me this year, and I thought why not have a non-obscure song (with VOCALS as well, which hasn't been the case since 2012) at number 1 just so you all know I'm still human~ Still lots of  and I can only hope the public get it right once again with a similar out of nowhere song next year! 60ItHLz5WEA

Thanks for everyone who read and commented, I didn't respond but I appreciate them all  (and will hopefully return the favour soon) Hope you all got something to like here as well, maybe something you didn't know x Obligatory thanks to all peeps that provided a BJSC or UP entry here, they very much inform my listening habits so this list wouldn't really be possible without you! Here's to 2017 being marginally better and still providing me with the tunes ;o Edited January 4, 20178 yr by Chez Wombat
January 4, 20178 yr What a top 10. What an amazing top 10. I shall need to consider Empire Of Angels and Around The World In A Tea Daze quite strongly when I get around to compiling my list (I still haven't finalised the order), I had some great times with them after their associated contests. And of course Free Tibet is brilliant. Requiem though, I knew it was your BJSC #1 but I didn't expect to see it quite so high up here, I'm really pleased someone else loves it as much as me, that really is quite the amazing feeling and yeah, glad you enjoyed it and its wonderful drops and vocal samples and energy that keeps me coming back tons and tons of times (and a reference to my anime reviews yay, I'm almost at the point where I actually am going to be using my EOY thread for songs like everyone else but I'm being quite long-winded about it). Above that, Life Itself I do remember liking but it's the top 3 that really stand out. Tilted has been an excellent song to see become a hit, I'm ashamed I never understood what was so brilliant about Christine until Tilted came out but love it to pieces now, Hiatus was definitely one of your best this year, that piano ballad is heart-wrenching and thoughtful, great choice for a #2. Faded is a completely understandable and brilliant #1, definitely one of the few great things about the charts this year and a track that remained unsullied by overplay, awesome #1. This is all so similar to my thoughts on the tracks this year, I know my list will have plenty of differences but still I expect to be putting a lot of the tracks you've put high here also very high so excellent EOY and great commentaries throughout.
January 7, 20178 yr great to see 'Faded' top this chart, one of my big faves of the year also  Alan Walker is definitely one of my faves at the moment, his follow-ups have been excellent as well but the UK haven't taken to them
January 8, 20178 yr Oh yay! I'm glad you liked 'Tantalized' so much! It's definitely impossible for me to listen to it just once. Will sound great in the summer too! None of Fever High's other tracks are quite good enough for me to recommend but I'm keeping an eye out for more from them. Great winner and plenty of faves here as a whole. They seem to be mainly near the bottom ('Into You', 'Revolver', 'Roses') but much love for 'Free Tibet' near the top as well!
January 16, 20178 yr Fantastic choice of #1, Faded is a massive tune and something totally different to what I'd usually like
