Does anyone have the feeling that recent events in the UK might tip the election in Jeremy Corbyn's favour? I think it will be highly embarrassing for Theresa May if she loses this election since it was her idea in the first place and she is refusing to cancel it.

I believe that they would, had the leader of the Labour Party been anyone other than Jeremy Corbyn.

Except we had a leader other than Jeremy Corbyn at the last election, up against a similarly inept Tory campaign, and that leader still failed miserably.

No matter how bad your opposition is, you need to offer something positive yourself if you want people to vote for you, something Corbyn's opponents within Labour still haven't grasped.

I was speaking more of issues surrounding national security, something that wasn't as high on the 2015 campaign's agenda, but the events of the last few weeks have pushed it to the top of 2017's. Jeremy Corbyn (and his frontbench team) aren't going to inspire as much confidence in Labour over the issue than other potential Labour leaders.

May can hardly be held responsible for acts of terrorism!

Had the leader been anyone else, she wouldn't have called an early election.

Tbf she was home secretary until she was PM it kind of was her job lmao (granted these things happened after that but it's still her party in power not doing whatever drastic change she's calling for).

Why do my posts keep going missing??

Everything I said about Theresa May and her actions regarding Libya is factually correct.

Hello everyone.

I've decided to close the original General Election topic as firstly it was getting quick large, but secondly I was not happy with the tone of the discussion that we were heading in. So going forward, when discussing the General Election, it would please me immensely if everyone could follow these guidelines -

1) No personal attacks on fellow members of Buzzjack.

I very much encourage the rigorous debates of the various political POSITIONS of those of us on Buzzjack within the News & Politics forum, but please do not resort to name calling, questioning the intelligence of other members of the forum, and various other ad hominem attacks on each other. It's great that there are people from different political perspectives debating the issues in this forum, as I believe it is important to a healthy society to both listen to opposing thoughts, as well as to challenge them, but play the ball, not the player. It's bringing the tone down of this forum, and it really is not very nice.

2) Please don't comment unless you have something substantial, interesting, or thought provoking to say.

I'm very proud of the substantive discussions we can have on this board around the issues, but please don't just come into a topic, say a few slogans, or just repeat the same thing over and over. It gets annoying.

and finally,

3) Please, NO NAZIS!

If we can avoid sliding into Godwin territory, I would much appreciate it. There's almost definitely no need to talk about the Nazis. Unless you're Ken Livingstone. Then you definitely shouldn't talk about the Nazis.

Please consider following these guidelines. Because if you don't I will be mildly irritated. And you wouldn't like me when I'm mildly irritated.

Well can you repost it but without the references to Vidcapper then so I don't have to retype it?

Sounds like it was just as well I didn't see the original...

That's why I put his name in quotes!

However real civil servants in his sort of position are equally immune to losing their jobs.

What about the other 99% of civil servants?

The 2015 Tory campaign was outstanding compared to this one. For starters, the manifesto then was deliberately designed to be so innocuous that no one would talk about it and Cameron could instead focus on his strengths.

You mean lying, vacuity and slagging off his opponents?

You say potato!

The Tory campaign last election was even MORE divisive, using Scotland, which they had no hope in, as a bogeyman as it is OH SO WRONG for Parliament to be influenced, even in a minority government, by Scotland. Meanwhile, it is perfectly RIGHT and NATURAL that Scotland is dominated by Tory governments it does not vote for.

Irrespective of the 2015 manifesto, the Tories had done many things in government the previous 5 years that had royally pissed people off. And, for all that May's ratings have fallen through this campaign, they are still on a par with where Cameron's were on the eve of the election. Yet despite that, and despite Labour having a "Not Jeremy Corbyn" leader and running a "centrist" risk-averse strategy, they still failed miserably, because at the end of the day an opposition needs to give people something to vote for, and a reason to make the upheaval of change worthwhile, even if the incumbent government is woeful.

Absolutely, Danny!!

His momentum has been Sanders levels. In Gateshead alone more than 15,000 turned out to hear him speak and could not fit! They were running up a hill trying to get in! It's very Kate Bush-esque politics rn tbh.

And, Labour has completely divided itself now with its left policies AWAY from New Labour. Furthermore, even the TORIES, who are now basically UKIP in Blue, have had to make concessions to left-wing policies and talk about more social care. Corbyn has succeeded.
