Sadly I don't think any of their studio albums will reach those targets any time soon. To the point we might not see it happen until the 2040s, lol, unless a reunion gives their music a very impactful

Thanks to you for the excellent job Jay

It looks amazing Jay well done

I was pretty surprised by Stages' total too! It was on a total of 7,179 directly after she did promo on QVC to flog some copies, which helped the album re-enter at #151 on 2nd Dec 2012. It seemed dead in the water after that, so to do another 4,752 since then is more than I would have imagined. I suppose its sales may have remained steady for the rest of December, even though it wasn't in the Top 200.

I think it's worth remembering why people end up doing cover albums to begin with - casual buyers are more likely to pick up albums when they recognize songs on the tracklist. I'm sure this helped Stages shift a few extra copies more than anything. It wouldn't surprise me if My Happy Place ends up selling a few extra copies due to this alone once it starts hitting the bargain bins.

Didn't we also have video club here in the late 90s very early 2000s. My parents were signed up for it I'm sure where you paid a subscription and were sent so many VHS videos and or cds (you could pick extra ones too or pay for extra ones). These were obviously sales as you paid the subscription cost but were never counted by the OCC as they came directly from labels. That is how we ended up with Britney's oops album as it was one sent out.

Yup, and it might also explain the overcertifications based on shipping - some of those extra copies might've ended up being shipped towards those clubs, but not counted by the OCC. Not that it matters to the label really as they've "sold" 60k copies of the album either way, like in the US where they sold 500k of the Greatest Hits to Victora's Secret stores.

I think VS actually purchased 600k copies! That was such a smart move by the girls management. I mean it cost them a good chart position in the US but 600k sales right off the bat was such easy money.

In all honesty - I very much doubt it would've had a great peak, maaaaybe somewhere in the top ten but probably falling out quite fast. I don't think it would've sold anywhere near 600k in total there either, so yes, it was likely a very smart move and the album was certified Gold there. I do wonder what VS is doing with those copies anyway - surely they can't have sold out? Maybe they ended up giving them away to customers as gifts, which would of course be another good thing for them.

I think they sold a fair amount then did a offer to get a cheap copy with any item purchased. In 2012 the GH charted on the US digital albums chart after the Olympics, it had a total of just over 25k digital sales.

I wouldn't be surprised with the 600k sold via VS the black edition that came out in Jan and all the subsequent streaming sales if it is easily over 1m in the US. They never update their US certifications though so we will probably never know.

Thank you for your hard work, Jay. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Those weren't the digital-only sales - they were the total sales outside the Victoria Secret sales.

If it's lucky it might've sold 100k+ in the US including streaming at this point.

ETA: I was wrong about it being certified Gold by the RIAA - it wasn't. I guess they decided not to count those exclusive VS albums. To the label it doesn't matter of course.

It was it's digital only sales. As Spice was also on the same chart and it was clearly its digital sales too as it has sold 7.5m in the US.

The GH sold 10k alone first week of release in the US iirc when it had a full release in jan 2008.

 That would be true for solos, Jay. As a group I think they still have a chance.

Sadly I don't think we have a chance of getting anything from the group though

The new material for the animation, hopefully.

I don't think it was posted but the Spice white vinyl got a release through 'sound of vinyl' and was previously only a HMV exclusive. Anyway the week it was released through them it charted on the UK vinyl album chart at #31 on the chart week ending 4th June.

Pretty good going, think it is sold out though now but I think that is an extra couple of hundred sales so pushes it a bit closer to 3m a bit quicker than we thought.

Nice that it re-entered! Probably about 180 copies sold, because I know Arctic Monkeys above them sold 188!

From 11/10/19 (2,984,879) to 08/05/20 (2,993,501) they were selling on average 287 sales a week. If we assume 467 for that vinyl boost week, then at this point the album will have exceeded 2,995,000. Getting ever closer to that elusive 3m! I reckon 4 more months and it'll do it.

I really wish their streaming was stronger than it is. It could be worse of course, there's many old studio albums that won't be managing near enough 300 a week... but then there's also a fair few old albums that do far more than that as well.

Thanks Jay I thought it would be about that sort of amount of vinyls. So Spice, Spiceworld and the Greatest Hits have all charted on the vinyl album chart this year. Not bad for a 24 year old girl group.

Next Stop platinum then Spice 3m. Both are edging ever closer.
