So... are we all expecting Harry to crash iTunes tomorrow morning :heehee:

It'll shoot to number 1 on iTunes like the others did (even Niall did, didn't he? Or was that number 2?)

It'll have the staying power if it's as credible as "Pillowtalk" as opposed to "Just Hold On".

So... are we all expecting Harry to crash iTunes tomorrow morning :heehee:

I predict he'll put the #2 down to 0.3000 on iTunes and amass around 750,000 streams on Spotify - so not quite :heehee:

I actually posted that in the wrong topic, I realised afterwards, just couldn't be assed to delete it and post it in the iTunes topic. -_-

Well it'll get a stream from me cos I will certainly be curious in the morning!

But then I am curious about most major new releases :P

So what happens to capping if you say, played the main version 10 times, and then played a remix 10 times (say, Human by Rag'n'Bone Man and the Rudimental Remix)?
Remixes usually don't have their plays combined with the original on Spotify (generally the ones that do are those with relatively minor changes, like Maroon 5's 'Sugar' feat. Nicki Minaj or Troye Sivan's 'WILD' feat. Alessia Cara), so I expect they'd be considered separate songs on Spotify's end. For the OCC's data that combines those remixes, I have no idea though.

I think there's an app/website out there that randomly selects songs on Spotify with 0 plays. Or is it YouTube. I don't remember.
This is the site: http://forgotify.com/

Though there's no way to be sure if they really have zero plays, as the only thing to go by is Spotify's play counts that show '< 1,000' for anything that low.

One way to find out for sure could be to find a completely obscure song and spam play it 2,000 times or whatever, and see what happens to its total play count.

Didn't we already do this with Lisa Scott-Lee?

Our spam playing took it from 44,438 to 44,799 in one day and I doubt there were 36 of us spamming it!

I'm pretty sure there would have been, wasn't that roughly the amount of people that took it into the iTunes chart? Also, the people doing it would have been aware of the 10 a day cap.

Didn't realise that! Guess that's pretty much our answer then. Unless Aly is right and there were in fact 36 of us playing it 10 times that day!

If that's correct then that would be a nice little loophole where we could 'manipulate' the chart with spam streaming (sort of), by helping songs on their way into the top 50 and the inevitable boost that follows! Though really this would only work if they're very close to it in the first place, like No More Sad Songs is.

Tbh, even if that's not the case, and the cap applies, the 10 a day per person limit is quite generous imo, it would have only taken 15 Buzzjack Little Mix stans to play it 10 times yesterday and it would be top 50 now.

Oddly Spotify have chosen to put an album track by The Chainsmokers at the top of their New Music Friday playlist... although Harry Styles will obviously take its place when he releases.

New Music Friday [07/04/17]

RELEVANT-

01 The Chainsmokers - Honest

02 Tinie Tempah - Find Me (feat. Jake Bugg)

03 JP Cooper - Passport Home

10 Halsey - Now Or Never

15 Gorillaz - Let Me Out (feat. Mavis Staples & Pusha T)

20 Oh Wonder - Lifetimes

24 Cedric Gervais & Digital Farm Animals - Lifetime (feat. Dallas Austin)

37 Blaenavon - Lonely Side

43 Desiigner - Up

* these positions will shift down when Martin Garrix, Kendrick Lamar and Harry Styles release new material later in the day. I will update this list in the afternoon when all releases have happened.

But it's the occ that has to add the cap

Not Spotify

It's the occ that makes the rule

So makes sense that the Spotify charts are uncapped

New Music Friday is still showing last week's releases for me. :(

Just to add my thoughts on whether there's a cap on Spotify's total streams, I would assume not. Don't forget Spotify existed before it got incorporated into the charts and the cap in regards to the charts existed. I doubt they would have altered this since.

Please No More Sad Songs finally entered the top 50. Should make some decent streaming gains this week then!
Spotify has too big influence on charts

Thanks for the contribution, I'm sure as a result of this the OCC will void any contribution Spotify has towards the charts and make it entirely based on other streaming services that make up a fraction of Spotifys market share :P

Spotify has too big influence on charts

It at least makes for a change from the days where iTunes had too big of an influence on the chart (remember when the iTunes chart was basically the official chart? feels so long ago now)
