Biography

James Andrew Arthur (born 2 March 1988) is a British singer and songwriter who won the ninth series of The X Factor in 2012. His debut single, "Impossible", was released by Syco Music after the final and debuted at number one on the UK Singles Chart in its first week of release. It has since gone on to sell over 1,289,000 copies in the UK, and 2.5 million copies worldwide. The follow-up single "You're Nobody 'til Somebody Loves You" reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart. He released his self-titled debut studio album in November 2013. The album debuted and peaked at number two on the UK Albums Chart.

After the release of his debut studio album James Arthur, he was involved in a series of controversies. This led iTunes to offer refunds for the album. The single release "Recovery" made to number 19, while the sales for the fourth single "Get Down" hardly made the top 100. Arthur parted ways with Simon Cowell's record label Syco in 2014. In 2015, he signed a new deal with Columbia Records to release his second studio album in 2016, titled Back from the Edge. Arthur was also re-signed to Syco in 2016. - Wikipedia

Still bamboozled as to how Coldplay & The Chainsmokers are so high...?

You sound in denial cause you want them to enter high next week :kink:

Absolutely LOVING how fresh the chart is right now! Safe Inside is decent enough, not my cup of tea in terms of genre but it's tolerable. Fingers crossed it can go on to become a top 20 hit, James deserves it.

I think we have a Drake free chart this week :o

Enjoying this James Arthur track a bit more than previous listens. It's alright. Takes a bit of a while to get going. I do struggle to connect with him as an artist though.
You sound in denial cause you want them to enter high next week :kink:

:heehee: That's basically it, I'm holding out for Greg to have made a mistake by thinking they're top 40 and for them to actually have missed out. Fingers crossed that my theory is right and they're at #41, but he accidentally read it as #40 or something

The Chainsmokers

The Chainsmokers are an American DJ duo consisting of Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall.

The duo had a top twenty single in several countries with their 2014 song "#Selfie", reaching number sixteen on the US Billboard Hot 100, number three in Australia, and number eleven in the United Kingdom. They released their debut EP, Bouquet, in October 2015. Their following single "Roses" reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, while "Don't Let Me Down" became their first top 5 single. "Closer", featuring vocals from Halsey, became their first number-one single on the chart. - Wikipedia

Coldplay

Coldplay are a British rock band formed in 1996 by lead vocalist Chris Martin and lead guitarist Jonny Buckland at University College London. After they formed under the name Pectoralz, Guy Berryman joined the group as a bassist and they changed their name to Starfish. Will Champion joined as a drummer, backing vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist, completing the line-up. Manager Phil Harvey is often considered an unofficial fifth member. The band renamed themselves "Coldplay" in 1998, before recording and releasing three EPs; Safety in 1998, Brothers & Sisters as a single in 1999 and The Blue Room in the same year. The latter was their first release on a major label, after signing to Parlophone.

They achieved worldwide fame with the release of the single "Yellow" in 2000, followed by their debut album released in the same year, Parachutes, which was nominated for the Mercury Prize. The band's second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002), was released to critical acclaim and won multiple awards, including NME's Album of the Year. They have also come top of the BBC Radio 2 poll of the favourite album of all time. Their next release, X&Y, the best-selling album worldwide in 2005, was met with mostly positive reviews upon its release, though some critics felt that it was inferior to its predecessor. The band's fourth studio album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (2008), was produced by Brian Eno and released again to largely positive reviews, earning several Grammy nominations and wins at the 51st Grammy Awards. On 24 October 2011, they released their fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto, which received mixed to positive reviews, topped the charts in over 34 countries, and was the UK's best-selling rock album of 2011.

The band have won a number of music awards throughout their career, including eight Brit Awards—winning Best British Group three times—five MTV Video Music Awards and seven Grammy Awards from 25 nominations. Coldplay have sold more than 80 million records worldwide. In December 2009, Rolling Stone readers voted the group the fourth-best artist of the 2000s. Coldplay have been an active supporter of various social and political causes, such as Oxfam's Make Trade Fair campaign and Amnesty International. The group have also performed at various charity projects such as Band Aid 20, Live 8, Sound Relief, Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief, The Secret Policeman's Ball, Sport Relief and the UK's Teenage Cancer Trust. - Wikipedia

Oh wow, #30 on just a day and half's sales. Amazing!!

This will be one of the biggest songs of the year.

Love it so much

Really liking this collaboration even if effectively it sounds no different to the other Chainsmokers hits. Sounds more like Roses in the breakdown.
Yeah chart positions aside this really is a brilliant song, I hope it manages to amass HUGE streams and climb to #1 next week, either way I think it'll be number one within the next three weeks. :D

Biography

Abél Makkonen Tesfaye (born 16 February 1990), known professionally as The Weeknd (pronounced "the weekend"), is a Canadian singer, songwriter and record producer. In late 2010, Tesfaye anonymously uploaded several songs to YouTube under the name "The Weeknd". He released three nine-track mixtapes throughout 2011: House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence, which were critically acclaimed. The following year, he released a compilation album Trilogy, thirty tracks consisting of the remastered mixtapes and three additional songs. It was released under Republic Records and his own label XO.

