Her Oscar nominations have been for:

Best Supporting Actress (2009) - Doubt (as Mrs. Miller)

Best Leading Actress (2012) - The Help (as Aibileen Clark)

Best Supporting Actress (2017) - Fences (as Rose Maxson)

How would you rank these performances? Do you think she deserved to win in any of these years? Do you think she deserved nominations for any other performances?

Here are some other awards nominations she has received:

GOLDEN GLOBES

Doubt (Best Supporting Actress)

The Help (Best Leading Actress)

Fences (Best Supporting Actress)

BAFTAS

The Help (Best Leading Actress)

Fences (Best Supporting Actress)

Unpopular opinion but i don't think Viola is as good as people make her out to be :kink: great actress of course but not amazing.

I have no memory of her in Doubt at all, its all about Meryl, Phillip and Amy for me. She was outdone by Octavia and Jessica in The Help too.

Not sene Fences so maybe that's why I am not getting the hype.

Loved her in Lila & Eva, her best film for me. Loved her and J-lo together.

Loling at Viola's head getting increasingly larger in the graphic I made, wasn't even intentional!!

She's pretty great even in small roles, recently seen her in Far From Heaven and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close and she shines in both despite hardly any screen time. I know she's only just won her first but I wouldn't be surprised to win another Oscar in years to come.

Anyway, for me:

1 Fences (scene-stealer and amazing snot acting  so much emotion to the role and completely outshines Denzel!)

2 The Help (not my favourite cast performance in the film but she was solid, I was happy with Meryl's win that year tho)

3 Doubt (I agree with Grant that she is outshone by the others but mainly due to lack of screentime, she has like one scene but it is SO well acted so not shocked to see her get the nomination for it, just wish there was more ! :()
