Quotes from a new podcast 'Smartless' that is only available to subscribers at the moment -

Vocal production is her favourite thing in the world:

“my number one favorite thing to do, even more so than singing is, is vocal production and comping vocals, stacking and vocal arranging. I'm like a huge nerd in that way […]love being able to vocal produce, literally, that is just a dream. if someone calls me and is like, ‘I want you to record me’, l absolutely have done it. will do it. love it. will take that call any day.”

On protecting herself from scrutiny and fame:

“I just kind of had to disconnect for a little, because there was always a part of me that wanted to explain, or come talk to the world and come talk to everyone about what the truth is, or explain things and overshare for the sake of being understood by a humongous thing of strangers. it's just a strange thing to feel at such a young age and what is the boundary there, what's a healthy relationship to it, how do you protect yourself for the sake of being able to continue.”
On finding a balance and the Wicked press tour:

“when I was younger during my first few years as a pop star I really struggled with boundaries and not being able to say no when I needed to, but I really do feel like I’ve been able to find a balance and also a team who is really protective and amazing. I really feel like I’ve thoroughly been able to enjoy this whole wicked insanity, I feel so present and grateful and that’s been so beautiful”

About transitioning from her Victorious character Cat Valentine:

“I would go from set to the studio and I would be making songs I was probably too young to put out yet. I remember there was a blurry time where nickelodeon wanted the music I was writing to potentially be for the show […]I didn’t know if I was supposed to be myself yet or not; and then someone that I was very close to and that was very supportive, really loving wonderful person in my life, was like “hey they’re gonna love you as you, with brown hair, singing r&b-inspired pop, just f-ing wing it and put that out” and I did it and it was really cool”

On making music: videos with Christian Breslauer:

“I really feel like I found my, lifelong music video collaborator in [him], I just plan on continuing with him forever, when there's something to do, it will be with him. I love him. I love it, it’s so collaborative, we speak the same language, we love all the same references, we just kind of were destined to meet, you know, when you meet like a creative person and you're like, ‘where have you been my whole life?’ it’s just kind of this cosmic collusion.”

Imogen Heap mentioned Ariana in a recent interview:

“I’m going to write a song about her one day.” […]no matter how big she gets, or how many things have happened to her, she remains a shining light and is so pure, funny and bright. ariana is so genuine; there’s not many people you can point to who send such a great message and energy out there.”

How lovely  so cool that Imogen's 'Headlock' has been having a renaissance recently, Ari has always been a huge fan.

Ariana has just appeared on the WTF podcast if anyone fancies some background listening, her interview begins at 13:30 and concludes at about 1:20:35:

I did consider putting this in the Wicked thread but quite a lot of other subjects come up too e.g. eternal sunshine, childhood, the evolution of her career and grief.

This quote lead me to find the podcast after coming across it on social media:

“It’s so important that these record labels, these studios, these TV studios, these big production companies make it a part of the contract when you sign on to do something that’s going to change your life in that way, on that scale. You need a therapist to be seeing several times a week. [They]know how your life is going to change, [they] see how it can change and impact people in a negative way, [they] should be responsible for protecting you from that.”

Ariana said she'd love to collab with Billie Eilish:

I adored Billie and ROSALÍA's collab at the start of the decade so would be here for her working with another of my faves x

Ariana's SNL episode won the 'Variety or Reality Series' category at the latest Art Directors Guild awards! I wonder if it will land an Emmy nomination?

Ariana did a 'What's In My Bag?' video for Vogue:

the biggest revelation for me was her being a wired headphones user over AirPods x
