Great to see Paramore in at 99 already. Hopefully will be added to the new music friday playlist and other playlists.

Is Spotify and streaming in general really corrupt and a bit of a joke, labels paying to be on certain playlists and how high to be up and Spotify themselves deciding what songs should be on playlists. This whole streaming is a joke when you think about it. Talk about manipulation. Compared to the 'sales' era this streaming is a joke.
Still no Sigrid? :(

Sadly not :( I was expecting that to be on by now, I assume they're waiting for it to hit top 200 on its own before they add it (that's what they do with most songs)

Because iTunes totally haven't been doing the same thing for years with the Hot Songs playlist ;)

^there's a difference though, between advertising (a person will still buy a song only if they like it) and putting into playlists with passive listening.

But the point still stands that if the user wants to skip the song they can, they have the same freedom to consume whatever they want on Spotify - it's not out of their control and the idea of being able to choose what you stream is essentially the same as choosing what you buy.

Seriously, the majority of streams come from people leaving a playlist running passively (like a radio station), and if you listen past 30 seconds (like I myself have actually done umpteen times) it counts. It is horribly manipulated in a way that's so much worse than ever before. It's such a shame.

Wait wtf? Surely a stream of a song is listening to it in full?? Now that's absolutely RIDICULOUS.

EDIT - something the OCC definitely need to try and change in conjunction with Spotify as it makes the charts horribly innacurate

well I think we just have to accept that's the way it is.

if the majority of people are passively listening to playlists then that's what will be reflected in the official chart. the trends are showing that people are moving away from downloads and towards streaming. I wish spotify curated playlists didn't have such an influence but it is so much easier for casual listeners to stick on a playlist of inoffensive popular music than for them to seek out their favourite songs like us on buzzjack do, therefore this will always be the case.

and it counts past 30 seconds because that's how streaming services count it and the OCC only have that data to go by for their own compilation. nothing the OCC can do about that as Spotify are more powerful and besides I think the CEO of the OCC also works for Spotify?

Also there's a difference between 'skipping it when you don't like it' or 'oh, it's inoffensive so I won't bother skipping'.

There is no way to skip the song unless you are premium user

Free users can not skip song

Spotify desperately need money to keep afloat as they keep losing money so they take money from everywhere like Ryanair including taking money under the table from certain record companies

BTW why we only hear about 'Spotify Spotify, Spotify, Iunes ITunes' etc

There are plenty of other services (TuneIn, Deezer snd many others)

#Do they pay this forum and OCC for being 'exclusive'?

Free users can skip, but only a certain number of times per day.

Spotify is by FAR the biggest streaming platform, the others contribute a much smaller proportion so don't need their own discussion topics. iTunes is the same for the download market.

Spotify and iTunes make up a massive share of the market and are the most accurate representations of musical popularity that will be reflected in the charts. Also they're the only services that give daily data and statistics making them actually worth analysing.

I'm on Apple Music and make my own playlists from songs I like, don't understand the point of listening to random playlists, may as well listen to the radio!

Spotify has less ads than commercial radio (even the free version) plus you have the option to skip a song you don't like, no surprise really that some would rather listen to Spotify playlists passively instead of the radio.

Yeh but I'm confused why people don't pick songs for their own playlist like I do on Apple?!
