Country-pop will be the next trend. :/

Country dance pop was popular about 4 years ago with the likes of ‘Timber’, ‘Wake Me Up’, ‘Hey Brother’, ‘Lovers On The Sun all being big hits so could be!

Can't see it personally. The Bebe Rexha track is more of a fluke hit than a trend indicator and even that isn't very country imo (for one I actually enjoy it). We could see more country acts popping up on pop singles but nothing more.

personally I don't think urban is a trend

it's not like despacito/latin music last year that you heard despacito on the bus, at the gym, at the store, your nieces age 5 were singing it

urban is dominating the charts cos thats what a very very specific age group that uses spotify is listening to, but don't think there's a trend or global domination happening, it's not like you take a taxi and bump there comes J Hus or that a random person on the street passes you by singing J Hus

I actually think it's a problem, that a very narrow demographic of spotify users are having way too much effect on the charts, very disproportionate , while other groups have zero effect

So for me it's not a trend, it's a disproportionate chart effect of a very specific group of people

that's my opinion

Maybe you are right Bjork, but that specific age group that listens to predominantly urban music now on spotify are probably a similar age to the people I would say that have influenced the charts anyway even before streaming took off, so it is still is a trend as to what they are listening to.

I think its a trend anyway, urban is dominating the charts like dance did in 2014.

As for global domination, the US charts are even more urban dominated than the UK chart I would say!

I do think we may see an increase of tracks on the poppier side of indie becoming hits, especially with Paradise and Feel it Still being in the charts now!

The urban trend will continue though I think for a while yet.
