I am fluent in Spanish, and can say the version without the Gringo Pop Brat is much better, but who is buying or listening to this en masse? They won't understand it, can't sing along, and the beat and noise is veeery discordant. It is hardly the pinnacle of reggaeton.

I get what you mean.

I do like Despacito (the non Bieber version), but as an Italian, these songs are EVERYWHERE in Italy. And there are millions of songs which are better. I do wish those types of songs did better here.

It is great to see songs like this break through though however it would be great to see the likes of:

Shakira feat Maluma- Chantaje

Ricky Martin- Vente Pa' Ca/La Morditita

Even the likes of the Belgian Stromae didn't make it big here bar one song.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but not a lot of Latino songs make it big here. They do in the US and Europe, but it's very rare for the UK. In fact, bar Daddy Yankee's Gasolina, Shakira's La Tortura, Danza Kuduro and Loca People from Sak Noel, what else has there been?

I was wondering why loads of Spanish songs are doing well in Italy particularly, seems really random  Like there was that Alvaro Soler song Sofia that was pretty much the biggest hit of last year there I believe (but that's an absolute TUNE tbf *.*).

Flopping hard

Doing okay on streaming though!

I really am shocked at the major artists that were getting huge number ones are totally flopping.

It's such a strange time for music and iTunes sales are really starting to decrease more than ever.

Something tells me we're going to be seeing numerous no 1's from the same artists that continuously manage to get high streaming numbers.

The only artists that are capable of that are Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber - apart from that we'll hopefully have some variety in years to come :P

I don't think Ed will have another #1 this year now, as most of his tracks have been in the singles chart, unless he drops a new track which is not featured on his album. We probably have to wait another 2 years now for him to get a #1 single

We won't get new solo music from him til 2019 or 2020 probably, but I wouldn't write off there being a Rudimental collab or something beforehand.

Ed could easily remix one of his album tracks and get another number one that way, or feature on a rapper/dance producer's hit. I don't think this is the last we've seen of him in 2017.
Despacito really going further away on ITunes and not that far on Spotify I think Bieber can replace himself this week.
Despacito is definitely the better Bieber feature of the two so I'm hoping that bags the #1 this week. I'm loving the quick turnaround of #1's (even if I'm not loving many of them).
Apparently the Big Top 40 have Niall on the show later to reveal where he charts but he has just fallen out the Top 10 :heehee: Going to be pretty awkward!
With 35% lead and getting bigger and bigger Despacito will be number 1 this week for sure.
Whatever happened to that Martin Garrix + Ed Sheeran track? It always seemed like such a foolish move not to release that (unless there were some kind of politics involved).
I think we'll come full circle in the near future & have fairly regular #1s again. You only need about 20K raw "sales" to get to #1 & just let streaming do the rest of the work. As long there's a reasonably big name artist releasing a hit every week or so the #1 debuts will become commonplace again.
