You also need to consider the fact that My Happy Place was released on 17 different physical formats.

you also need to consider the fact that it was released on 17 formats because a record label had faith in her.

Sadly I don't think any of their studio albums will reach those targets any time soon. To the point we might not see it happen until the 2040s, lol, unless a reunion gives their music a very impactful

Funny how Let Love Lead The Way is so much more popular as a separate entry than Holler, though I imagine that most of Holler's sales/streaming goes towards the Holler / Let Love Lead The Way combined entry and Holler's separate sales might be made up from remixes and such?

I think this must be the case! Individual downloads of Holler and its streams definitely contribute to the Double A Side.

Someone shared this information with me which was from the 26th October 2018 chart week:

Holler/Let Love Lead the Way - 280,000 sales

Let Love Lead The Way - 10,570 sales

Holler - 461 sales

Holler - 168 sales

461 then, now 462... so one more sale of whatever these sales of Holler are. Then there's another mysterious separate figure of 168.

I have two theories!

1. There's a release on iTunes - "Holler (MAW Remixes) - EP" which includes 4 Holler remixes. Maybe a sale of the full EP (£2.99) isn't attached to the Double A Side sales and only counts as Holler by itself?

2. Holler was released on 12" vinyl in 2000, it only contained Holler remixes. There was a rule back then that only three physical formats could be combined, which would have been CD1/CD2/Cassette. Vinyl sales wouldn't have been attached. A Spice Girls vinyl single would certainly have been such a niche purchase in 2000. So either the 462 or 168 sales could be sales of that format?

80 weeks have gone by since 26/10/18 - Let Love Lead the Way has sold 7,137 on its own since then. That is 89.21 sales per week on average. Presumably the sales per week around the time of the tour were higher than that, so now they'd be lower than 89 a week. It's kind of interesting that 40% of LLLTW's sales have been achieved since around the time of the reunion announcement!

The last sales figure we have for the Double A Side is 287,000 in May 2019, and before that it was on 280,000 in November 2018! It surely must be very close to 300,000 by now. Sadly it's so far away from Gold, but it'll at least be nice for it to finally be in the 300,000 region.

When that guy (sorry I forgot his username) provided sales for Dannii's Girl there was a huge confusion about the Girl reissue and the original Girl release appearing as separate entries - this is clearly the case with a lot of Spice Girls releases and might explain why we get different sales figures (besides OCC deciding to upgrade/downgrade sales from the 90s). They just show up as separate entries in their database and sometimes you'll have a busy bee who takes those and counts them all together and sometimes you have someone who'll just pick the first sales figure in the database - who cares when they're such big figures anyway, right?

For people who are obsessed with numbers and statistics it's annoying though. :kink:

Amazing thanks Jay!

So STOP is nearing 2x Platinum and Spice is soooo close to 3million :cheer:

 The last sales figure we had for Stop was from 12th April 2019 - 494,000 (a slight shame we didn't get a more precise figure, instead of one that was rounded). 56 weeks later - 582,314. That's an increase of ‭88,314‬ (roughly speaking). That's 1,577 a week on average! If it continues to sell that much every week, Stop is on target for Platinum by 31st July 2020 - but I think it's likely to take a bit longer? I would imagine its weekly sales at the moment is a bit less than 1,577, taking into account that the sales during the tour would have pushed the average up. I think it's safe to say that it'll go Platinum at some point this year though.

Spice - previous figure was 2,984,879, from 11th October 2019 (reported by OCC on 16th Oct). 8,622 sales in 31 weeks, which is 278.13 sales per week. Fairly slow progress, but it's on course to finally pass 3 million sales by 30th October 2020... just in advance of its 24th anniversary!

Also, if you add Mama's sole sales to the Who Do You Think You Are/Mama total, we are also close to 1million sales eheh

In a way it's a pity that Mama isn't allowed to contribute to the overall sales of the Double A, although I do understand the logic of only having 1 song contribute. Double A Sides are so messy in the digital and streaming era.

Mama/Who Do You Think You Are was on 786,000 sales as of 24th May, now 830,712. An increase of ‭44,712‬ in 50 weeks - ‭894.24‬ sales a week on average. If it continued selling at that rate, then this Double A Side release would pass 1 million in December 2023! Perhaps it'll really happen sometime in 2024.

As for Mama by itself, it's increased from 68,000 (26th October 2018), to 106,006. Roughly 38,000 sales in 81 weeks. 469.21 sales per week. It's definitely on course to go Silver in its own right someday - based on the average weekly sales it would do it by March 2024.

