Okay after catching up I'm quite happy with the top ten. Only difference I'd have is putting 'The Promise' in the top ten instead of 'Love Machine' (higher up tho).

My ideal top 10;

First of all SOTU is good but vastly overrated. I'd have it at #11.

10. Can't Speak French

09. No Good Advice

08. Something Kinda Oooh

07. The Loving Kind

06. Call The Shots

05. Sexy! No! No! no

04. The Promise

03. The Show

02. Untouchable

08. The Loving Kind // 8.21

'The Loving Kind' finally drops out in a very respectable 8th place. The original lead single from 'Out Of Control', before the girls pushed for 'The Promise' instead, was co-written by the Pet Shop Boys and was their 20th consecutive top 10 single, although only just, peaking at #10 on the week of the physical CD release. It doesn't seem to be well liked by Girls Aloud, with them snubbing it on their Ten: The Hits tour, as well as Nicola championing it to be named the worst song of the year at the Popjustice £20 Music Prize back in 2009. However, it's beaten off a lot of bigger hits in this countdown, so it's clearly a case of it being a fan favourite.

The Loving Kind is weak for me. I never really thought much of it.

How it beat 'The Show' on here I'll never know.

The aforementioned snub infuriates me still. Imagine Sarah's could be bum note on tour in front of 20,000 people!!!

OK Jonjo i've disagreed with practically everything you've said in this thread but having 'Untouchable' as your #1 has made me forgive you completely  So glad it's still in this.. *is out next*.

Also 'Can't Speak French' is too high js ~

The Loving Kind is sublime, would be firmly in my top 10! Glad it's made it here.

The Loving Kind Yas :cheer:

I am weeping for Jonjo's and 4th Harmonizer's taste for both crimes against great songs :kink:

I actually quite like it tbh. I just don't understand the "universal" praise it gets on here, and it shouldn't be above GA classics like 'Love Machine' and 'The Promise'...

07. Something Kinda Ooooh // 8.21 (More 11s)

Something Kinda Ooooh, which Wikipedia describes as "an uptempo alternative dance song" is my personal favourite GA single but not my favourite video! In 7th place?! Hate y'all. x

After three studio album releases, it was time for Girls Aloud to release the obligatory Greatest Hits compilation. Their previous album Chemistry had seen diminishing returns for the girls, with 3 of its 4 singles failing to make the Top 5 (for a popular act back in the days of physicals, this was seen to be an underachievement) & the album itself peaking at the frustrating position of #11. Did this mean that the end of Girls Aloud was on the horizon? Although this obviously proved not to be the case, it was a bit of a concern at the time!

Something Kinda Ooooh gave the girl group their biggest hit since I'll Stand By You. It notably entered the UK singles chart Top 5 (at #5) on the strength of download sales alone - making them the first British act to achieve this feat! With the release of physicals the following week, the song moved up to #3 which would be its peak. Even greater success was around the corner - The Sound of Girls Aloud: The Greatest Hits entered the UK albums chart at #1, and went on to sell over 1.2 million copies.

I still find this to be a really exhilarating listen, and I can't believe it's almost 11 years since its release!

P.S. We need an intervention - these YouTube default pics need to be changed!

YES JOSEPH!!! :cheer:

SKO is a classic but yes these thumbnails are awful

SKO is a bop! It's around the right place here I'd say.
It's so easy to change a thumbnail... why? 👀

'Something Kinda Ooooh' never fails to deliver  WHAT A POP BANGER. It was my favourite of theirs from first listen! I think it keeps interchanging with 'Untouchable' in my affections, but that's just mainly down to what kinda mood I'm in at the time

I'm kind of surprised to see it as low as this though? I always thought it was generally favoured on here? :o At least it doesn't seem to have it's vocal haters like 'Something Poo' or 'The Promise' do (unless I've somehow missed them? If I have will someone show these people the light and advise them to go and see Britney please? Thnx xx)

Something Kinda Ooh is not a massive favourite would probs be outside my top 10 around 13-14 but I really do like it. Can see it's appeal

I like The Loving Kind a lot! I don't think it's one of their outstanding moments though, and I don't agree with the "Top 10 best Girls Aloud" status it holds here. The "I'd do anything..." section is by far the best part of it, and the rest of the song meanders along as a pleasant listen.

It did shock me at the time that Nicola openly expressed her hate for it, to the point of championing it to win worst song of the year! I guess there's no accounting for taste though, given her obvious love for Beautiful Cause You Love Me. ;o

06. Untouchable // 8.58

Who'd have expected Girls Aloud to release a sublime pop song over 6 minutes in length? Not me for sure, but in 2008, they did just that. Then they went the whole hog and released it as the third single from Out of Control the following year. Of course, it had to be edited down in length, although instead of using a simple shorter version, they added a vocoder effect to the vocals which divides fans.

Untouchable received just one performance on TV, on Dancing On Ice - their weakest promotional effort. With that in mind I guess it's no surprise it broke their consecutive run of 20 top 10 hits, although it was incredibly cruel for it to only make #11. It's become a huge fan favourite over the years and it's not difficult to see why, with sublime vocals and superb lyrics, including my personal favourite line - "like beautiful robots dancing alone"

A truly magical song. I think it's rivalling Call The Shots as my all time favourite and could well overtake it. Everything about it is incredible. I adore the lyrics and how full of hope they are.

A SONG

Untouchable is an absolute masterpiece. The radio edit's vocal tuning is somewhat jarring but they did okay with a shorter edit. It doesn't take away from the huge chorus. The lyrics are some of Girls Aloud's best ever. A moment.

Agreed with Bal and Joe pretty much.

'Untouchable' is the first GA song to come and challenge SKO as my fave GA track!
