By the end of next year their Spotify will look much healthier.

Wannabe will be over 800m.

2B1, SYBT and probably SUYL will all be over 100m too.

And Spice will reach 1 billion on Spotify too

I know I regularly compare Spice Girls with Westlife lol, but I truly don't get this:

Westlife - My Love

Spotify: 123,110,406

YouTube: 284,172,706

Spice Girls - 2 Become 1

Spotify: 96,229,796

YouTube: 58,747,663

I don't think it would be an exaggeration to say that 2 Become 1 was about 10x bigger than My Love worldwide, comparing them when they were released in 1996/7 & 2000... so I'm very curious about why that particular Westlife song has gained such a huge audience in the streaming era.

Same with If I Let You Go...

Westlife - If I Let You Go

Spotify: 101,716,751

YouTube: 174,622,905

 A bit bizarre?

I know it doesn't matter ultimately, and honestly hats off to Westlife for having continued success with their old songs. In theory Spice Girls' numbers should be better, yet they aren't. Certainly 2 Become 1's numbers should be much better than that. I can only conclude that its presence on playlists isn't strong enough. Honestly, outside of Wannabe and Stop, I feel like pretty much all of their big hits (the UK #1s) have lower streams than they should.

I suppose the only difference is Westlife kept releasing music which the SG haven’t done sadly.

Another thing is radio airplay. I hear more boy bands playing on the radio (Westlife, Take That, BSB) not that the radio is streaming but I sometimes hear a song and then I go and stream it.

That is just.... bizarre :o I had to look My Love up and after listening to the chorus, I remember it from back in the day, but have not heard this song anywhere since 2000 and it seems almost too weird for it to have such a presence on streaming services. Like you said, 2B1 was, and I would argue still is, way bigger and better remember by the general public.

Problem is streaming numbers are way too easily manipulated with playlists, 'mixes' on youtube and what is being pushed when someone has shuffle on streaming services.

Continuing to release music helps too to get people back to your Spotify page.

"On 12 May 2018, the song was performed on South Korean music programme 'Immortal Songs 2' by Eric Nam. Band member Shane Filan was the featured 'Legend' and judged the participants." - could have something to do with it?
^ Westlife are / were very big in Asia. That could very well be the reason for their streaming success.

Yep, the thing is that Westlife continued to release and tour throughout, even if they did also take some breaks. Their presence in both music making and touring continued, so it is easier to get people to remember those. Plus they were very successful indeed.

Good on them, at least they really work for their money...

Work for their money vs doing random ads for mobile games, what would you choose?

Personally the first option, but these are the Spice Girls we are talking about. They literally got together to film at least THREE adverts for a f***ing online game but they cant do new music cos 'reasons'...

Ffs...

Also 2 of Westlife have been declared bankrupt haven't they or had money issues? Or have I made that up? So evidently they should do mobile game adverts lol.

I'm definitely not a fan of the commercials, very cringe, but at the same time- why not? If this is what they want to do. I don't think I will ever understand the fan obsession with new music. It's never going to happen, they don't want to and why should they.

My Love the often forgotten but best westlife song.

I saved all the Spotify numbers for all the singles on New Year’s Day 2021 so I could compare them on Jan 1st to see how much they’d all been streamed

Wannabe has been streamed over 140m times this year

That would be interesting to know what they've done in 1 year. It is easy to take for granted how big Wannabe is but Jesus that is huge 140m streams in 1 year on Spotify alone.

Pretty certain they did over 110m in 2020 so a big increase

I think it might have managed to get to 696,000 by now, and I'm fairly certain it'll be passing 700,000 sometime in February!

It's nice that the GH has increased so much over the year and hopefully it will keep doing so!

I was looking at Discogs recently and it seems to have picked up quite a few Re-prints and re-releases over the years across the world, so it seems like it is a constant seller.

Would be nice to know if it has broken the 2million mark worldwide yet? ^_^
