February 13, 20178 yr Is Cheryl actually still doing music? With her being pregnant I can't see her releasing something anytime soon. I think her (and also Rita Ora) have quietly left the music business at least for now.
February 13, 20178 yr Cheryl depends on the song and promo I think but I could imagine her doing a Love Me Like You or Body On Me in week 1! (and yes she is still working on music)
February 14, 20178 yr Idg all those "x with the correct song" lol. Surely a lot of acts can debut top 10 with the right song? Like, even some who are not A-list. For lead singles right now I'd say Drake, Eminem (yes, still), Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Beyoncé (with a proper release), Little Mix, Adele.......... and I think those are it tbh. Maybe Justin Timberlake too. I don't think Jess Glynne and Sam Smith are an automatic top 10 debut. Look at what happened to Jessie J and Rita Ora (who had a lot of release pop buzz like Jess) or Emeli Sande and Duffy (who had a first album trajectory similar to Sam Smith). Or even with Katy Perry, who everyone thought was a shoo-in. Cheryl Cole wouldn't even go top 20 in the streaming age. She had super front-loaded #1 songs which I don't think translate to a top 10 debut nowadays. Edited February 14, 20178 yr by André
February 16, 20178 yr Just as a reference, these are the only lead artists who have managed to debut top 10 since the start of 2016, using OA/OS (so no Sigala). Katy of course hasn't charted just yet but she's a dead cert for the top 10 tomorrow so no harm in including her. Bruno Mars (24K Magic) Calvin Harris (This Is What You Came For, My Way) Clean Bandit (Tears, Rockabye) DJ Snake (Let Me Love You) Ed Sheeran (Shape of You, Castle on the Hill) Justin Timberlake (CAN'T STOP THE FEELING!) Katy Perry (Chained To the Rhythm) Little Mix (Shout Out to My Ex) Louis Tomlinson (Just Hold On) Major Lazer (Cold Water) Matt Terry (When Christmas Comes Around) Steve Aoki (Just Hold On) Stormzy (Big For Your Boots) The Chainsmokers (Paris) The Weeknd (Starboy) ZAYN (PILLOWTALK) Notes to bear in mind: - I think it's safe to say both Cold Water and Let Me Love You debuted top 10 more on the name power of Justin Bieber than the lead artists. Of course Justin himself had three OA/OS top 10s at the end of 2015. - re. Steve Aoki, I very much doubt Just Hold On would've entered so high if it weren't for Louis' name being attached! Some songs that may well have debuted top 10 if they had a full week of sales (all climbed in during their first full week): Drake - Fake Love Drake feat. Wizkid & Kyla - One Dance Niall Horan - This Town (actually debuted at #100 on just a few hours of pure sales only!) Rihanna feat. Drake - Work Sia feat. Kendrick Lamar - The Greatest So in conclusion, it's a really narrow field :')
February 18, 20178 yr so basically it's just the following that we know for certain have the name power to debut top 10: Adele Bruno Mars Calvin Harris Clean Bandit Drake Ed Sheeran Justin Bieber Justin Timberlake Katy Perry Little Mix One Direction + solo members Rihanna Sia The Chainsmokers The Weeknd X Factor winner we could also be adding Take That and Selena Gomez to the list next week depending on where 'Giants' and 'It Ain't Me' chart. Also the likes of Eminem, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Sam Smith, Fifth Harmony - we'll have to wait and see.
February 18, 20178 yr Taylor's an anomaly really, she's certainly big enough to get a top 10 debut in normal circumstances, but god knows what her Spotify situation will be come the next era :drama:
February 18, 20178 yr She debuted at #4 with Bad Blood with zero streaming so it's certainly very much possible!
February 18, 20178 yr I think she'll put her comeback single on Spotify in week two after she sees the disappointing first week chart positions, similarly to IDWLF.
February 18, 20178 yr Author I think it'll be on Spotify from week one tbh, when her label sees how dominiant streaming is in the chart they'll put it on, no questions asked.
February 18, 20178 yr Lady Gaga Amy Winehouse if she was still alive Lady Gaga = no. Perfect Illusion failed to debut top 10! Amy Winehouse... hard to tell as she hasn't been around for years :(
February 18, 20178 yr It can't be long before Zara Larsson and possibly Dua Lipa are added to the list.
February 18, 20178 yr Kygo :o I don't think it's his name that's propelling 'It Ain't Me' into the top 10, it wouldn't be doing quite as well if Selena was replaced by some random vocalist.
February 18, 20178 yr I think it's the double name power of both Kygo and Selena that's helping It Ain't Me do so well tbh! Selena herself wouldn't quite be a big enough name for an official top 10 debut I don't think (although top 10 on iTunes would surely happen).
February 19, 20178 yr That song is all about Kygo. LEts be honest Selena Gomez is a lingerie hanger, anyone can sing in her place. What a song by Kygo BTW. He is a masterpiece
