Chris is pushing hard to get Wannabe back in the charts come July. He is collecting money to do 100s of downloads.

The one thing about Wannabe is it has about a million versions on iTunes and Amazon so you can download multiple copies of it. I'll download 10 copies that week to throw a tenner at it.

UMC just need to keep up their end of the bargain with a physical which I'm told is coming soon.

Sadly I don't think any of their studio albums will reach those targets any time soon. To the point we might not see it happen until the 2040s, lol, unless a reunion gives their music a very impactful

I will certainly be downloading too, not just on iTunes but also on amazon, tidal, etc, and we should set up streaming playlists for it!

If UMC do indeed put out a physical, I can see it doing really well, probably go into the Top100! Lets keep our fingers crossed!

If a physical does well, that might prompt them to do more physical releases for their singles? I mean, each and every single one of them is iconic (bar Headlines!) so I could see them selling 2-5k copies of each of them easily...

*starts writing an article for The Sun about how the Spice Girls bid to get back into the charts stalls as they enter at #??* :coffee:

Chris has worked really hard putting all the info together even think he has made a Spotify playlists with every version of wannabe on it from all compilations so you can put it on loop.

Yeah I mean if UMC come good on their promise then I think top 40 is possible. It really needs the physical release though, or it will be trying to scrape it top 100.

This is the Spotify link to the play list Chris has made with the hundreds of versions of Wannabe to stream

OK that great BUT I think the Spotify algorhythm means that if you simply loop that playlist, it wont count for much streaming sales. You have to include in there some non-Wannabe and/or non-Spice songs in between or the algorhythm will see it as you trying to rig the game (I know....)

Someone needs to tell that to Chris as otherwise it wont count for much?...

Top40?!??! They would really need to ramp up promo and create massive incentives for that to be a possibility, that's for sure!

Sales needed to make the Top 100 can vary, but it's usually around 4.5k in a slow week but it can sometimes exceed 5k. Wannabe is on ACR (which means that its streaming numbers are halved for the purposes of the charts).

If there are new Wannabe physicals then hopefully they'd sell in the thousands - it would kind of need to, to give the song a fighting chance of re-entering! I imagine its weekly UK streams could be around 400k to 500k, maybe resulting in about 2k chart sales. It would certainly be helpful if the song experienced a boost in its streaming due to the anniversary.

So Wannabe does around 8k a month. I think during 2019/2020 it was doing 10-11k a month. I guess the tour probably helped its increase. It'll definitely reach 2m units soon, which is exciting.

Well it does around 3k a week usually. I'm hopeful that fans get downloading as many versions as they can afford. Chris has already collected £363. Wannabe will inevitably be getting more streams and press that week.

I mean the chips have to fall the right way but I'm hopeful.

These are my latest estimates for their singles:

2,016,500 - Wannabe

1,333,700 - 2 Become 1

1,116,500 - Say You'll Be There

1,108,000 - Spice Up Your Life

952,700 - Goodbye

859,800 - Mama/Who Do You Think You Are

792,200 - Viva Forever

740,000 - Too Much

645,500 - Stop

309,400 - Holler/Let Love Lead the Way

60,400 - Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)

122,600 - Mama

20,200 - Let Love Lead the Way

And albums:

3,007,100 - Spice

1,614,500 - Spiceworld

672,400 - Greatest Hits

273,300 - Forever

A shame that we didn't get official confirmation about Wannabe passing 2 million. Chart sales have now reached a point that 2 million, while still great, isn't remarkable enough that it warrants a mention every time it happens. There's probably over 100 songs that have exceeded 2m now.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that OCC will treat us in July for the 25th anniversary and give us lots of sales data. By then, Wannabe might have sold nearer 2,040,000.

Thank you JAY!!

Cant wait till we celebrate Holler turning GOLD in about 84 years :cheer:

but do the separate sales of the mama and let love lead way tracks add up to the overall sales?

No they count as stand alone sales, unfortunately

Thank you for sharing!

I wish that many other solo Spice songs could increase their totals so quickly, or even half as quickly.

That's an increase of ~20,000 in 19 weeks, so about 1,052 or 1,053 a week on average. At this rate it'll pass 1 million sales in November 2022, just in time for its 24th anniversary.

Yeah I wish that too! I guess it makes sense though that the biggest selling one would seller more in the streaming era too... although it's not the case for all songs as we have seen with Stop being the girls second highest streaming song yet was one of their lowest selling singles initially.
