Corrie bosses are to stage a disaster so massive it will rival the tram crash which rocked Weatherfield in 2010 – leaving one regular dead.

The grand-scale stunt will see a return of the sinkhole that appeared in the Platts' back garden a year ago.

As she celebrated Corrie being named best soap at the National TV Awards, actress Sally Carman, who plays Abi Franklin, declared: “It's going to be so big it will rival the tram crash. You're going to have your socks blown off.”

Show boss Iain Macleod said the move to stage a major “cinematic” disaster was a way of celebrating the end of the pandemic.

“It's going to be really huge - there's loads of emotion, there's loads of big spectacle – it's going to be cinematic.“

It's a statement of intent that we wanted, as a show, to put out there - to make something we couldn't possibly have made in the past 18 months because the pandemic wouldn't allow it.

He said the sinkhole's return would leave one character dead. “When you do a story of a certain scale and at a certain level of spectacle the viewers expect there to be significant aftermath to it and significant outcomes.

"So yes, I can confirm that Chekhov's sinkhole will result in a death.”

Celebrating the soap's hat-trick of gongs at the National TV Awards, he said: “Our team are the hardest working, most talented, most dedicated people in the business.

Just knew that Corey would be found not guilty and Kelly would go down. It's a soap though so hopefully the truth will out in the not too distant future?
Well Corey cant be trialed for the murder but I assume the throw back scenes were the clue to him becoming HIV positive which could help free Kelly.
Alina is 100% pregnant

Yes she's lied to Ty. May not be his though. Cue her return one day with baby in tow......

She will probably rock up the day of Fiz and Tyrones wedding :o

Her present: His baby. :o

Watched Norris' funeral last night, some bits were good. Them all still standing and sitting for far apart sends me under, surely this won't need to be the situation for much longer.
I didn't enjoy the funeral scenes all that much it was slightly funny but more embarrassing.

How did Natasha get into Nick and Leannes?
Horror Nation Street was largely enjoyable but I felt there was at times too much happening with storylines outshadowing other storylines.

Natasha been killed off was far too obvious. Saw that coming a mile off.

Pity they did absolutely nothing with her since she first returned, it was clear even then she was destined to die having served her purpose of giving Nick a long lost child. They could have brought in some woman he had a relationship off-screen in Canada for that and left Natasha's absolutely glorious 2010 exit as her ending but oh no.

The Christmas episodes are a real treat. Exactly the right tone for the current time rather than usual Christmas doom and gloom.

Kelly has so much potential! I really like her at the moment and feel her redemption arc feels genuine she’s provided some powerful scenes lately and she’s played so well I hope we see more of her through 2022!

Eileen’s coffin as well was one of the most genuinely funny scenes Corries done in ages as well.