Shame about the lack of Forever sales growth and some of those totals are so mean and undeserving but it is good to have some totals. Also, Goodbye needs to be included in some throw back playlists or whatever cos that girl needs to cross 1miillion soon please!!

Goodbye slowly but surely edging its way to 1 million - it's a shame the progress is so slow.

925,000 on 12th April 2019 / 942,654 now. Just 315 sales a week on average. Currently on target for 1 million in November 2023.

It seems that Mama/Who Do You Think You Are is eventually destined to overtake it. It's great that it seems that by 2024, Spice Girls will have 6 different singles selling more than 1 million units. If Stop continues to do as well as its currently doing, it could pass 1 million by June 2025, which would certainly be #justiceforstop!

Can I make up for it when I say 'Viva Forever' is in the Top 5 best girl group songs?

I still think he's a trojan horse looking to attack and needs to be banned.

:arrr:

So I added the updated sales alongside the current sales for those omitted from the list and Spice Girls have sold in the UK:

Albums - 7,680,384

Singles - 15,820,863

Records - 23,501,247

If you include the Grenfall and He aint hevay singles that goes up to

Singles - 16,624,890

Records - 24,305,274

I really hope they announce something after we are over the pandemic. Emma and Geri have been posting lots of tour and Spice Girls things. Another boost to their discography would be very welcome.

It will be higher than this, we got the 4 biggest album track sales but obviously every other album track will have it's own total as well.

Yeah I didn't include those I only included singles and albums. I did however include promotional singles like IDKHTLH and Too many teardrops and ones released outside the UK like First day of my life and Rock me.

Things that surprise me from the update, I know him so well being close to 10k.

Mi Chico Latino is crawling to gold, was thinking it would be closer.

NGUOTGT being 5k ahead of the nearest album track, especially surprising as Move Over is on 2 albums and surely gets a streaming boost from being on the GH.

Stages actually did ok for Mel C, she seems to completely ignore it now despite it selling around what her other albums have and have 2 respectable single sales by her standards from it.

Weak's total is awful, I seem to remember it being her biggest airplay hit since Reason era so to have such a small total is sad. I like the song too.

FOIML did ok for Mel B, I think she could have a 10-15k selling album these days if she tried. Multiple formats and her ability to get high profile TV work would surely help her.

It sold nothing outside the UK though - unlike Emma, Mel C actually promotes in other markets. Stages did nothing in mainland Europe, hence she ignores it.

I think the point he is trying to make is that, with it being released on so many different formats you'd expect it would have sold more than 2k extra on Version of me released on just one format. How many copies would she have sold with just a CD album and nothing more? However albums sales have decreased since 2016 which he has not taken into consideration. This is why I think Melanie needs several formats this time round. If she sold what 4k of the CD album in opening week back then it's bound to be less this time round.

VOM has been out 4 years to MHP 1 year. If MHP sells 10 copies a week that is still another 1.5k sold when it gets to 4 years release.

Also the multiple formats are big money spinners, MHP sold 1k £30 vinyls, that is £30,000. Your average cd album is less than £10 so VOM would have to sell 3k CDs to make £30,000. If you can get your fanbase to buy expensive vinyls that is much more worthwhile than CDs.

What an amazing update !!

NS has been around that figure for some time hasn’t it ?

Yeah it went out of print a looooong time ago, way before streaming also took off, so you cant find it in shops and it hasnt really catched up that much on streaming either unfortunately. Mel and the record company need to make it more visible if they want some more sales.

I think the announcement of a vinyl, specially if it is for Record Shop Day, could do wonders to revitalise its presence.

Even then 13.5k with 17 releases compared to 10k with one release is not really a massive difference, you would expect more.

I'm not criticising Emma at all sales were down last year to what they were 3 years previous and she still managed to sell 2k more in the firs week than Mel did despite that. Also the vinyls and cassettes were clearly a good idea as they sold them at ridiculously high prices originally so they are bound to have made a bit of money out of it.

Case closed :w00t:

Its great that she had so much support from the record label but you gotta be realistic with your expectations. An Emma Bunton album isnt going to be flying off the shelves, specially when she did hardly any performances, no touring, mostly just some interviews, *one* TV performance of her lead single which was done almost two months before the album dropped and the second single (which actually had a decent video!) was released way after the album and in the middle of Spice tour rehearsals.

Unless Emma actually promotes and tours, sales arent just going to turn up.

I think they sold around what they were expecting and probably covered most costs. Chris has mentioned that BMG has plans for Emma's future so they are happy, and I would imagine that the release of the album and the Royal Albert Hall gig were ways of getting her name as a solo artist out there again, so they can capitalise on it better for the next one.