In 2013, he released his debut studio album Kiss Land, which was supported by the singles "Kiss Land" and "Live For". His second album, Beauty Behind the Madness, which became his first number one album on the US Billboard 200, included the top-three single "Earned It" and produced the number-one singles "The Hills" and "Can't Feel My Face". The songs have simultaneously held the top three spots on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart, making him the first artist in history to achieve this. The Weeknd has won two Grammy Awards and has been nominated for an Academy Award, and five Juno Awards. In September 2016, the release of the third album, Starboy was announced, along with the release of the single "Starboy" which subsequently reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. - Wikipedia

Biography

Train is an American roots rock band from San Francisco, formed in 1993. The band currently consists of Patrick Monahan (vocals), Luis Maldonado (guitar), Hector Maldonado (bass, vocals), Drew Shoals (drums), and Jerry Becker (keyboards, guitar). As of the summer of 2016, founding member Jimmy Stafford (lead guitar) is currently in the band, but has decided to take some time off from full time touring and is making select appearances with the band.

With a lineup that included original members Monahan, Stafford, Scott Underwood, Rob Hotchkiss and Charlie Colin, the band achieved mainstream success with their debut album Train, which was released in 1998 with the hit "Meet Virginia". Train's 2001 album, Drops of Jupiter contained the lead single "Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)", which won two Grammy Awards in 2002. The album was certified double platinum in the United States and Canada and remains the band's best-selling album to date.

Train's third studio album, My Private Nation, released in 2003, was certified platinum in the United States with the hit "Calling All Angels". Following the departures of Hotchkiss and Colin, the band released their fourth album, For Me, It's You in 2006, with Brandon Bush (keyboards) and Johnny Colt (bass). Despite a generally positive reception from critics, the album was commercially unsuccessful. Because of this, Train went on a two-year hiatus from recording any new music.

In late 2009, Train released the album Save Me, San Francisco, from which the album's three singles—-the RIAA 6x Platinum-certified international hit "Hey, Soul Sister", "If It's Love" and "Marry Me"—-reached high positions on the Billboard Hot 100 at numbers 3, 34, and 34, respectively. The album itself has been certified gold by both the RIAA and ARIA and has sold 954,000 units. Since 2008, Jerry Becker (guitar, keyboards, backing vocals) and Hector Maldonado (bass, guitar, percussion, backing vocals) have been touring and recording with the group around the world. In May 2012, Nikita Houston (backing vocals, percussion) and Sakai Smith (backing vocals, percussion) joined Train.

In April 2012, Train released their sixth studio album titled California 37. The first single from the album entitled "Drive By" reached number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was a Top 10 hit in the UK, their first Top 20 single since 2009. Just under two and a half years later, in September 2014, Train released their seventh studio album titled Bulletproof Picasso. It received positive reviews from critics. However, similar to the band's fourth album For Me, It's You, it failed commercially. Despite peaking high on charts, it failed to generate any hit singles and also failed to receive an RIAA certification. It was also the band's first album without drummer and founding member Scott Underwood, who departed the band prior to recording the album. Following his departure, Drew Shoals became the new drummer of the band.

Shortly after the band's tour for Bulletproof Picasso, Train released a Christmas album exclusively on Amazon Music titled Christmas in Tahoe in November 2015. The album features 15 songs, which included covers of classic holiday hits and three original songs. In June 2016, Train released another new album titled Train Does Led Zeppelin II, which features nine songs, all of them being a cover of a hit song by the famous rock band Led Zeppelin.

The band's tenth studio album, titled A Girl, a Bottle, a Boat, was released in January 2017.

Since their debut in the music industry, Train has sold over 10 million albums and 30 million tracks worldwide. - Wikipedia

Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu (born 7 November 1988), better known by his stage name Tinie Tempah, is an English rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer. He has been signed to Parlophone Records since 2009, a subsidiary of Warner Music Group. He created his own record and fashion label Disturbing London Records in 2007 along with his cousin, Dumi Oburota.

After releasing a couple of mixtapes, he released his long-awaited debut album, Disc-Overy, in October 2010. Preceded by two British number-one singles, "Pass Out" and "Written in the Stars", the album charted at number one and was certified Platinum the next year. In February 2011, he won two Brit Awards for Best British Breakthrough Act and Best British Single.

In November 2013, he released his second album, entitled Demonstration. Preceded by top ten singles "Trampoline" and "Children of the Sun", the album charted at number three and was certified gold by the BPI the next year. In June 2015, he released "Not Letting Go", the first single from his upcoming third album Youth. This gave Tempah his sixth UK number one, the most by any rap artist. - Wikipedia

I don't want to unleash the party poppers too early, but do we have a Drake-free Top 40?

If we do, don't celebrate too soon as "One Dance" could re-enter next week thanks to his Birmingham concert

Why on earth have they skipped Train? They should really base the songs they play on which ones are the most current and fresh, instead of the stupid 'climbers' rule.

Text From Your Ex is still pretty decent, there's something about it that I just can't really get on with, though, I just can't get into Tinies tracks these days.
