029 Paramore – Hard Times | 193pts in Wildcard

028 Kendrick Lamar – HUMBLE. | 202pts in Wildcard

027 Katy Perry (ft. Nicki Minaj) – Swish Swish | 207pts in Wildcard

026 Calvin Harris (ft. Frank Ocean & Migos) – Slide | 220pts in Wildcard

025 Little Mix (ft. Machine Gun Kelly) – No More Sad Songs | 235pts in Wildcard

022 Major Lazer (ft. PARTYNEXTDOOR & Nicki Minaj) – Run Up | 217pts in Final

021 Lady GaGa – The Cure | 237pts in Final

Kicking off the top 30 is Jason Derulo with 'Swalla'. I say this every time but he's really done well to still be getting top 10 hits this far into his career! Paramore came back last year after a long break and they're at #29 with 'Hard Times'. A nice little reinvention from them as they transitioned from pop punk to more of an 80s/new wave sound.

One of the biggest names of the year, Kendrick Lamar, is at #28 with 'HUMBLE'. His biggest hit to date by far, perhaps his collabs with the likes of Sia and Maroon 5 really paid off. :kink: At #27 is 'Swish Swish', Katy Perry's third single from Witness. It did surprisingly well in the UK, peaking at #19 whereas I wouldn't call it a proper hit anywhere else.

At #26 is Calvin Harris with 'Slide', the lead single from his more urban album Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1. It was a much-deserved hit for Frank Ocean, he sounds great on it. At #25 is Little Mix with 'No More Sad Songs'. I'm very surprised to see this higher than 'Power', but maybe the latter was in a tougher group and therefore missed the wildcard round.

At #24 is 'Your Song', the loooooong-awaited return of Rita Ora and written by none other than Ed Sheeran. Little Mix appear again with CNCO at #23 with 'Reggaeton Lento', their highest entry on this countdown! This was a very clever collaboration and it really paid off for them.

At #22 is Major Lazer with 'Run Up', which got the least points out of any song that made the final, followed by Lady Gaga who got the second-least at #21 with 'The Cure'. I would have expected top 20 for her here, but at least she got there officially, a nice return to form for her chart fortunes!

Yeah I was surprised about Power but it's got a lot of haters whereas people are more neutral to NMSS I think.

020 J Balvin & Willy William – Mi Gente | 248pts in Final

019 Taylor Swift – …Ready For It? | 258pts in Final

018 Anne-Marie – Ciao Adios | 272pts in Final

017 Camila Cabello – Crying In The Club | 285pts in Final

016 Kesha – Praying | 289pts in Final

At #20, 'Mi Gente' is the highest of the Spanish hits on this countdown. In the charts it was off to a very good start on its own, peaking at #5, and then a remix was released with Beyonce which brought it back up to #5. Personally I prefer the version without Beyonce, it's my favorite of last year's Spanish hits as well.

Taylor Swift's highest appearance is at #19 with '...Ready For It?', presumably a less polarizing song than 'Look What You Made Me Do' which helped it do better here. It was seemingly rush-released the week after LWYMMD which probably hurt its sales, such was the messy release strategy of Taylor's Reputation era.

At #18 is Anne-Marie with 'Ciao Adios', the follow-up to her feature on a huge #1 ('Rockabye') and her own single 'Alarm'. This gave Anne her first top 10 as lead artist and was overall very well received! Unfortunately she took to long to follow this up which killed her momentum, but her new single sounds pretty promising!

At #17 is former Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabello, with her first solo single 'Crying In The Club'. At first it was panned for being such a Sia soundalike, but the song was a grower and after several weeks of climbing finally reached #12. Sadly Camila has seemingly disowned the song and it was scrapped from her album.

At #16 is 'Praying', the very long-awaited comeback single from Kesha. The last four years of her career were full of turmoil and as a result she really pours her heart out on this song. It was one of the most powerful moments in chart music last year, and a successful departure from her usual style of pop. In other words, well worth the wait!

