December 1, 20177 yr "The King, the Widow, and Rick" received mixed reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 33% with an average rating of 5.82 out of 10, based on 24 reviews. So far, this is the lowest rating in the show's history. The site's consensus reads: "The King, The Widow, and Rick" spreads itself between too many storylines, and thereby doesn't accomplish much in the process. Very surprised that it's been so poorly received. :o From my perspective it was certainly better than Episode 2/3 of this season.
December 1, 20177 yr So according to RT, that episode was the worst in the shows history? Get the f*** outta here
December 2, 20177 yr Far from the worst. Although it wasn't great, it was ok but I think people are starting to see the shows flaws more often rather than being distracted or ignoring them
December 2, 20177 yr Far from the worst. Although it wasn't great, it was ok but I think people are starting to see the shows flaws more often rather than being distracted or ignoring them It's become cool to hate on the show now. Look it's not great (highly average is best mentioned) and will never match up to Seasons 4-5 when it was at its peak. But they're following pretty average source material and have a large bloated cast. I guess I struggle to see where the show is going. For me I much prefer the show when they're on the road as there is far more danger and it's more fun.
December 3, 20177 yr It's become cool to hate on the show now. The thing is that the show was conceived in part as 'a zombie movie that never ends' which sounds great in principle but unless you're able to constantly change the dynamic, for example, through changes in the cast or new and inventive plots we haven't seen or imagined before, then it will always ultimately become repetitive or tiresome. This is the pitfall TWD slowly stumbled into and has reacted against by trying to go in an all action direction for this season's beginning to the detriment of audience engagement. TWD could be really good still but the quality control isn't there and you're right about them sticking too close to source material that isn't great for tv. As an aside I caught an episode of season 1 whilst channel hopping the other day and the difference in quality was startling. Season 1 is genuinely brilliant.
December 5, 20177 yr Author Was another good episode that, leading nicely up to the mid season finale - and from the sneak peak the Saviors survive!!
December 11, 20177 yr Best episode since about season 6 for me. I really feel like it's slowly finding it's groove again. Season 7 was pretty uneventful for the most part, but I feel S8 has been stronger. It's flawed, but honestly which show isn't? People are being over dramatic in their hate for the show nowadays I feel and it feels like they just hate on it for the sake of hating on it. Meh. Whatever. I guess I'll just have to revel in the fact that I can still enjoy it :D (although a mass killing of the main characters soon please. There's too manyyyyy!!)
December 12, 20177 yr I suppose its all about opinions but I thought it was just awful. Aimless, rudderless and clueless. I'll admit - the twist at the end was unexpected but for me - it was also totally needless and unwelcome.
December 13, 20177 yr I still love this show and had more problems with previous seasons than I do with the latest - I like the quantity and quality of characters and the dynamics changing. I felt a little redeemed in that I asked my partner a couple episodes ago "So... Carl..." and it turned out to be true but I still didn't think it would because of his place in the comics - it was one of those untouchable characters, I thought. I enjoy that readers of the comics can still be surprised and that it follows it's own canon. I'm very much looking forward to its return in February!!
December 14, 20177 yr For what it's worth I thought it was ok but nothing special. However, the ending, given the amount of hype, with even spoilthedead refusing to post leaks for the finale as it was 'too big', turned out to be a major let down. Hype said Daryl or Rick. Carl could be the smarter choice, short term but it felt underwhelming.
February 27, 20187 yr Author Such a sad start to the second half of the season! Got a feeling Lennie James' character is going mad and that may be why he goes off by himself and ends up in Fear the Walking Dead!
March 5, 20187 yr Author That episode of walking dead was amazing better than the series opener - Simon is a dead man walking now!!
March 6, 20187 yr 8B off to a really good start! Episode 10 was very good. I'm intrigued to see what happens with Simon now the tension has been ramped up with him and Negan and where the hell Jadis goes now! Edited March 6, 20187 yr by _jase
March 6, 20187 yr Yeh Simon will either overthrown Negan or is a dead man walking!! He's a definite goner. They're trying to sympathise Negan so that he will join the main group when everything eventually ends. For what it's worth the past two episodes have been the best for a couple of years.
March 9, 20187 yr Author Indeed enjoyable and for the first time in 2 series I can't wait for the next episode!
March 19, 20187 yr Yup, 8B is brilliant so far! Jayne Atkinson  I wonder if it's the last we'll see of Georgie until season 9?
