For me my favourite (they are all retro games btw) is Stronghold Crusader, Morrowind or Rome Total War.

My username The Snake actually comes from a character from the castle building RTS game Stronghold Crusader. Rather like Age Of Empires 2 it is set in the medieval era, although in the Near east in the 12th century. Love a game which involves building castles and sieges.

Morrowind was a great role playing game, very charming and with lots of fan made mods to download. My favourite of The Elder Scrolls Series.

The original Rome Total War is brilliant fun going between pitched battles and the big strategy map, again there are lots of mods to download.

What are your favourite games ever?

My all time favourite game is Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

I would make a list but I’m hoping for a CoD rate soon!

Also LOVE The Simpsons games on PS2 and of course The Simpsons: Tapped Out, which is what I’m currently playing (available on Android and iOS I believe)

Then you have the classics like Grand Theft Auto and Crash Bandicoot. I don’t play them anymore but I may get the new Crash game on PS4.. anyone know if it’s any good?

LOVE Nintendo! Mario games are also absolute classics. Then you have Wii Sports ;)

Final Fabtasy 8

Final Fantasy 9

Rise of The Tomb Raider

Rome Total War is one of my all-time favourites as well! First game to get me into history and honestly probably made me so interested in it all. Best of the Total Wars too, they're good games but they declined in quality over time.

Europa Universalis IV I'd count as my all-time favourite now, it's so deep but yet easy to enjoy as you map paint across the early modern period. I just like games with history and maps, I can't help it.

Crusader Kings 2 is great as well, similar to EUIV but with more of a roleplaying aspect, so you are freely able to play as an evil medieval king who hurls babies out of windows or lights manure on fire to kill his enemies, or if you feel like being a bit more crazy, play a Viking who becomes a Muslim before sailing to India and becoming its emperor. All is possible.

Vikings (paticularly ones in Russia) did sail down rivers to trade with the Middle East so your role playing scenario involving the Viking ing to India is not so improbably although the becoming a king there is.

Didn't know there was such role playing in CK2, thought you just had to stick with the kingdom you chose.

Rome Total War largely was responsible for getting me interested in history too! Eventually led to me buying books about Roman battles.

It will be hard to come up with a list of my favorite games but I will say what my ultimate fave is...

One of the most underrated sequels EVER.

At the risk of sounding like Watch Mojo, sticking to one per franchise, off the top of my head these are definitely up there.

Uncharted 2

Just pippng 4, which was of course an absolutely brilliant game and a technical/graphical marvel but had a few more issues for me. I only played the PS4 remaster but from what I've seen from the PS3 version it's just as fab and there wasn't a single bit where I thought I felt was a bit boring or a chore to play through which there are one or two of in all of the other games. The first really drew e into the series but this improved on vitually everything in such a brilliant way. I especially love the really epic convoy and train sections, so fast paced. This culd well be my absolute fave.

Pokemon Platinum

If we're going just by the story and main game, whilst I love all the games for some reason this has always stood out to me. Pokemon Emerald easily has the best post game as I loved the battle frontier (I used to be oddly obsessed with the Battle Dome and seeing how making weird combnations would affect the seeding they put you in and if I could beat them with like Dragonite andthen just Magikarp and Igglybuff or sth lmaooo), but this is definitely the best main game for me. It has the best mix of Pokemon for me too, there' loads I want to use and it's easy to build a team, my problem with Gen 3 for example is I seem to have the same 10-15 in a combination of some sort in teams. The post-game was really good too with the Battle Frontier Island!

Spyro: Year Of The Dragon

The pinnacle of PS1 platformers for me, everything about this was flawless. I loved the way that they mixed in so many different gameplay styles from the usual Spyro platforming, and all of them really fit and didn't feel just chucked in for the sake of diversity (I didn't care too much for the Bentley levels though) as platformers do. I mean in the same game you can do the standard Spyro stuff one minute, be a kangaroo the next, and then Spyro is skateboarding  It's all just so fun.

Ratchet & Clank

Although It's a shame Insomniac ditchef Spyro and allowed it to become... the mess it is now, they did just as well on PS2. This had that same feel as Spyro with so many varied worlds, and it definitely made sense given the space theme. I love the way you can have all the different weapons and you can tackle combat in different ways as a result, some people like to support themselves with Glove Of Doom to chip away at enemies and then there's me, full on offense fireblast  The PS4 reboot was ok but a bit disappointing, I hope they make a new one on the PS4 that's as good as the golden days of this!

Infamous: Second Son

I love love loved the superhero element to this mixed with open world gameplay, it's incredibly fun even to just dash around and jump from roof to roof. The story was brilliant too with quite varied missions and combat was brilliant fun with all the different powers. I thought the choice system was brilliant too, that gave it such re-playability. I really want to play the others s I hope they do a HD remake collection for PS4 or something, Saints Row 4 was great as a kind of copycat version of many of its elements though.