Bit surprised that Taylor’s highest entry is at #19 :o Also surprising that Kesha misses out on Top 15. I don’t like Praying or really any of her new material (or old material if I’m honest) but a lot of people on Buzzjack love her so to see her out already is a shock!

Almost the entire of the Top 30 is looking really great so far though *.* Paramore, Kendrick, Calvin, and Taylor all my favs so far

It pains me to see Kendrick that low when he would have made it straight to the final if I remembered to vote in the round he was in :'(

Pleasingly low for 'Ciao Adios' though :P

015 DJ Khaled (ft. Rihanna & Bryson Tiller) – Wild Thoughts | 292pts

014 Kygo & Selena Gomez – It Ain’t Me | 293pts

013 Katy Perry (ft. Skip Marley) – Chained To The Rhythm | 299pts

012 Avicii (ft. Rita Ora) – Lonely Together | 302pts

011 Calvin Harris (ft. Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry & Big Sean) – Feels | 316pts

At #15 is DJ Khaled’s highest entry here, 'Wild Thoughts'. I love this just for the sample alone – it’s Santana's 'Maria Maria' which was a hit in 2000. This was the first #1 to occur as a result of the new ACR (accelerated chart ratio) rule, which helped it overtake 'Despacito' but only for one week

At #14 is the return of Kygo, with vocals from Selena Gomez on 'It Ain’t Me'. This is more or less Kygo by numbers which I’m not keen on, but it was a hit. Kygo and Selena have notably both struggled to ever reach the UK top 5, and this song continued their drought by peaking at #7.

Unlucky #13 goes to Katy Perry and 'Chained To The Rhythm', the lead single from her long-awaited fourth era. The political undertones were widely discussed, especially after Katy had campaigned for Hillary Clinton in the US election. Overall it’s brilliant and a little thought-provoking!

At #12 is Avicii’s biggest hit in a while, with Rita Ora on 'Lonely Together'. It peaked at #4, Avicii’s highest since 'Hey Brother' and Rita’s highest since 'Poison' although she’s now beaten that since then. It was a well-timed departure from the folky-dance he had released previously.

And just missing out on the top 10, it’s Katy Perry again featuring on Calvin Harris' 'Feels'. This would have been a surprise #1 except that Pharrell was involved :heehee: The three now have about a dozen #1s between them, even more than Rudimental, Jess Glynne and Macklemore combined :P

Yeah I was surprised about Power but it's got a lot of haters whereas people are more neutral to NMSS I think.

Personally think NMSS was LM's best from the era along with Touch whereas Power is one of my top 5 least favourite songs of 2017.

Power is a bop I won’t let anyone tell me otherwise x

What an amazing 15-11 though, 10/10 after 10/10. Kygo & Avicii became some of my favourite & most played songs of last year, and the rest aren’t too far behind  (for some reason I know all the word to Skip Marleys verse??)

010 Jax Jones (ft. RAYE) – You Don’t Know Me | 320pts

009 Martin Garrix & Dua Lipa – Scared To Be Lonely | 329pts

008 Jax Jones (ft. Demi Lovato & Stefflon Don) – Instruction | 332pts

007 Dua Lipa – Be The One | 334pts

006 Disciples – On My Mind | 341pts

Kicking off the top 10 is Jax Jones and RAYE with ‘You Don’t Know Me’. Sadly this was stuck at #3 behind two Ed Sheeran songs but proved to be a long-running Q1 hit nonetheless. RAYE had just been awarded third place in BBC’s Sound Of 2017 before this peaked, and it’s still her biggest hit to date.

At #9 is another collab, Martin Garrix and Dua Lipa with ‘Scared To Be Lonely’. This was quite a surprise to miss the top 10 officially, it had the momentum at first and then stalled at #14. But Dua had three songs in the top 20 at the same time, another one of which is just a couple places higher here!

