I thought that entrance was staged especially after all the work he puts into getting ready during the show - enter with a bang and all that!

I really don't understand the defence of 'look past their views and see the person' - a persons thoughts & views are a very large part of their make-up.

You're really happy with someone being civil and nice in social situations but will grimace and roll their eyes at the mere mention of how you live your life or for using an expletive?!

Ann's views on homosexuality & women's rights are abhorrent. She genuinely believes that people should be treated differently because of who they were born to be.

Her views are outdated, harmful & shouldn't be given a platform. The fact that she reminds people that she's there when they're presenting a behaviour or opinion she disagrees with is nigh-on a dictatorship.

She says things like "say that when I'm not here" or "I don't care what you do out there but I don't like that in my presence".. so effing WHAT?! People being themselves is not offensive. Why should anyone have to change or moderate their behaviour on behalf of anyone.

Well quite, Chris from Power Trip tweeted something similar which I agree with. It's this "Britishness" that's all about keeping quiet and private and "stiff upper lip" and all that, which is bollocks really. If I was keeping my private life from my friends and not talking about something that is a part of who I am, I wouldn't really class them as a friend. If you can't be yourself with somebody then they aren't really your friend. It's all very well to be civil with someone you're, but people, including a supposedly proud bisexual woman in Amanda, are accepting Ann's views and not challenging them :/

:hi:

I ended up missing well over a weeks worth because I haven't had the time to watch it until the last few days but I'm all caught up now (well I've still got the latest ep to watch but it's not on catch up yet), I've been avoiding this thread bc spoilers :kink:

I was howling at Jess' cucumber thing, I honestly think she could win it. She has such an innocence about her that's so likeable and i totally get what Amanda means about her spirit, her optimism just seems to be contagious, everyone literally smiles around her. I think it could be her, Shane L and Ann top 3 although I still really want Shane J to win and for Ann to be booted asap. Dan grew on me a lot actually but I think it was his time to go and I'm not even that sorry to see Andrew leave, he was pissing me off with the Ashley and Ann stuff. I think more than anything it's a shame for Shane to lose his best friend but that was always going to happen, i just wanted to give him a hug when he went to the bench :( As for Jonny he has zero personality and i don't understand how he got as far as he did when the likes of Rachel and Maggie didn't, i was gutted for both of them when they were evicted.

I think Shane L and Malika are kind of the rocks of the house, like they kind of level out the mood. I still love Malika and I'm looking forward to seeing more of her and Shane J now that the "lads" are gone, i think that will reallt change the dynamic of the house and probs for the better, like that hot tub thing was so wholesome

Wayne I can't decide whether I like him, mostly I do but I feel like he's very over dramatic and contradicts himself a lot. I don't like how he acts unbothered by something one minute and then he's so offended by it the next. Ashley is annoying me, besides Ann shes probably my least favourite of the ones left, all shes doing now is sucking up to Ann for god knows what reason?? :')

I love Amanda, i think her sense of humour and general attitude is fab but I did see a clip on cbb Twitter of her and Shane J from tonight's episode and it was hard to watch. I do wonder why she doesn't have more to say in defence of same sex marriage or LGBTQ equality in general when it's a topic that is discussed a fair amount in the house. I feel like it's just because she doesn't want to upset Ann as the only remaining older woman and wants to keep her as an ally, that's what's fuelling the age divide though as you don't see Wayne doing that

its probably because Amanda is 82, in the house for just a few weeks and can't be bothered to stir up stuff about the views of a 70 year old women who isn't going to change her opinions. Ann is also no longer a politician and whilst her record and views aren't great and are bad really anything that's said isn't going to change her views or indeed the political landscape.

Shane J has already addressed and said things to Ann and they've had their discussions on their different political views; Ann also seems to just go to the bed when the nightly activities commence and its not like much of their behaviour seems to be moderated.

Its an odd situation as I don't really see what's being gained by Shane J bringing up Ann's views and record at every opportunity especially as they're in a house where you'd try and get on and not want to rock the boat. Yes if everyone thought like Ann then the state of society would be still in the dark ages; but it isn't and Ann and her views are quite relicary and doesn't represent everyone. Yes people like Ann exist but pushing liberal views on her and telling her how to act etc isn't going to change anything.

What’s being gained is Shane J sticking by his beliefs and not ‘playing nice’ with Ann for the sake of the show.

Why should Shane be a fraction of the person he is because Ann doesn’t like it. Wayne & Amanda are well versed in hiding their true selves, having done so for many years, so it’s just another day at the office for them and they’re better rehearsed at it.

The only thing I would say about Shane J is that he should stop trying to get people to ‘join the cause’ because he’s better off banging his head against the wall. He’s found an ally in Malika, I think he should just be content with that and try to get through the final week. He’s done a fantastic job at educating the otherwise ignorant amongst the house and general public, but one thing they don’t like is when someone begins to sound preachy.

Oh I agree in terms of being yourself etc; its the preachiness that's the issue (for me anyway)

What’s interesting is that we have a Final 8 and only TWO (Shane J and Ann) have faced eviction! :o

I went to bed seething after watching this when I came in from a night out last night. I'm so glad that this thread has done the work for me of working out how to phrase why it made me so annoyed watching it but Kye in particularly has highlighted why it rubbed me up such the wrong way. I don't think it's wrong as such for Amanda and Wayne to take Ann on 'face value', but to talk down to Shane and belittle him the way I feel Amanda did, I think is honestly disgusting. He is absolutely not in the wrong for feeling that a woman who rolls her eyes practically whenever LGBT is mentioned (as happened when his letter was being read, for goodness sake) is someone who is bringing a negative to his experience. I don't think I could live with someone who is so persistently negative and makes me feel like I should be ashamed of showing affection to the same sex.

The way Amanda in particularly shot him down is making me angry even just thinking about it and the high-fiving at the end just topped it off. Not nice.

I get that impression from Amanda too, I think she's 82 and she can't be arsed to stir things up and I think that is fine - she just wants to have a nice normal stay in the house. I like that attitude from her actually, and she doesn't put too much stock in labels and divides so it can come across like she doesn't care or isn't proud but she's just who she is whereas people like Shane J put a lot into their labels and identity and there's nothing wrong with that. But if she's got energy to argue with Shane and bring up his entrance (I really ponder what on earth the relevance of something that was nearly a month ago is) then surely she can be lie hang on Ann is wrong. Perhaps she does just want and need an older woman as a kindred spirit but that doesn't need to come at the expense of total ignorance to the struggle of others.

I think Shane J constantly brings ups Ann's views because her reaction to LGBTQ things or just affection in general is constant and Shane by nature is very affectionate towards the people he cares about. Like when she rolled her eyes when Shane was talking to Wayne about how they have an automatic understanding of each other because they're the only two gay men in the house or when she told Shane and Andrew to stop being so disgusting? He's explaining why it upsets him so I don't see him bringing it up as much as Ann rolls her eyes as an issue tbh and I've never found him to be preachy. Even when Amanda was shouting him down you could see he was holding back and just nodding, letting her say her piece even tho it clearly upset him. It's one thing to stay out of something as Amanda often does but she crossed the line there by belittling Shane

I'd have Ashley/Ann/Shane L but it'll be Ashley/Malika/Amanda.

Also what a pointless filler task today  I don't get when they just do tasks for nothing like no reward but I guess it gives them something to do.
