I bet Calvin must hate Ed by now

I hate Ed.... I just don't get it

What's with the low number of weeks on ABBA Gold ad Queen Greatest Hits etc??

Not that bad considering they're independent and haven't released an album in 15 years and haven't had a top 40 album since 2000! I'd say they're doing good all things considered, the music business is just too ageist for women over 40 to be successful :(

It's how many weeks it's spent on the midweek chart since it was started to be published officially a few years ago

And one of them is dead. I think that's probably significant.

Where is Martin Jensen in the midweeks with the new rules unapplied? Must be interesting to see that. And also Ed? Thank you!

Martin 30+7

Ed (Shape, I assume you mean) 10+3

Shape is at 10+3? It was 24 in Monday's mids, how has it climbed back up 11 places in one day?

Thank you, yep, I meant Shape! So as absurd as it is 'Solo Dance' has benefitted of the new rules as of now.

just realised Ed also beat Calvin when he released his last album Motion in 2014, and similarly Ed's album had been released months ago :)

9 11 2014

1 2 x Ed Sheeran

2 E Motion Calvin Harris

Motion's 1st week sales were much higher though... from wiki:

Motion debuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart, with 37,325 copies sold in its first week.

Motion was released in Q4 so it's not that surprising that it got bigger first-week sales. There's also the small thing of Calvin changing his style which probably has alienated some of his fanbase.
Despite some big names on the album, this has always felt like a "Low key" release for Calvin, like a home pet project, of putting out some vibes. Feels is shaping up to be a really big hit though, and Slide did well, so it looks like it's still another successful era for him.
"Feels" becoming big is also great for Katy and Pharrell who were starting to look like they were entering dud eras.
These new rules are an absolute joke, discriminating against half the chart by basically ignoring half their sales because they've been popular for more than 10 weeks. It won't be long before Despacito falls into the same trap while potentially still being the most streamed and downloaded track.
they had to come up with something cos otherwise streams count forever unlike CD sales, downloads etc

Well that goes without saying

Exactly! Who wants to see Despacito at the top for weeks and weeks! It's totally unfair on new and emerging artists who either don't have the funds to get high placements on streaming nor the fanbase yet.

I totally agree with how they've done it, it doesn't affect tracks that are still increasing just ones that are slowly moving place by place down the chart.

"Feels" becoming big is also great for Katy and Pharrell who were starting to look like they were entering dud eras.

They are only featured artists on the track and we don't know if it will be "big" per se. It may not ever go top5 and could drop next week.