Tomb Raider (2013 reboot)

Such a brilliant reboot to the series, feels more similar to Uncharted and the like than old Tmb Raider but I love that. It has such a sense of adventure but mixes in the survival elements really well that gives it such a fresh feel to the other games but it doesn't totally leave its roots behind and ruin the feel of Tomb Raider. I need to get the newer one to play which I'm still yet to do!

Tony Hawk's Underground

Perhaps THE best character customisation ever, except maybe the Saints Row series. I loved just making really weird bald aquamarine skinned women or guys who's face was just a floating pairs of eyes  The actual game was really fun too, I liked that they added in stuff that wasn't in the old games like walking, getting off your board to get up to interesting places and skate on a roof and stuff like that, it added a lot more to the story and more challenges and stuff to complete.

The Simpsons Hit & Run

One of the most fun games ever, I can just spend hours going round Springfield kicking people and smashing up the cars  I prefer it to actual GTA tbh, maybe it's that I know Springfield so well and it's so fun to play through it like this, I wish more TV shows did the same sort of open world game, especially with the technology we have today. Simpsons Hit & Run 2 plz

Mario Kart Wii

You can't go wrong with any Mario Kart game really but this is the one I've played most of, used to be absolutely obsessed and unlocked everything! God knows how many hours I spent on this, single player and multi are both just as fun. I did have Mario Kart 8 before I sold my Wii U which was fab but I definitely find Wii the best version just in front of Double Dash.

Final Fantasy XV

I know this won't be a fave among FF fans but i feel it's one more for the wider audience, as I'm not a huge fan of FF (I'm playing through 12, own 10 which I must play through soon and will get 7 wihen the remake comes out) as I'm iffy on turn-based RPGs that aren't Pokemon. I liked the action twist of this, the world was huge and sprawling, I really liked all the characters and the breadth of stuff to do, even when you couldn't be bothered just yet with whatever dungeon you had to, you could go and hunt a monster or take photos with Prompto or something.

Then you have the classics like Grand Theft Auto and Crash Bandicoot. I don’t play them anymore but I may get the new Crash game on PS4.. anyone know if it’s any good?

I was never as big as on Crash as I was Spyro but I have the PS4 collection, it's legit just the PS1 trilogy remastered so if you liked them you can't dislike it! It is harder though, I did read why I think it was smething to do with the jump physics? I think it was that on the PS1, the first one and the latter two didn't have the same jump physics, but in this one they all have it the same and at times that makes the platforming more challenging, which can be a good or bad thing I guess

Final Fantasy IX is my ultimate favourite game. I've owned and completed it several times, and I've even wrote my own fanfic revolving around the story with my friends as the different characters! I've enjoyed all the Final Fantasy games though (just got a remastered XII for Christmas).

Other gaming series I love are Uncharted, Pokemon, Football Manager and Tomb Raider.

It is VERY good, Like Liam said it's harder due to the jump mechanics, and using the analog stick is more difficult I find as well (as opposed to using the original D-pad controls). Definitely worth getting it, it should be cheaper now but I got it for £24 and it was well worth the money.

It’s £29.99 in Argos! :o

I think it was that anyway, I pre-ordered it like 5 months before it came out so had Amazon's pre-order guarantee.

Just had a look on there now and it's £29.41. Still worth it tbh but I wouldn't disparage anyone waiting until it came down (heck I do that with AAA games anyway)!!

TES : Morrowind

Diablo 2

Civilization 2

King's Bounty: The Legend

and all-time # 1 favourite is iconic Russian videogame The Patalogic (2005).

I got Crash for £24 as well when it came out! Tbh it's worth £30 anyway as it's 3 classic games in one brought right up to date, and £30 is less than one game would cost in most instances.

In a vague chronological order starting in about 1982

Oblivion was very good too, with online modifications the world can be massive. The Obvivion gate closings were quite a challenge too, my strategy was to run as fast as I could to the Oblivion stone while looking at the mini map, avoiding all the fireballs.

Skyrim is good too but haven't played as much of it. Still prefer Oblivion as there is more variety in environments.

You're right of course but they did more than sail down rivers. The Vikings are know to have raided and traded as far east as the Persian Gulf and the Rus besieged Constantinopol itself. Bjorn Ironside sailed right through the Mediterranean by going around Frankia and whilst It's unlikely anyone circumnavigated Africa, crossing through the centre and setting sail Eastwards after is plausible

I don't like Oblivion for auto-leveling.

Skyrim is very modern and didn't work on my old PC.

Aye, I mean, my point wasn't that they didn't do it, I love the idea of the Varangian Guard and of course Russia is a Viking nation by founding itself even though many don't think of it that way, but more that playing as a Viking in CK2 is so flexible because it's so easy given the mechanics available to Viking characters (some would say overpowered and given Paradox is a Swedish company...) to put a character where they probably shouldn't be given their culture (and there are achievements to put them all over the map, from India to the Muslim world to Mongolia). It's possible to do the reverse and put an Indian in Northwest Europe (I think there's an achievement for that too) but it's a lot harder with the game mechanics.

Sounds like the Viking nations are given more ability to move about compared to a lot of nations in the game because historically they were exploratory nations in the early medieval period.
