January 27, 20187 yr Author I'm becoming more of a history movie buff (thanks to DaddyDaniel) so might check out The Death of Stalin. You'll definitely have a laugh during it either way so I would recommend it. I had fun and I'm not even remotely a history buff... Thanks for commenting Grant! 'to the bone' being so low is quite ridiculous. stunning movie mother at 65? bitch i'm OUT Oops, you can't please everyone :heehee: I'm a blockbuster fan at heart so it'll probably only get worse from here :heehee: Cheers for the comment Pavel ! Woahhh you're dropping the great ones too quick here - Blade Runner 2049 and Dunkirk were fantastic :( With the latter, the dialogue is very much secondary to what's happening so it may have been intentional, I still think it works rlly well especially with such excellent visuals. Moonlight was also great, I can see how some thought it dragged too much, but I liked the stripped back approach. I agree re: Fences though, that was the worst of the Best Picture noms for sure, nothing really cinematic about it at all which just fell a bit flat. I still really need to see mother, am quite scared to think what may happen!I can appreciate objectively that those two are very well made films and are technically very impressive but there was just not loads of entertainment value in either of those for me and I don't exactly enjoy going to the cinema to sit and be bored (for well over two hours in Blade Runner's case...) My bottom three from the Best Picture line-up last year was Fences, Moonlight and Hell or High Water. None of them were particularly thrilling and I wouldn't watch them again out of choice... Thanks for commenting Chez! :D Still yet to see it (I really want to tho!!) but I love how mother! is one of the most divisive films ever yet you’ve put it close to the middle of your list :lol:Even I am the only person I know of that has neither LOVED or HATED it  I liked it a fair bit but a lot of it went over my head to be honest until I did further reading on it :drama: Thanks for commenting Klaus!
January 27, 20187 yr As I massive fan of original Blade Runner, I NEED to see the follow up at some point. I also plan on seeing Mother at some point.
January 27, 20187 yr Author 60. Sing I had a fun time watching this the first time at the cinema but I've seen it a few times since then because of my sister and have gone off it a little bit. It is another one of those animated films that is just a little too childish still and although it did make me laugh a few times, there just wasn't enough here to enjoy as an adult. The characters were fun though (I especially enjoyed the pig duet) and the songs were pretty catchy (although a few more original songs would've been nice) and I'd still watch it again in the future - I just appreciate/prefer the more adult themes covered by the likes of Pixar in their animated films. 61. Loving I missed this at the cinemas during awards season and was pretty gutted because I do like to see all the acting nominees from each year if possible. I wasn't massively anticipating it because the trailer seemed pretty dull to me so I was surprised at how much I ended up liking it. There were certainly slow moments and times where I was a little bored but to counter that, there were some especially touching scenes that really stood out and stuck with me. Ruth Negga was excellent and it's not hard to see why she became an Oscar nominee last year even if I'm still a bit bitter about the Amy Adams snub. Joel Edgerton was just as good too so I'm shocked that he wasn't more competitive for an Oscar nomination last year either. 62. Baby Driver Probably upsetting a few more people here by not having this really high too but I would probably single it out as THE most overrated film of 2017. I may not have loved the films but I was in awe at the technical aspects of films like Dunkirk and Blade Runner whereas I just didn't really see anything special with this at all. It was just a generic action movie synced to a bit of music at times. I had quite a good time watching this to be fair because the action as fairly fun and Ansel was such a charismatic lead. I usually find both him and Lily James pretty boring in films but they both shined lots here, the best roles yet for both of them. 63. Flatliners I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this as I haven't seen the first film but I was expecting more of a sci-fi film from the trailer rather than the horror film that it basically was. I always say horror isn't my thing as I'm easily spooked but I liked this because it didn't give me nightmares for weeks on end but still had me jumping out of my skin in places. For example, scenes like Ellen Page's death were so unnerving and eerie and the film did a really good job of making it so tense in the final act. James Norton was the stand out for me in the cast though (plus, he is insanely hot ) 64. Going in Style This is basically the definition of a B-list comedy, it's totally forgettable and not all that funny but it's impossible to not enjoy. The three leads had all good chemistry and it was just a laugh to see three Oscar winners muck about a bit now they're older and have so much fun in a film like this. Alan Arkin is probably my least favourite actor of the three (I've seen less of his films anyway) but he was my highlight of this and definitely had the best material here to work with.
January 27, 20187 yr Joel Edgerton goes under the radar way too often, he is such a talent. Loving was a lovely movie too <3
January 28, 20187 yr Author As I massive fan of original Blade Runner, I NEED to see the follow up at some point. I also plan on seeing Mother at some point. Let me know what you think if you do get around to seeing them. Mother is certainly unlike any other films I've seen before :heehee: Thanks for commenting Harry! Joel Edgerton goes under the radar way too often, he is such a talent. Loving was a lovely movie too <3 I thought he was good in Black Mass too! I'm sure he'll get his awards recognition one day :( Thanks for commenting Grant!
