Some interesting news this week that the BBC are planning to open up their archives by placing their shows on an 'BBC iPlayer+' service.

 

Effectively if you subscribed (such as with Netflix) you would have access to the entire BBC back catalogue of shows (or close to it).

 

I can see this being a good idea for them to raise extra revenue while actually letting people access their vast archives of shows. Of course the BBC Store which was this but with programmes available for purchase flopped hard and it's not surprising in the day of streaming. iPlayer is already such a force, I could see this becoming moderately popular!

I would love this!! Especially for a chance to watch like the old series of the apprentice again

This is a great idea for the BBC, much better than the BBC Store which, when it was first announced, I thought it was goijg to be the same idea as this! I would hope it would be £5 or under a month though.

 

I can see the Attenborough programmes being a big selling point for it.

I would happily pay a subscription for BBC iPlayer IF it also meant they finally scrap the outdated enforced lisence fee. This could also mean we'd finally be able to watch iPlayer overseas too hopefully.

The license fee is fine. I have no issues at all paying for it. The BBC is one of the best, if not the best, public service broadcaster in the world. You get a remarkable amount for your money and no adverts.

At around 40p per day, it is remarkable value for money!

2 or 3 trailers between shows promoting their own content is hardly a bad thing :lol:

Depends on how much revenue they get from Netflix airing their shows. I can't see them completely cutting themselves off to air everything exclusively on their service. 10 years ago maybe but now they definitely benefit from branching out with other streaming platforms.

I think they've got a chunk of stuff on Amazon as well. I think that we'll find it progressing like ITV have done. You can now add a premium ITV channel to Prime Video and you can still get some ITV content on other platforms. All4 never stopped Netflix having IT Crowd et al. Hopefully the BBC will follow their lead and get a good mix.

Oh yes it is :angry: Some of us are old enough to remember when there were no trailers (apart from the lead-up to Christmas) and continuity announcers didn't feel they needed to make a speech.

I’d love to see the original Robot Wars included on this.
