I checked on Amazon, lots of 3rd party sellers but oddly Amazon are selling the Northern Star cd single new directly from them for just over £6. Odd but happens sometimes when stock is unearthed in warehouses.

Same happened with Geri's Ride it picture disc a few weeks back that caused it to chart on the singles sales chart.

Sadly I don't think any of their studio albums will reach those targets any time soon. To the point we might not see it happen until the 2040s, lol, unless a reunion gives their music a very impactful

Random... ah well sales are sales

I was working on their sales averages today and it seems that by late Feb/early March 2021 their UK singles total will cross 10 MILLION units :cheer:

(We just need JAY to find out the latest sales totals so that we can be sure and confirm from his sources)

No pressure Jay...

I remember when there was a really limited number of acts who had sold over 10 million singles only 12 but I bet it's very different now. Little Mix are an example I can think of I imagine One Direction are possibly on that list??

In 2012 these were the only acts to sell 10 million:

1. The Beatles (21.9)

2. Elvis (21.6)

3. Cliff Richard (21.5)

4. Madonna (17.6)

5. Michael Jackson (15.3)

6. Elton John (14.8)

7. Queen (12.6)

8. Abba (11.2)

9. David Bowie (10.6)

10. Rihanna (10.4)

11. Paul McCartney (10.2)

12. Kylie Minogue (10.1)

Spice Girls at this point in time were the 20th best selling singles act of all time in the UK.

Yes, because of streaming some artists literally have 10s of millions of units added to their pure sales total. That's how ridiculously inflated streaming has made of the charts and of artists total 'sales'.

You'll get no argument from me there, I hate how it's ruined the magic of a million seller. Also makes the best sellers list look ridiculous, I mean who would seriously think of One Direction as being on the same league as The Beatles? But that's an argument for a different thread

Give or take a few hundred sales, it’ll soon be comfortably over the 10M unit mark 😊

Hi Jay, just some info for you.

I came across a top 10 sales thread on Popjustice and SYBT sold 36,000 the week it was at #9 (just so you can add it to the first page) :D

According to OCC the physical and download sales of 2 become 1 are 1.15 million, the rest are streams so 200k stream sales have been achieved for 2 become 1.

The 2B1 update was given in December. Annoyingly when OCC update any single sales they always seem to do it when they've recently given a sales update.

According to OCC:

Spice Girls' Stop – the third single from their sophomore effort Spiceworld, had impressive first-week sales of over 115,000, but this was dwarfed by It's Like That's monster numbers – a whopping 242,796 copies flew off the shelves to see it romp home to Number 1.

Stop's lifetime combined sales stands at 638,000, made up of 404,000 pure sales and 27.2 million streams

I always thought the last pure sales update was 422k back in 2017 but that must have included streaming

Thanks for posting. Amazing to see it at nearly 650k even if some of that is streaming units

Interesting to know that its pure sales have exceed 400k :cheer: and nice to have another overall update. It had sold 616,877 by 13th November 2020, so it's increased by 21,000+ since then. It's selling over 1,200 a week! This means it's likely to have exceeded 700,000 by March 2022.

234,000 of its figure coming from streaming is interesting - that is over a third of its overall total.

I only wish they'd taken the opportunity to give us a precise first week sale. It's only ever been shared as an approximate 115k.

P.S. Yes its sales of 420,200 in March 2017 included streaming.

When it was certified Gold back in 2016, I assumed that was pure sales.

Either way it’s nice to know that ‘Stop’ is Gold in its own right.

Even millionaires haven’t even sold 200k 🤭

Streaming has contributed to certifications since 2014

I first downloaded Spotify in 2009(!)... off topic: I downloaded it because there was a competition in The Saturdays' mailer to make playlists for each girl. I actually won with the playlist I made for Frankie, and the prize was a meet and greet at their tour! I didn't use it much for years. I stayed faithful to iTunes for a long time!

Streaming started to be incorporated into the UK singles chart from July 2014 (first BuzzJack thread: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s...t&p=4732830 ). Albums since March 2015. Spotify actually launched in late 2008!
