I could have sworn that I read 426,000 for 2 Become 1 somewhere at some point (as it’s what I have written in post 1 of this thread), but yes, I see that Music Week actually said 429,000 in 1997… how curious!

The upgrade to 462,000 happened a while ago though, they included that figure in a 2017 article! https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/c...ecome-1__17230/ Yesterday was the first time they gave it as a more precise figure.

The changes for Spice are strange but I’ll happily accept 128k instead of 114k… ha.

:D

I suppose it doesn't really leave us any clearer over what it actually sold- surely all three can't be correct. I understand the differences between 498k and 429k (DUS vs multiplier) but not the "new figure" and of course the OCC will never clarify- same really for the album. Look out for future changes :D

Sadly I don't think any of their studio albums will reach those targets any time soon. To the point we might not see it happen until the 2040s, lol, unless a reunion gives their music a very impactful

Yay! Great to know a new total! The week before was 3,014,292. So OCC weren’t too specific with their total in the 25 facts article because the info they gave then added up to 3,012,200 lol.

Edit: For some reason Music Week says 3,022,090 but I've seen it elsewhere as 3,022,091!

As well as Spice being in the chart at #5, I also have new sales for Greatest Hits: 690,219. It sold 779 copies, but that wasn't enough to go Top 200 (#200 sold 846).

Spice

#3 - Official Vinyl Albums Chart Top 40 [4,563 sales]

#4 - Official Albums Sales Chart Top 100 [7,434 sales]

#4 - Official Physical Albums Chart Top 100 [7,246 sales]

#5 - Official Albums Chart Top 100 [7,798 sales]

#5 - Official Scottish Albums Chart Top 100

#19 - Official Album Downloads Chart Top 100 (new peak) [188 sales]

Other info that I previously posted in the Spice 25 topic...

Spice format breakdown this week:

4,563 - Vinyl

1,464 - CD

1,219 - Cassette

364 - Streaming

188 - Download

There isn't a CD only chart, but it was only the 16th best selling CD of the week - so that format, relatively speaking, let Spice down. Which I think we knew all along would happen with there only being one new CD format and it being almost £30.

They were the 2nd best selling cassette of the week!

Spice's total is now 3,022,958.

Spice sold 867 units in last week's chart (Fri 12th November), but unfortunately it fell out of the Top 200! The #200 album sold 886... so they were just 19 copies behind. Spice was technically #207! Oh well! :(

Unfortunately I don't know its format split, apart from 554 physicals, and 313 digital sales (which is streaming and download sales combined).

What I do know is its format split in the Thursday midweeks: 694 units overall = 456 physicals (288 Vinyl, 128 CDs + 40 Cassettes) // 238 digital (220 Streaming + 18 Downloads). So before the end of the chart week it added on 173 sales (98 physicals and 75 digital).

This week:

#26 - Official Vinyl Albums Chart Top 40 [down 23 places, from #3] (#27 sold 344 vinyl copies)

#48 - Official Physical Albums Chart Top 100 [down 44 places, from #4]

#54 - Official Albums Sales Chart Top 100 [down 50 places, from #4]

#68 - Official Scottish Albums Chart Top 100 [down 63 places, from #5]

N/A - Official Album Downloads Chart Top 100 [out from #19]

I got one of those on this day memories when you press ‘create’ on Insta stories wannabe reached 1.8 million units 2 years ago this week. Now it’s on 2.1m so that’s 300k units in 2 years so wannabe is hopefully going to continue doing 150k units a year

TV airplay:

23 73 SPICE GIRLS 2 Become 1 (Virgin) Umg 158 +126% 7

They really should capitalise on 2 become 1 being a semi Xmas song. Stick some sleigh bells on it, re-release it with a cute snowy winter Christmas animated video and get it on all the Xmas playlists.

Wannabe was the 39th best-selling vinyl single last year.

I'll take that. It did well for them.

Do we think Spice 25 did 10k in total across all formats? Obviously it would be added to the total sales of ‘Spice’.

In the UK? Possibly...

https://www.channel5.com/show/britain-s-favourite-90-s-hits

"Britain’s Favourite 90s Songs" aired on Channel 5 on 7th January. It included pure sales figures (i.e. doesn't include streaming) for the Top 30 songs of the 90s, but I'm not sure what the cut off date is for the data:

16th Wannabe 1,404,899

29th 2 Become 1 1,146,367

On 19th September 2017 OCC revealed these sales:

Wannabe 1,385,211 (so it has increased by 19,688)

2 Become 1 1,137,775 (increase: 8,592)
