Don't know much of her, but she looks quite at home in that clip. I knew Missy was piloting whether we were ready for a gender swap.

And I agree, I'd like a male companion this time.

Wow she looks great I can't wait until Christmas! I recognise her name but I don't think I've ever seen anything she's in, unlike when Capaldi was announced (I immediately rewatched The Thick of It after we found out it was him ) but I'm intrigued. I hope she does the Doctor justice as a younger portrayal, since nowadays the Doctor doesn't need to be the "grandfather figure" that the character was originally created as and I hope they continue with younger actors in the future.
Oh yes, I'm very happy that they've got someone younger again, the whole female aspect made me forget about that! I feel mid to late 30s is sort of the perfect age for the show as it is now.

I'm intrigued, Jodie is a good catch, guessing Chris wanted her for the role as the new Doctor, when he was involved with Broadchurch.

Maybe Pixie Lott will be her companion

On one hand, I'm really glad to see them go for a female Doctor. If the writing is good and she retains the characteristics of the Doctor, there shouldn't be a problem.

What worries me is the bigger picture atm. I worry they went with a female Doctor purely for publicity because ratings have fallen off a cliff and this could created some much needed intrigue. However, they've also run the risk of alienating the few people still watching IF this goes wrong. Coupled with the fact that the new showrunner doesn't have the best track record when it comes to writing for Doctor Who episodes, I'm not feeling hopeful about Series 11. But I REALLY hope I'm proved wrong. It's a risky move that will either save the show or hasten the ratings decline.

Clearly the biggest issue to come of all this is the fact that the Doctor STILL isn't ginger.

Me for 14, the campaign starts now x

Neither has the Doctor been a person of colour STILL, which I would have rather seen over a female.

He said: "I always knew I wanted the 13th Doctor to be a woman and we're thrilled to have secured our number one choice.

"Her audition for the Doctor simply blew us all away. Jodie is an in-demand, funny, inspiring, super-smart force of nature and will bring loads of wit, strength and warmth to the role. The 13th Doctor is on her way."

I don't know why, but this gives me Sean O'Connor vibes (for people who follow EastEnders).

I believe Olivia Colman was also in the running, how come everything is related to Broadchurch, Chris Chibnall, David Tennant and obviously Jodie.

omg BBC the gingerist pigs!!1!

I'm completely ROFLing over my twitter being full of 'Doctor is a woman, take that misogynistic pigs!' Tweets and yet I can't find a single tweet moaning about this news
my major issue with this is that the doctor will now suddenly be completely pansexual yet not explore anything except her love for men and u will NOT dare see a woman-on-woman kiss for consistency's sake either, it's like as soon as the doctor's gender fluidity changes their sexuality is rigidly hetero :o
I dunno, she's still married to River Song....

tbf they did just have a lesbian companion

I dunno, she's still married to River Song....

Lmao true!!

I have seen mysoginists complainin on facie bees. I shut em down BuffyCharmed style.

looking good. The news should get big publicity world-wide (and it is a huge enterprise), to be honest I've loved every Doctor since the reboot and every companion, and I don't expect anything to change that as long as there are enough good to great scripts in each season.

there is no such thing as a bad character, only bad writing or bad acting, and Who leads have never been bad actors, give or take a Pertwee or McCoy comedy grimace.

As it's largely a kids show and needs to appeal to other countries for overseas sales I dont expect to see woman on woman or woman on man hot action anymore than the Doctor has enjoyed man on woman action before. The removal of Bill after only one season, and the end of Missy, was clearly the set-up to the change. I hope if it's a male companion (as it looks like) that it's more of a Jamie likeable laddy type, it's been 48 years since the last one....

Yeah I'd like a male companion now (or both male and female?), would be the first time in the new series where a full-time male companion is fully fleshed out! Rory felt like an extension to Amy most of the time and Nardole, as great as he was, was VERY underused.
