Justin Timberlake this year with Filthy/Say Something!

Both of them were proper singles so it's not quite the same. It Sanctify wasn't a full single, it'd be more comparable to Tom Odell releasing Wrong Crowd a few weeks before official single Magnetised.

I think we can retroactively call Filthy a buzz single considering its lack of proper success and how quick they were to move on to Say Something. if Sanctify does similarly poorly I'm sure they'll quickly move on too but I think it will be a hit, it's off to a decent start.
Filthy was definitely a single. Surely we can't just call a single a buzz single just because it underperformed?

Is that not what people have being doing on this forum for years? Not saying I completely agree that we should, but in this case the label were very quick to move on from 'Filthy' once they realised it was doing poorly which made it seem like a buzz single (though we can say technically it was a proper single).

Anyway back on topic I quite enjoy this new Y&Y single though they've done better quite a few times.

'Filthy' was 100% a single. 'Say Something' is the 2nd single (but was 3rd promo single).

'Supplies' and 'Man Of The Woods' were promo singles that got videos. None of them received promo or Airplay (except a couple of spot performances for 'Supplies' for JT in the US to drum up more sales after people had just seen his Superbowl perf)

Oh and really don't like this at all! But then again I've never been a Y&Y fan tbh.

it’s all super poncy

it’s like a 15 yo overthinking their latin homework

laborious

palo santo?

palo alto is a place but palo santo is this incense sticks

but just means "holy stick" so maybe it's just an euphemism for penis :D

This seems to have peaked, already falling down to #66 on Spotify.

Agreed, this does seem to be dead already. Even the 59p reduction barely made any difference.

If this wasn’t the actual single as it was originally claimed, I guess we should get the lead single in the next month or so?
It clearly was a single but I hope we get single 2 soon.
I like Sanctify, I prefer it to most of their early material.

I think its the Florence tactic where the first single (What the Water Gave Me, What Kind of Man) is given a video/playlistwd etc, basically a single but it’s officially classified as a promo single for reasons unknown. Then the next single (Shake It Out, Ship to Wreck) is the big commercial single that is given an even bigger push.

Sanctify is quite meh anyway, it’s nice that its not a complete replica of the first era but I’m not excited to go back to it.

I still think it could do well in the coming weeks, with increased airplay and a better placement on spotify hothits
