Kelly has so much potential! I really like her at the moment and feel her redemption arc feels genuine she’s provided some powerful scenes lately and she’s played so well I hope we see more of her through 2022!

Eileen’s coffin as well was one of the most genuinely funny scenes Corries done in ages as well.

Still doesn't detract from a massive cull of dreadful characters being needed.

This Enma storyline is awful.

Kelly has huge potential, you just want to reach out to her and give her the help she needs.

I like the fact they've made Abi's reaction to her moving into the street seem really and something you can empathise with rather than hateful for no reason, it's rare these days to get soap storylines where both characters views are understandable.

On which note, is anyone sick of Fiz lauding it over Ty with her new fella?

Emma was a huge breath of fresh air when she was first introduced but this storyline at the moment isn't great.

And it's another Where the F... is X? moment with Fiona apparently not giving two shits that she was getting married but such is soap lmao.

So the latest wide idea is to make David and Daniel the new Ken and Mike. Whilst it'll be good to have some actual conflict that all seems a bit daft.

I don't feel Fix is lauding it all, you can still see how hurt she is from what Tyrone done. I think Phil is there to con her and lead her and Tyrone back together.

Some ridiculous storylines being trailed in the papers the past few days. Nick trying to have Roy murdered and Adam's dementia that means he's conveniently forgotten his ex who randomly turns up.

Honestly at this point If be down for the more believable alien invasion.

ITV showing Swindon v Man City in the FA Cup tonight means no Coronation Street leaving fans furious according to The Mirror but could they not compromise whenever this situation arises? They could either

Keep football on ITV, move Corrie to ITV2

Keep Corrie on ITV, move football to ITV4

Premiere the delayed Corrie on ITV Hub on the night it would have been on

Amazed ITV have never thought of these options well into the age of multi channel and streaming.

They could just reduce the number of episodes of the soaps so they could easily be shown another night?

What's wrong with these so called fans? They've had their 6 episodes this week as usual as there was an hour on Tuesday. I almost missed it!

It was already shown another night, they had an hour long episode on Tuesday to make up for it.

So just the usual soap fan whinging. With viewing figures as low as they are fans should just be glad they show isn't being wound down.

The viewing figures aren't a massive concern when literally everything is lower than it used to be. EastEnders is the one that's really plummeted

But they have lost some of their most enduring characters because they don't like the direction of the show in recent years. Bev Callard cited the lack of iamspamspamamisink drama and high level of sensationalism as one of the main reasons she won't return ever. Other stalwarts have left for similar reasons, and a lot of the newer actors have no idea how to act community scenes that used to be the shows backbone. The hard hitting storylines aren't as hard hitting cos they're constantly happen.and we don't have time to grow to like the charachters. A smaller cast, less episodes and simpler storylines are the answer

Beverley Callard's entitled to her opinions but I'm struggling to see any other examples. Richard Hawley is the next closest to a recent "enduring" character to have left recently and he wasn't critical of the show, nor was Harry Visinoni who left the show in one of the most acclaimed storylines I've ever seen across any of the soaps. The hard-hitting storylines are there and the Nina/Seb storyline proved they're just as powerful as they always were, if not more so - see also Yasmeen and Geoff. For someone more "enduring" than those, there's Malcolm Hebden who retired for health reasons, Kym Marsh who chose to move on but hasn't shut the door on Corrie for good, and I guess before that, someone like Brooke Vincent? She went on maternity leave and never came back but is open to it one day. In summary, I'm struggling to see where you're coming from as there are no recent examples of this other than Bev Callard.

In my personal opinion, Corrie strikes the balance between kitchen sink realism and impactful, hard-hitting storylines perfectly. There's nowhere else that could splice scenes of Tyrone and Phill bickering among scenes of Nina's panic attacks or Kelly's homelessness. Corrie's the one soap where, if you miss an episode, you're guaranteed to be out of the loop. 6 episodes a week allows for storylines to develop at a fast pace, but also with enough time for development and build-up. You're welcome to disagree with me of course, but the ratings aren't showing any sort of disinterest when they're down across the board (as has been explained re. Doctor Who) and Corrie has one of the strongest enduring casts of them all so I'm not really sure where you're coming from.

Tyrone and Phil's bickerimg I'd exactly the kind of rubbish that needs to go. The seen with the inflatables was nonsensical. What would have once been two macho love rivals getting at eachother and perhaps even having a fight or bitching to their own circle of friends about the other is now presented as a comic farce. Tyrone and Phil fighting over Fizz is certainly no Mike and Ken fighting over Dierdre.

All the charachters are being morphed to fit the plots instead of the old days where the plots were morphed to fit the charachters. The show needs a root and branch overhaul and if it doesn't sort itself soon I'll be out.

It was supposed to be farce - it was humour for the Christmas episode! The show knows when it can be fun and when it can be serious and I just pointed out an example of the former. I don't think those scenes were supposed to be anything more than they were.

I respectfully disagree with your point - the hate crime attack was literally morphed around Nina, an existing character, and that was the biggest storyline of 2021. Similarly, Yasmeen's abuse at the hands of Geoff was built up entirely through their characters and the plot crept in to raise Geoff's abuse, it was a natural progression.

I'd be quite happy if the football was on ITV4.
