This peaked really quickly for me, it hit me really instantly and I love the 80s vibes and Fetty Wap actually sounds good (:o) it's incredibly catcy but I got tired of it pretty quickly tbh, probs just more cus of me overplaying it rather than the actual song itself, anyway, interested to see what's coming from them this year,a dn hopefully an album!

I remember hearing this as R1's hottest record and wasn't expecting much, but I was completely blown away, WESLEE's debut and it really is so interesting, it's very minimalist but in such a good way, it's got amazing vocals and the production is so intriguing and almost mesmerising, I couldn't help but want to listen over and over again, it's so powerful but so simple, it sounds so fresh and different to any other stuff around, it's so so underrated. WESLEE have released some other stuff this year, including Bathwater which is a pretty catchy bop tbf, but nothing has managed to come close to the brilliance of this unfortunately :(

 

I absolutely despised Sexual but I actually really like Call Me! It's one of those fast-paced, catchy dance tunes you get stuck in your head and can't resist :music: Love it!

Never got into either of NEIKED's songs, they fell really flat for me and aren't all that dancey anyway.

 

Didn't like the Cheat Codes/Fetty song either. :(

A bit late but sooooo excited to see 'Two High' here!!! It's so catchy, I had no idea it was popular on Spotify! There go my plans of sending it to BJSC this year :lol:

So when this first came out I was incredibly dissapointed by it, it wasn't by any means bad, it was catchy and Alessia provided great vocals, but it just wasn't Zedd, however, it grew on me quickly, it's incredibly infectious and the production isn't quite as bland as it seems at first, it's absolutely nothing on Zedd's greats, but I can appreciate it. The follow up Get Low however... Hopefully 2018 Zedd is more Stay than Get Low, and I might be able to enjoy his output again

A big part of me thinks that I shouldn't like this anywhere near as much as I do, it's just typical basic future bass, even more so than ITNOL and STBL, that has so obviously been produced by Garrix in hopes of getting a hit and it comes through pretty obviously, but something about this, idk if it's Garrix's high production quality or Troye's amazing vocals, really stands out and sets this apart and I can't help but just really love it, it's probably the weakest of his future bass singles (bar So Far Away, but let's just forget about that) and really shouldn't have made number 1 in hindsight, but I think that's just a testament to the greatness of Martin Garrix

 

46 & 47 both collaborations that sound amazing on paper, yet were mostly disappointing releases :lol: I quite like them both (Stay > Get Low anyday) but I remember Stay being such a let-down for me from Zedd after fully loving his second album. There For You was kind of similar, although my hopes weren’t quite as high :P

Now, this is a divisive one, I absolutely love it, it's got such a nice vibe and it's such a head bop, but it's certainly easy to understand those who see it as lazy and boring and it's hard to argue against the idea of The Chainsmokers selling out to make basic pop music and chase hits when this is pretty much the perfect example of this

 

#45, #46, #47 and #49 are all great songs!

There For You was quite dull in my view, he's really gone on autopilot with his last few releases - at least Name of Love and Scared had great vocalists (and better production) but Troye is highly overrated and doesn't add anything to the song.

Stay was definitely a huge let down, but once I got past it being Zedd I started to quite enjoy it tbh, could never get into Get Low though

Well this one certainly surprised me a lot, I'd liked Riton's past releases, especially Rinse & Repeat, but none of them really managed to fully grab me, I hadn't loved any of his releases until this. I was at first intrigued by MNEK who I like pretty much everything from, but it hit me so instantly. The production is so fresh and interesting, especially for Riton who seems to have a problem of producing the same sound over and over, MNEK delivers amazing vocals ofc, and the choir really lifts up the song and gives it a whole lot of energy. It's one of my highlights of the year and has still to get old for me really, would be much much higher if it was released earlier in the year I suspect. Hope Riton can deliver more like this this year

Now, I'm not gonna lie, I completely couldn't remember how this goes at all, I had to listen to it before writing this, Idk why I forgot about this but I think it's outstanding genericness might be a factor. It's not bad by any means and it's pretty catchy and summery and has a nice use of trumpets in the drop, but I honestly have no idea how this managed to peak so high :lol: sounds like the sort of song that should've charted low top 40 for like a week or two tbh

I remember first hearing this earlier in 2017 when it was first playlisted on R1 and thinking nothing of it, but it kept on cropping up throughout year and during it's second push when it eventually became a hit, it really clicked with me. Not usually the sort of thing I chart but I completely fell in love with this, Mabel's voice is lush and it's got such a chilled vibe and feel that felt quite fresh to hear in the chart. Hopefully Mabel's future releases can stand up to this

So after the amazing Sunshine, I was very excited to see what else TIEKS had to offer, and although this is completely not what I was expecting, it really is so so good. It's so summery and upbeat and I can't help but go mad when I hear this, it has certainly firmly cemented TIEKS on my radar now, but it's such a shame that nothing like this would ever be a hit :(

 

Nice to see "Say A Prayer", "Finders Keepers" and "Deeper" making your Year-End list!

Deeper was another that was really instant, I loved it for a couple of weeks then it kind of wore off on me. I'm sure by June I'll think it's amazing again though ;)
