Forever iconic. Whenever I watch this performance it still makes me feel so :w00t:

10 years since they last performed together as a 5 piece. That’s longer than this time gap:

26th May 1998: Spiceworld tour in Helsinki, Finland

16th Nov 2007: Children in Need performance of Headlines (Am I right in thinking that this was their first televised performance of their 2007 comeback?)

Yes first televised performance, we got the pictures of them at Victoria secret show prior to that.

It is an iconic performance, for sure!

The black cabs idea was genious and simple, just like the Spice Girls. Thier fashions were on point (although Geri's union jacks at the back of her dress were just a bit too cringe for me) and they sounded and performed great!

It was also the first time the Spice Girls were greated by social media commotion, as Twitter wasnt really a thing during their last reunion, and it was great to see them go viral in such a big way.

I always wished they also had done another song later on, like Viva Forever. Acts like Jessie J and Emily Sandé did multiple performances across the show (and some of them really terrible lol) and I could see them returning to sing VF and provide a really emotional moment.

Lastly, I always have a bittersweet relationship with this performance. For many, the Olympics represented the 'last time' that the UK showed itself to be open and fun before diving in head first into 12 years of conservative rule, removal of rights for large parts of the population, Brexit, etc. However, the whole event was basically nationalism on steroids, which at the time I didn't quite get.

Living in London at the time was TOUGH. Whole communities in East London were removed from their homes, families broken, etc, to make way to new buildings for the Olympics, a lot of which now lay empty. Homeless people were being arrested for making 'Britain look bad' which is insane.

So yeah, I love the performance, but the context of it really sucks. In a way, it was what made me look at the UK with very different eyes from before, and that is very much thanks to the Spice Girls.

Such a shame she didn't manage #1 with this and then never made it on her own, would have been so nice for them all to achieve a solo #1

I would have liked Victoria to have achieved a solo Number 1 so they could all say they achieved it.

9 years have passed since Matt & Melanie released their duet:

I still remember what an exciting week it was, when the first midweeks had it in the Top 10.

Yeah and they buggered off to Germany midweek where it was a flop instead of pushing hard here. An accoustic version on itunes and staying in the UK promoting would have sneaked it top 10 I think.

Any way it is a great song.

It was painful how they kind of threw away the opportunity to get a UK Top 10! It also needed a CD single here.

I remember how I was expecting that to safely be a top 10 hit based on how the pre-orders were doing.

I saw them both perform it at G-A-Y the week it was released, good times.

Honestly, I would let Matt ruin me
So annoying how they messed up this release on release week like why on earth was there no CD single combined the fan bases would easily have purchased a few thousand copies which would have pushed it up into the top 10! That and going to Germany on release week simply because Mel had a fan base there… I mean if they really wanted to push it in Germany fair enough go for a proper campaign there afterwards it’s not like the song or the acts were worldwide superstars who couldn’t stagger their releases.

Agreed about no physical release WTH were they thinking!

Albums:

10 years ago: 10/09/12 - Melanie C - Stages

Singles:

24 years ago: 14/09/98 - Mel B - I Want You Back (feat. Missy Elliott)

21 years ago: 17/09/01 - Victoria Beckham - Not Such an Innocent Girl

9 years ago: 19/09/13 - Mel B - For Once in My Life

6 years ago: 06/09/16 - Melanie C - Anymore

A whole decade and I've still not made time to listen to Stages :kink:

9 years since the last Mel B single. :( At the time I allowed myself to be excited about the possibility of a third album.

I dont think I've ever listened to Stages in full either. I noticed it was the only one of her solo albums to be completely ignored in her memoir aswell.

Yeah, I dont think I managed more and three of the Stages songs including the singles...

Not Such an Innocent Girl has grown on me, but really shouldnt have been a single at all. It's great as an album opener though.

Personally, I never really liked For Once In My Life. It's so badly produced and she sounds terrible (Im pretty sure it isnt even her in a lot of the track.... :o )....
