That's definitely sloppiness from the OCC to have linked to that - that is a list from October 2022 and it's a Top 300 of most streamed 70s/80s/90s songs regardless of where the artist comes from! So that's why Wananbe is lower down in 70th there.

 

Whereas this newer British (or mostly British...!) artists list was counted down on a radio station from 8th-11th May, but annoying OCC have only shared the Top 40 as a list. So I did my best to write up the whole list from skimming through the broadcasts: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s...t&p=7340665 but it's not a complete list unfortunately. :'(

What is depressing is the OCC list, unless I have missed something, Kate Bush and the Spice Girls are the only female only acts in the top 40. With Kate Bush being a complete fluke and was probably nowhere near the top 40 until Stranger Things used the song last year.

It really struck me how largely male dominated the list is too!

 

Also have to say I'm kind of surprised that Steps - 5,6,7,8 outstreams every Spice Girls song bar Wannabe, my goodness.

Spice girls streaming numbers are always very odd to me. I know they were a world wide act but their UK streams always seem so low compared to the overall totals on Spotify.

The girls would have better streaming/selling power if they 1) did promo for their music and 2) actually f***ing cared about being a damn band...

 

Steps have launched very successful comebacks with touring, promo and new music over the years. The Spice Girls do 1 month of concerts once every 12 years and literally nothing in between, no promo, no nothing but trying to flock their shitty solo projects on the side...

 

If they actually cared, they would have better streaming numbers. For such an iconic catalogue of music, they should be much better!

It'll be interesting to see how much of a boost the new additions to the playlist will get. Randomly Viva Forever's Radio Edit is included too, as well as the album version. Otherwise, the other singles are still just the album versions.

Hmmm.... I didn't realise until doing this, that several Spice and Spiceworld tracks have been ditched from the list... :blink: So it's not a perfect update. :unsure: Well, maybe this list won't be static, and songs will pop in and out of the list. A lot of other "This Is..." playlists get reshuffled with new inclusions from time to time.

 

They really should have kept all those Spice/Spiceworld tracks in and added more from Forever. They could have stretched this to 50 songs.

 

Changes I find positive include Goodbye being bumped up the list, 3rd is surprisingly high, I hope that it has a nice effect on it. Also way more prominent placings for Let Love Lead the Way and Headlines too. I'm a little surprised that Who Do You Think You Are is below them.

Don't get why they removed Move Over, but at least they added Step to Me, so that's something.

Yeah some really baffling choices hey?... Specially the remixes in my opinion, are completely wasted space specially so high up and near the original songs.

Wouldn't a seven days gap provide a better / more accurate indication? After all, we know that in general streaming activity on Spotify varies between the days of the week.

I honestly don't understand WHY they have taken out some of the album tracks... move over is a bit of a signature album track for them too!?!?
