I am praying for Wiktoria, I Can't Go On is ok but I am failing to see what's so great about it, especially compared to Constellation Prize. Nano is worse though, again not awful but a Poundland Rudimental album track. It sounds like something WE'D try and send to be a bit more current but still be stuck in 2014. I'm going to try not to even entertain the idea that it'll be Jon Henrik :/ :/

Looks like it's just me that isn't on board with Wictoria. AT ALL. It's just so bloody twee and her vocals are "iffy". Saying that, it's not as bad as "Save Me". I really disliked Frans and I'm not mentally prepared for Sweden to send two below-par entries on the bounce.

I genuinely think it this year could go in one of 5 or so directions. I can't see juries lapping up Wictoria - she would need a large boost from public to edge it?

Oh I forgot about Mariette, she'd be good too if it can't be Wiktoria. I'd love Ace to do it, but I agree with Rich I don't think this will be top 3, probably around 5th-7th. I personally still prefer the other two, I love Wild Child but I don't think it's resonated with the public in the same way.

I am hoping Loreen can do a Robin and grow through AC but I think it will take longer than that with the general public :/ I think personally it will be between Wiktoria, Mariette, Robin and sadly Jon Henrik perhaps. But as with Ace, I feel like if his other entry didn't do it, this won't, perhaps I'm just being idealistic...

Whatever they send can't be as bad as 2010 or 2013. I know it isn't THAT long ago but the last time Sweden was in contention for my favourite Eurovision entry was 2014, so if Wiktoria that'll be a huge step up on the last couple of entries.

I didn't mind You, that was probably about the 2nd best of that final because all the results were such a shambles! Begging really should have won though, that was by some distance the best of the 2013 final. This Is My Life was ok but a total misfire as an entry, it was just a nice little song that a "lesser" country would send and DNQ with. If I Were Sorry is the real stinker for me but I acknowledge the appeal it had for wider audiences. I think should they go for Robin or Jon Henrik, they'll flop (at least comparatively to how they've done since Sanna) and it'll be hugely disappointing for me :/

Now IMAGINE if the run of entries was Kom-Popular-Euphoria-Begging-Undo-Don't Worry-Statements/As I Lay Me Down *.*

Can't, I'm dreaming of a run of Kom-I'm In Love-Euphoria-Heartbreak Hotel-Busy Doin' Nothin'-Jag Ar Fri-Kizunguzungu-Wild Child. :P I still don't think I've seen a song contest result more disappointing than 2013, that great final, the right winner on televotes and then they ruined it with that. (ensuring precisely zero people were truly happy with that final)

The Swedes really need to stop this run of the second placers being better than the winners. I'm not confident this won't stop that streak either.

I would have preferred Keep On Walking in 2010, though Kom was incredible too of course. I don't really understand how Anna took the momentum there when those two songs were on offer in the final, both of which I think would have been top 10 with ease at Eurovision.

2011/12/14/15 were perfect for me and Frans was my favourite in 2016, even though it was quite a weak year for my personal taste.

2013 was a joke, You was amongst the best of a bad bunch. I preferred all of Begging, Bed On Fire and Falling to that but I don't think any of those would have been top 10 at Eurovision. Agnes should have returned to sing Heartstrings, in place of Janet Leon, an INCREDIBLE pop song given to a ropey live singer/performer. It was still No.5 in my end of year chart though, such was the quality of the studio version!

Edited by gooddelta

Yep Heartstrings was by absolute MILES the best Melfest song of 2013, I always thought it should have been Agnes or just some Idol singer who got far enough to prove they can perform and sing at least  In fact Heartstrings was my favourite Eurovision related song of 2013 full stop, definitely one of the most mismatched song quality to performer talent cases since I've watched Melfest!

Hmm, if we're excluding stuff that wasn't even close to a contender (as I'd obviously pick Bada Nakna for last year), my 2010- run would go something like:

Kom > Popular > Amazing > Begging > Busy Doin' Nothin' > Heroes > Don't Worry

That is a very samey list looking at it though and Sweden would definitely have a reputation for only ever sending hot guys by now... and Ace Wilder.

From 2002 (the year the format changed) onwards my run would be:

The One That You Need > Not A Sinner, Nor A Saint > Det gör ont > Håll om mig (or Alcastar, but I feel this should have been Nanne's moment) > Evighet > A Little Bit Of Love > Hero > Stay The Night > Keep On Walking > Popular > Euphoria > Heartstrings (or Begging of realistic contenders) > Undo > Heroes > If I Were Sorry (or Constellation Prize...I like them about the same)

Imagine if that happened, Alcazar - the gods of Melodifestivalen.

I didn't start watching Melfest until 2009, but I've gone back and watched some older clips. How Nanne didn't win with Håll om mig was mind boggling to me.

Håll om mig losing to bloody Las Vegas is still absolutely ridiculous, what a song. 2011 was my first year taking notice, but Cara Mia from before is definitely one I wish had snatched a Melfest win as well as Håll om mig.

2008 was the first year I watched properly, though I was aware of it from 2006 as I remember being obsessed with BWO's Temple Of Love at the time and wondering where it had come from.

I was so taken by the whole thing in 2008 that I wrote a third of my uni dissertation (which was on Europop generally) on it *.* And as an appendix I produced a CD of 20 Europop/Schlager songs, including Hero of course, to educate my tutor accordingly.

Andreas Johnson and Frans aside, WHAT A LIST *.*

2007 was difficult, I LOVED the whole top five, but apart from Cara Mia it was pretty anti-Buzzjack, with a glam rock winner and wannabe rocker second, but A Little Bit Of Love is what I go back to the most.

I also still hammer I Remember Love by Sarah Dawn Finer, but it's a little bit 'basic X Factor winner's single' compared to her later work, even though I think it's glorious, and could have done quite well at Eurovision, looking at how well Russia tend to do with that sort of song.

Has to be Wiktoria for me. I can't stop playing it.

Would be happy with Ace or Marietta as well.

Not Benjamin, Loreen or Nano please. The worst of what's left.

Still think Roger Pontare and Crucified were the best of all the songs

From 2003 onwards

My perfect MF results scenario

Not a sinner nor a saint / Genom eld och vatten

Älvorna

Om natten / Håll om mig

Kalla nätter / Mi amore

Cara mía

Lay your love on me / Hero

Snälla snälla

Keep on walking

My heart is refusing me

Euphoria

Rockin the ride / Jalla dansa sawa

Busy doin nothin

Make me / Don't stop believing

Don't worry

A million years

In some cases can't or won't be choosing between the two

2009: Stay The Night

2010: Human Frontier :o

2011: Popular

2012: Euphoria

2013: In And Out Of Love

2014: Blame It On The Disco

2015: Heroes

2016: Bada Nakna

TBH - 2010 and 2013 sucked. 2016 was between three songs for me, none of which was Franz.

The interesting thing tomorrow will be whether Wiktoria sustains her lead or whether she's just getting a bit of a boost from being available immediately whereas the others have had to wait weeks. Robin is definitely looking strongest from the first 3 heats on Spotify, iTunes, YouTube views so it looks like it is between him and Wiktoria at this stage.

I guess Jon Henrik will challenge for the top of the televote too, although I presume international juries will put him behind the likes of Wiktoria and Robin. Nano still is just favourite ahead of Wiktoria, but he seems to be on the same level as Mariette regarding popularity on various platforms - the second level behind Wiktoria and Robin. I'm surprised Robin is only 5th/6th in the odds!

I've decided As I Lay Me Down is above even Statements for me, it's pure pop joy and that's something that the list of confirmed entries REALLY needs
