The X Factor is down over 1m on the 5.52m the Saturday show of last year's finale received. The Sunday show last year received 7.02m - frankly, I can't see tonight's show rating over 6m.
December 3, 20177 yr Not surprised at X Factor. Having only 5 live shows before the final and a whopping 16 finalists was a big mistake. Hardly anybody cares about the contestants. Not much room for a "journey" when it's only a 2 minute sprint to the local corner shop. I feel like I know the Just Eat "chefs" better than most of the finalists. Maybe 2018 will see only a slight decrease going by the trends shown, but it really can't to afford to fall. Elsewhere, good to see Strictly above 10m again, but a shame that Blue Planet II now dips under. Next weekend should be really good for both shows though as they face little competition from ITV. Attenborough and the Great Elephant airs Sunday at 9pm which is a clash with I'm a Celeb, but nearly two hours of 10m viewers as a lead in could help it out a lot.

So far, the series has had an average of 9.98m - for comparison, the 2016 series averaged 9.76m at this stage. Including the final, 2016 averaged 9.84m, so this series is definitely going to beat that. Strictly helped Countryfile receive its highest rating since February (that month saw the programme rate 7.48m, 7.47m and 7.4m, the only three episodes this year that rated higher than last night). Blue Planet II over the 10m again for its series finale. The series average was 10.47m, which is 820k higher than the average of Planet Earth II last year (9.65m). Attenborough and The Giant Elephant wasn't huge like I anticipated it to be (I was quite off there!) but still rated very well against I'm a Celeb. Likewise, The Chase rated well against Blue Planet. I'm a Celeb receives its lowest finale since 2008 but it's obviously still a fab rating. This series averaged 7.87m which is down on the 8.47m average of 2016's series, but I don't think there's any reason for concern just yet - I can see them turning it around again next year. December 11, 20177 yr I’m A Celeb can turn it around by getting better personalities next year. It got epically boring by the end, no matter how endearing Toff turned out to be.
December 11, 20177 yr Author I’m A Celeb can turn it around by getting better personalities next year. It got epically boring by the end, no matter how endearing Toff turned out to be. Agreed. I didn't watch any of this year's but I've heard the personalities weren't that exciting and I can't say I saw all that much media attention around the show either. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the format of the show unlike The X Factor so I very much doubt this year is the start of a decline or anything. Speaking of The X Factor, the finale could only consolidate to 5.76m, just 560k higher than the overnight. That's 1.8m down on last year's final: The X Factor Final Ratings Series 01 (2004) - 9.96m Series 02 (2005) - 9.99m Series 03 (2006) - 10.78m Series 04 (2007) - 12.23m Series 05 (2008) - 14.06m Series 06 (2009) - 16.28m Series 07 (2010) - 17.72m Series 08 (2011) - 13.69m Series 09 (2012) - 11.50m (excluding +1) Series 10 (2013) - 10.20m (excluding +1) Series 11 (2014) - 9.88m (excluding +1) Series 12 (2015) - 8.83m (excluding +1) Series 13 (2016) - 7.56m Series 14 (2017) - 5.76m The series averaged just 6.34m, down 1.28m on last year's average. December 11, 20177 yr I'm A Celeb would probably benefit from a few years' break. People actually would miss it!
December 11, 20177 yr I’m a Celeb is still catching up a lot more on officials, still down on last year but not as bad as the overnights suggest! I definitely agree there’s no concerns yet, it’s had dips and highs before, not like The X Factor which rose and then dived and has gone through so many changes it doesn’t know what is what anymore.
