Posted October 14, 20177 yr When Mutya left, new member Amelle re-recorded some of the band's tracks from fourth album Taller In More Ways. One of those tracks was Gotta Be You, which was all set to be the next single – until it was ditched in favour of ballad Follow Me Home, which charted in the lower reaches of the Top 40. The group's last ever 'single', Freedom, was also cancelled despite heavy TV promo (it was used to promote the Nokia N8, lol) and releasing a music video. Instead, it was given away for free on Amazon as a "thank you to fans". We should think so too, after all the stress they put us under with those lineup changes. Interesting piece from the OCC! I'm sure Gotta Be You was also lined up as the third single instead of Red Dress - I remember Mutya confirming this at one point. There's been quite a few poor decisions made when it comes to their singles... Pity!
October 14, 20177 yr Rumour has it that the switch of Gotta Be You for Red Dress was the straw that broke the camels back for Mutya. She to this day still hates Red Dress
October 15, 20177 yr Author I remember that interview on GMTV! :lol: And then they went with Follow Me Home as the fourth... such a bad decision. It lost its meaning without Mutya being involved, and I think that definitely showed in terms of public interest. I also remember Obsession was apparently lined up as the lead single, right until they came up with Push The Button. Might explain why the remix was (rather randomly) included as part of Red Dress' release.
October 15, 20177 yr They really should have released Now Your Gone as the final single. It was such a better track to begin with! Plus it had the added advantage of not having being promoted at time of TIMW release as having being partly written for Tahlia. (The creepy video didn't help) Yeah! I remember PTB being quite a late recording. Worked out rather well for them in the end :lol:
October 15, 20177 yr Author They really should have released Now Your Gone as the final single. THIS! -_- Would've been a nice way to showcase Amelle's contribution to what is so clearly not her album. Or they should've went with GBY - somewhat faceless, but a bop nonetheless.

October 21, 20177 yr One Touch was apparently considered as a potential fifth single from One Touch until Siobhan left. Crash & Burn seemed to be considered as a potential fourth single from Sweet 7 that obviously didn't happen (was featured in promos and from what I remember was also on the sticker). Then there's the mythical Hard post-Freedumb that never materialised. Man Without Friends / Iodine was considered as a double-A side from Siobhan's Revolution In Me. They also considered releasing Medevac as a third single from Ghosts.

Then there's the mythical Hard post-Freedumb that never materialised. Yep - there's quite a few promos out there with this on it, so it seems like they were testing the waters. Whilst I don't think it would have smashed by any means, and given the disastrous era overall, I still think that Sweet 7 ended very prematurely. Considering the (relative) successes of About A Girl and Wear My Kiss, I think they could've squeezed another Top 40 single in there, and boosted the album sales ever so slightly. I always thought it was silly to release Overloaded with just the one single, too. I know the album sold well regardless (though it deserved more) and they had Walk This Way, but Good To Be Gone was received pretty well, and it could've boosted Amelle's contribution some more. Mutya was set to release Strung Out at one point as there was a Jeremy Wheatley single mix listed on 365 Artists. I think it was ready to go as second single, but they went with Just A Little Bit instead... Might have been due to the backlash from Amelle's supposed writing credit/it originally being intended for Overloaded.
October 23, 20177 yr I love strung out, would have been a much better choice than Just A Little Bit. Then again if Song for Mutya wasn't a hit I don't think anything else on that album could have been.

October 23, 20177 yr What happened to that Spiral song with William Orbit? Was that cancelled? Don’t think it was ever scheduled. As best I can tell it was just an album track and nothing was every released as a single from it. Looks like the album missed the UK top 100. Shame because I absolutely love Spiral
October 24, 20177 yr Yeah, by all accounts Spiral was never considered as being a single. If anything I think Island would've blocked it.

October 25, 20177 yr Kind of. I mean technically yeah it did well but I think everyone was expecting it to be so much bigger and do so much more than it did.

It received such good reviews, but the promo/videos weren't exactly impressive, and I think the release strategy was generally very poor. It should have led the album.
