The 16 acts competing in EMA 2018 have been announced:

Anabel

BQL

Gregor Ravnik

INA SHAI

Indigo

KiNG FOO

Lara Kadis

Lea Sirk

ManuElla

Marina Martensson

MILA

Nika Zorjan

Nuška Drašček

ORTER

Proper

Tanja Ribic

ManuElla of course represented Slovenia back in 2016 with 'Blue & Red'. Tanja Ribic has also already done Eurovision in 1997. A lot of previous EMA finalists make a return including KiNG FOO, Nika Zorjan and BQL, who won the EMA televote last year with the amazing 'Heart Of Gold' by almost 8,000 votes, yet ultimately lost out to the dreary 'On My Way' by Omar Naber. This could well explain why the regional Slovenian juries have been axed this year, in favour of juries of industry professionals, OGAE Slovenia and an international jury.

ManuElla was very underrated in 2016 and 'Heart of Gold' was brilliant so I'm pleased to see BQL back too and hopefully here to get their revenge.

Snippets of the songs have been played on Slovenian Radio throughout the week and they're all very handily contained in this recap video

These versions are all in Slovenian as they're having an Icelandic style rule change this year where you have to perform the song in Slovenian in the NF semis and then if you want to go with an English version for May then you switch to that in the final.

BQL look likely to produce something in the same style of Heart of Gold but given Slovenia's televote winners never win outright, be on the lookout for Ina Shai, Lara Kadis and ManuElla and their ballads.

Here's a recap of the final eight songs in the final this Saturday.

Ina Shai and BQL have switched into English for the final of EMA while everyone else will be remaining in Slovenian (at least for the National Final, if a song in Slovenian wins then don't rule out a change to English in time for May).

Also the rule for Slovenia is that the winner of the public vote always seems to *conveniently* last with the juries so if you're looking for something that'll win the Jury vote then seventeen year old Lara Kadis seems like somebody you should watch out for;

Even before the draw many people suggested Nuska was RTVSLO’s pet of choice this year, so the pimp slot only confirms that for me.

EMA

24th February 2018
Begins at 7pm in the UK and 8pm in Slovenia
The show is scheduled to last 2 hours.

Watch the selection via the official RTVSLO livestream.

Running order

Voting format
The voting will be 50% jury voting and 50% televoting.

The favourites to win
YouTube views suggest BQL and Lea Sirk will be ones to watch out for, with Lara Kadis not too far behind those either.

BQL screwed over just enough by the juries so that their televote won isn’t quite enough... for the second year in a row. Feel so sorry for them. Nine times out of nine now that a Slovenian televote winner has been overruled by a jury winner when they’ve used a combined system.

Not quite as bitter this year as Lea is much better than Omar and Promise wasn’t as good as Heart of Gold, but I can’t see BQL ever coming back now while this system is in place.

FABULOUS
I think if she wanted to swap to English at Eurovision then she’d have to have done that tonight so that’s another language represented in Lisbon!

This is such a bop but I'm annoyed it didn't get a revamp, it's a shame it's dead on arrival even in such a bad semi as semi 2 :(
The build up to the chorus is the only part about this one that I like. But I'd probably put it just about in my top 10 from the w*** semi 2.