January 28, 20187 yr Author 55. Star Wars: The Last Jedi One of the biggest disappointments of the year for me easily. Star Wars is one of my favourite franchises ever and both Rogue One and The Force Awakens were EOY top 10 films in previous years for me (6th and 4th respectively). This just didn't feel like a Star Wars film whatsoever for me and I thought the tone was really off. So much of the humour was forced and there were just far too many silly scenes like Leia flying through space like Superman or Luke milking an alien and drinking the milk - it was all just a bit odd and had me cringing at times. There were some brilliant scenes too like Laura Dern's sacrifice and the throne room fight but it was the first SW film I've ever been bored in and they could have done with cutting out Finn and his storyline altogether. Hopefully episode 9 is brilliant and makes this worth watching again in the future. 56. The Mummy After so many poor reviews and unexciting trailers, I was quite worried that I really wouldn't enjoy this but it was surprisingly fun. Plenty of jump scares which kept things entertaining and I really liked the physicality of the Mummy herself from Sofia Boutella. Quite excited to see where this monsters movie universe goes next, I'd like to see more of Russell Crowe especially. Tom Cruise was decent too but a few of his jokes fell flat or were awkwardly timed. Oops at his completely irrelevant female sidekick too, characters like that just look so outdated in the same year as feminist icon characters like Wonder Woman... 57. Cars 3 I'm the only person I know in real life that loves the Cars franchise so I was really hyped for this. Sure, it's not as emotional or as moving as films like Coco, Inside Out or Finding Nemo but the idea of talking cars is one that entertains me and I still had a great time watching this even as an adult. The humour was pretty spot on and I didn't cringe at it at all like I did at some other kids films this year. Cruz Ramirez was a really good addition to the cast too and I found her to be an incredibly likeable character. A shame about the diminishing box office returns for this compared to the last instalment  58. Rough Night This was certainly no Girls Trip but the chemistry between the girls here made it a fun little watch even if a lot of the jokes fell flat. The comedic material here was nowhere near as good as the aforementioned Girls Trip and I didn't laugh out loads but it still made me chuckle a few times and all the girls were so likeable. I've found Kate McKinnon very irritating in pretty much everything I've seen her in before but she was the highlight here for sure and her accent was hilarious. Zoe Kravitz was really personable here too and I warmed to her character very quickly after she seemed a bit cold at first. Let's be real though, the best scene was Colton Haynes in a thong *.* 59. The Meyerowitz Stories There were discussions about this being a potential awards contender this year and I must say that it's a shame that didn't happen because the performances here were really strong and it's easily the best work that all of Sandler, Stiller and Hoffman have done in years. We don't often get to see Sandler and Stiller do more serious work very often nowadays and this film just showcased how good they can be if they want to be. Hoffman's comedic timing was hilarious and he had me laughing out loud numerous times. I'm not sure if anyone else on here has seen this as it's just me who posted in the thread so I would really recommend this if you're looking for something to watch on Netflix!
January 28, 20187 yr Baby Driver is an excellent movie. I need to see The Last Jedi soon. If I don't manage to catch it in the cinemas, I'll just wait for the DVD release and probably get it from my local FOPP or have it as a birthday present.
February 3, 20187 yr Author TBH I wanna see The Mummy even if the original Hollywood ones re so iconic. It's actually pretty good. I've not seen the original ones so I can't compare but I would recommend the new one for a fun 2 hours!! Thanks Grant! Baby Driver is an excellent movie. I need to see The Last Jedi soon. If I don't manage to catch it in the cinemas, I'll just wait for the DVD release and probably get it from my local FOPP or have it as a birthday present. I was so disappointed with the Last Jedi, let me know what you think when you see it! Thanks Dalek!
