Not that we should get into a Girls Aloud discussion in the Spice Girls forum, but honestly... all 5 of their studio albums are platinum certified (two of them are 2x Platinum). Their total studio album sales exceeded 2.6m.

All of their studio albums placed somewhere within the Top 200 best selling albums of their respective years of release (some even managed 2 separate years):

2003 - 71st best seller - Sound of the Underground

2004 - 44th best seller - What Will the Neighbours Say?

2005 - 74th best seller - Chemistry | 136th best seller - What Will the Neighbours Say?

2007 - 62nd best seller - Tangled Up

2008 - 8th best seller - Out of Control | 71st best seller - Tangled Up

2009 - 78th best seller - Out of Control

... I mean, clearly they sold albums!

I'd like to know some examples of artists who sold more albums in the same years as Girls Aloud but were dropped!

Give us the full list of who sold more than them in those years and I'm sure I can find several.

Matt Cardle had a million selling single, album sell 280k and was dropped.

Ella Henderson sold 400k copies of her first album and was dropped.

In fact Ella sold 453k of her album, was top 40 in 11 other countries (including #11 in the US), had a massive smash single. She was dropped.

Girls Aloud were a budget girl band, there was no real money invested in them for being on a major label as the label knew those album sales were poor.

Quoting angry-Melanie C ca. 2004 era to Louis Walsh: "when their records sell millions of albums worldwide, come back and talk to me."

By the way, love Nicola. She's cool.

Matt Cardle & Ella Henderson aren’t from the same era as Girls Aloud, so I wouldn’t say they’re valid comparisons, and the circumstances were very different. Simon Cowell was always focused on the next new artist to care about for just one album.

“At the time” in terms of Girls Aloud albums is 2003 - 2008. I can’t think of one artist pulling in platinum sales during those years that got dropped.

Try again Sammy my dear:

1. Neither of those are from the same era as Girls Aloud.

2. Matt Cardle sold 280k copies of his album so didn't "sell more albums and get dropped" as you said, he's like 100k away from their album sales anyway.

3. Ella Henderson wasn't actually dropped over sales she had a record contract and worked on a second album, something clearly happened between her and Simon or the record label that caused them to drop her.

4. Both of those acts didn't have the run of singles alongside album sales like Girls Aloud did or the big arena tours that Girls Aloud did.

5. If you're going to bring single sales into it they were also the 7th best selling singles act of the 00's decade, can't call that a budget girl group...

One hit single and an album that, in 2011, didn't reach platinum, is not comparable to Girls Aloud.