Jax Jones appears again at #8, turns out you like ‘Instruction’ a little bit more than ‘You Don’t Know Me’! I think the Demi Lovato feature was a shock to most of us; she pulled it off though and it was a good debut entry for Stefflon Don as well. An epic summer banger *.*

And at #7 we have Dua Lipa again with ‘Be The One’, finally her first top 10 as lead artist! It didn’t do much when first released in 2015 but was well-received on Buzzjack and got Dua’s name out there. They were so smart to give this another push, and it’s still my favorite song of hers

At #6 is one of the most brilliant dance hits of the year, ‘On My Mind’ by Disciples. This one is associated with my favorite chart fact of 2017—when Calvin Harris, Disciples, and Ina Wroldsen, all three artists on ‘How Deep Is Your Love’, were all back in the top 40 at the same time but with three separate songs (‘Feels’, ‘On My Mind’, and ‘Places’) :magic:

Double Dua & Jax Jones  I wonder what would happen if they were to collab in the future... BJ #1 forever?

005 Clean Bandit (ft. Zara Larsson) – Symphony | 379pts

004 Lorde – Green Light | 435pts

003 Rita Ora – Anywhere | 447pts

002 Camila Cabello (ft. Young Thug) – Havana | 496pts

001 Dua Lipa – New Rules | 556pts

At #5 is 'Symphony' by Clean Bandit and Zara Larsson, the follow-up to Christmas #1 'Rockabye'. This was very lucky to sneak in a week at #1 between the endless reigns of 'Shape Of You' and 'Despacito', becoming Clean Bandit’s third #1. It’s Zara’s first chart-topper in the UK after she already came close with her own songs peaking at #3 and #2. It kinda saved her album launch too after 'So Good' (the song) failed to set the charts alight :kink:

At #4 is Lorde with 'Green Light', the first single of her long-anticipated second album Melodrama. Despite the song only scraping the UK top 20, it had a very healthy chart run and IIRC would’ve peaked higher had it not been up against all of Ed Sheeran’s album tracks. :drama: Nevertheless, it is presumably her second-biggest hit behind 'Royals' which is a fine result for her.

At #3 is 'Anywhere' by Rita Ora! This has rightfully been compared to 'Run Away With Me' by Carly Rae Jepsen and has that definite pop classic feel to it. It was cruelly denied from becoming Rita’s fifth #1 but more than made up for it on our own Buzzjack Multichart, where it spent 13 weeks at #1 breaking the previous record of 11! I’m sure Rita would be thrilled about that if she had any idea

One of the songs that blocked Rita from #1 has blocked her here too—Camila Cabello’s 'Havana' at #2. At first this was released with another single, 'OMG', and 'Havana' proved to be more popular so it got pushed as a single. It was a very slow climb but she did make it to #1 and stayed there for 5 weeks! The song itself stayed true to Camila’s Cuban-American roots and stood out nicely among the hits of the year.

And at #1, with a whole 60 points ahead of the runner-up, to no one’s surprise it’s Dua Lipa and 'New Rules'! You all saw the excitement over this song when it became the female solo #1 since Adele’s 'Hello', which was nearly 2 years old at that point. It’s the song that quickly propelled Dua from an underdog to a proper chart force, and she’s making waves in the US too where this currently sits at #6. Well done Dua on your domination of Record of the Year 2017 :D

Thanks to everyone who voted, read, commented, and waited so patiently for this countdown and especially to Jack who did the overwhelming majority of the work!

What an incredible top five *.* I didn't compile a best-of chart last year but I'm pretty sure the top section would look very similar to that! Great to see Dua completely dominating overall.

Thank you both for compiling these results :D

Oh I was expecting a Dua/Lorde top 2, pffft at 'Anywhere' beating 'Green Light'. W/e ~ that is a v good top 2 at least.

Thanks for finishing this off Jordan (and thanks to Jack for running this as usual of course) x