February 3, 20187 yr Author 50. The Fate of the Furious I found Furious 7 quite a dull film so wasn't particularly excited for this but it massively exceeded my expectations with how bonkers it was. Where else would you see a baby carrier incorporated into a Jason Statham fight scene? Charlize Theron was such a good villain too and you totally believed how icy and wicked she was, I do hope she returns for future sequels. Helen Mirren was a complete scene stealer too so I'd love to see her brought back - her cameo had me cackling. Minus points for Vin Diesel being annoying and loving himself a bit too much but I can't deny I had a great time watching this. 51. Patti Cake$ Perhaps a little bit odd and all-over-the-place at times but Patti Cake$ is certainly an enjoyable film and I was feeling incredibly uplifted by the end. It has a few cliches like the protagonist being bottled by the end of the first verse but by the final chorus, the crowd are going absolutely wild for it but overall it was certainly a good film. I was hoping this would be a breakout role for Danielle Macdonald so I do hope we get to hear more from her in the future. The soundtrack to this is really good, Patti is a pretty bangin' rapper and I go back and listen to some of the songs quite often - Tuff Love especially  52. Life Basically a huge rip-off of the Alien movies but done so much better than any Alien movie I've seen  The monster was terrifying in parts and you always had this sense of dread that he was looming around any corner when watching them film. I like that they went THERE with the character deaths too with just how brutal they were, the coughing blood and coolant drowning scenes were almost difficult to watch at times. A shame the marketing was poor for this because I feel like so many people missed out in a thrilling little film :( 53. Home Again This was another one of those B-list comedies that isn't all that hilarious but impossible not to love because of how charismatic the actors are. Reese Witherspoon knows how to work a rom-com and she was brilliant here, so likeable and the only character to make me laugh out loud in the film when she was drunk and started calling out the lady who employed her  She deserves better material to work with really (something as good as Legally Blonde or Election which can show off her comedic talent a bit more) but I still had a lovely time watching this. Jon Rudnitsky was a surprising discovery for me as he ended up being my favourite character, a very charming and sweet character (and cute af :heehee:) 54. Power Rangers I was only really a casual Power Rangers fan so wasn't as excited for this as some people seemed to be here on BuzzJack. However, I ended up enjoying it a lot and would love for there to be a sequel too. There were some really great gags that made me laugh out loud and all the characters were very likeable (aside from Zack who I found a bit arrogant). Seeing the Zords in action was super exciting and even the hand-to-hand fight choreography was very entertaining.
February 3, 20187 yr I find Reese far too hit and miss to invest in most of her movies  Edited February 3, 20187 yr by Regina
February 3, 20187 yr i agree about Life re: marketing. I only properly noticed and watched it a few weeks/months after release on a plane~ It was a nice movie but nothing groundbreaking at the same time.
February 23, 20187 yr Author I find Reese far too hit and miss to invest in most of her movies  She can definitely be a bit hit and miss! Home Again lies somewhere in the middle for me but it was still a fun way to kill some spare hours <3 Thanks for commenting Grant! i agree about Life re: marketing. I only properly noticed and watched it a few weeks/months after release on a plane~ It was a nice movie but nothing groundbreaking at the same time. They certainly could've marketed more aggressively though. It was a decent movie and deserved slightly better box office returns in my opinion :( Cheers Pavel!
February 23, 20187 yr Author 45. The Beguiled I really enjoyed this, 90 minutes was a great run time to have because it felt really well paced even in the slower moments in the film which definitely worked in its favour - it would probably have risked being boring if it was any longer but I was thoroughly entertained for the whole film, especially in the more campy, over-the-top scenes (the leg breaking the second time especially was just so dramatic :heehee:) I loved watching the love square develop and the ending had such a great pay-off, the final act was so exciting. The whole cast did a good job but Kidman was probably my favourite, Dunst is always under-rated though :( 46. Logan Despite being the superhero movie with some of the best reviews of recent years, Logan ranks pretty low here on my countdown for a blockbuster hit. I did enjoy it but I'm much more of a fan of the quippy/light superhero flicks from MCU and this was just a bit dark and slow for me in comparison. I really liked how brutal the action was and was pleased they made the decision to make it a 15 as it definitely made it edgier than other X-men films. Having said that, I'm a sucker for a big CGI monster vs hero battle and this film provides something new instead, whilst critics were a fan of the more contained feel of this film, I'd have probably preferred to see another classic X-men villain come alive on-screen. 47. The Great Wall This is another film that I wasn't particularly excited for based on just the trailer but ended up being way more fun than expected. It was pretty much non-stop fantasy action from the very first second and I had a great time watching it. It's basically the definition of nonsensical popcorn flick but the special effects were decent and the action was entertaining throughout. Matt Damon was a charismatic lead character as usual and the run time completely flew by. 48. Gifted I wasn't particularly hyped to see this because the trailer made it look like such a B-movie so I was pleasantly surprised with how dramatic and touching it was. The little girl was really good at acting in the crying scenes and Chris Evans did a fantastic job in a more serious role too (plus his beard was completely gorgeous in this ). Octavia Spencer was my highlight in this though, she's always such a vibrant and warm character on-screen and it's impossible not to fall in love with her characters. I do wish we had seen more of her in this but she always seems to settle for supporting roles nowadays :( 49. A Bad Moms Christmas I did rather enjoy the first Bad Moms film but didn't exactly find it laugh out loud funny like I did other recent female-lead comedies such as Bridesmaids or Girls Trip. I would probably say this was slightly less funny but I definitely preferred it overall due to the addition of the grandma characters. All three of them were so perfectly cast and were easily my three favourite characters in the film. Christine Baranski especially had me chuckling with her perfectly timed line delivery. It could've done with more Christina Applegate who was a big reason the first film was so good but this will definitely be a future Christmas classic in my household.
February 23, 20187 yr Chris Evans is hugely underrated as an acotr :( Gifted is so good. Edited February 23, 20187 yr by Regina
