January 1, 20178 yr Author 6. 1 15 HURTS Emeli Sande 1154750 9TqUlGyWSEk At 6 (sorry Sam!) Emeli's comeback hit, her best record by far, and ...Streamers ignored it, being far too bpm exciting for the bland Spotify playlists! It was top 10 on sales, though, cos it's just genius, the production class shines through the passion, you believe every word she sings, effortlessly a brilliant vocalist, Emeli puts younger pretenders to shame. This is how you do it! Still going strong in my charts...
January 1, 20178 yr Author 5. 1 31 SWIPE TO THE RIGHT Jean-Michel Jarre featuring Cyndi Lauper 1165400 0woaS_rEE5M Jean-Michel hit my number two in 1977 with his classic synth (EDM) Oxygene Pt 4, and Cyndi top 10 with Girls Just Wanna Have Fun in 1984, but both had to wait until 2016 to top my charts for the first time. Well worth the wait, this is a brilliant joint effort, taking the best bits from both artists and making a combined quirky, cool, banging EDM tune which should have sold millions and millions. The lack of a video and being 60-something probably didn't help, but even so, it's very modern referencing (Swipe To The Right) and is a contemporary slant on an old timeless theme - obsessive love/lust.
January 1, 20178 yr Author 4. 1 24 BURN Pet Shop Boys 1168150 ooIWFjD-Y84 Top PSB of the year is one that didn't immediately leap out to me on the album, and yet to be a single, but it's classic pure dance joy in the style of their biggest dance hits - that's perhaps why it didn't initially jump out, but it's such a builder, makes me wanna dance like an old madman (in a cool sort of way!) I'm still hoping it's the next single for the next part of the Super tour. Fab!
January 1, 20178 yr Author 3. 1 7 WHEN YOU KNOW Robbie Williams 1190000 A1GiHbLNJII Most romantic record of 2016, by far, is this story of what I assume is Robbie's life before falling in love (he is nothing if not autobiographical in his clever, unpretentious-yet-lovely lyrics) and Guy Chambers is back on board for one of his greatest melodies. I just love the harp, the build, and the "up on the hill" bit gives me goosebumps. Just. Gorgeous. Next single, please Robbie! Still topping my chart and climbing fast...
January 1, 20178 yr Author 2. 1 21 SAVE IT Salt Ashes 1272900 vPo1ehHrrQE If there's a track released this year that deserves to smash in 2017, it's this one. A big club tune, the best track entered for buzzjack in 2016, and an absolute classic dance number. The song is soulful, singalong, a huge chorus, the verse is fantastic, and the end break spine-tingling, a rousing peak for a song that is perfectly produced and sung by the yet-to-break Salt Ashes. This should be a world monster hit if there's any justice....
January 1, 20178 yr Author 1. 1 26 FADED/ FADED (RESTRUNG) Alan Walker featuring Iselin Solheim 1453650 60ItHLz5WEA A huge European hit for the young Scandinavian DJ, this is just perfect pop, with a terrific vocal from Iselin. A fab toon, lots of twiddly little synth hooks, and it worked just as well in the gorgeous orchestral Restrung version (which gave it a boost in my charts, and led it to top my list for the year). Even the UK made it a hit, late in the day as usual these days, but at least it was a biggie. I may even prefer the Restrung version right now.... bDmzGLrdjxQ
