Thanks for doing this, Danny. Glad to see that 'My Way' made #1.

No bother, hopefully you'll like the upcoming countdowns just as much

Great work Danny, much appreciated!

I should have known My Way would be way in front, it would take a lot of Christmases for The Pogues & Mariah to close that gap...

Speaking of which, for some reason the OCC lists the 1991 release of FONY (when it went 64-49-38-36-69) separately to the rest of its chart run, and (if my maths is working) if you added these to its total below that would make it no. 2 here! Still it would have got there soon anyway...

4 - The Pogues ft Kirsty MacColl - Faitytale of Ne York - 6,288 Points

Peak Position - 2

Weeks on chart - 89

Chart Run - 40-19-8-2-2-4-19-39-68-82-89-3-5-12-41-63-84-46-23-10-6-13-94-81-33-12-8-4-9-62-44-19-13-12-19-91-85-58-31-18-18-12-91-75-51-27-26-19-17-47-23-15-13-13-68-91-53-27-15-18-12-32-85-53-16-15-14-24-80-67-18-11-11-17-58-20-15-13-46-66-16-18-15-15-55-10-7-7-5

Anyhow, look forward to seeing how the albums pan out - lots of greatest hits and Bat Out Of Hell somewhere above its chart peak of #9 methinks!

Edited by jimwatts

Good old Frank Sinatra beats all those recent singles. :)

Looking forward to the albums countdown. I'll post more comments on that than I did for the singles.

Interesting that The Pogues are higher than Mariah! :o Of course I'm not complaining :P

Why wouldn't it be? It's charted in several more years than hers did and is never more than a few places behind :P

'My Way' is such a curious case, is there any reasonable explanation as to how that charted continuously for so long when literally no other song in history did so? (until the advent of downloads of course, but even then nothing really came that close).

I have been following this even when not commenting, congrats on actually finishing it this time, looking forward to the other countdowns :magic:

still a long way to go for The Pogues and by that time Mariah would have overtook anyway.

I actually don't think Mariah will, the gap is too big and they both do well at Christmas

The Pogues would get to #1 in 4 years at the current rate (and will get there before Mariah overtakes them as she's only closed the gap by ~100 points this year). That's of course if the OCC doesn't make any more significant rule changes.

I agree, the Christmas songs are the only ones that will get an increase every year unless the chart rules change again so I can see a few creeping into the top 10

Great to see these lists updated! A fair number of additions from the last couple of years (well, mostly 2017 so far) despite ACR, plus 3 Lions at #50 (the 2 versions combined?) I'd expect Shotgun and This Is Me to climb a lot over the coming months and One Kiss to be one of the next to enter.

Well with 3 lions I wasn’t sure what to do, either combine 2 versions or all 3 because essentially it’s all the same song but just slight changes to the versus

'All 3'? There are only 2 (unless you also counted the 2010 version by 'The Squad' which charted separately).

The 96 and 98 versions have long had their sales combined by the OCC so it only makes sense to combine them in things like this as well. Slightly different lyrics but the same artists and overall the same song.

A third Ed Sheeran song in this top 10 is sure to have delighted Buzzjack no end ^_^

I did a rough calculation on One Kiss the other day and it's on less than 3000 points, so not as close to impacting here as I thought, especially if it's about to hit ACR again. Not sure what else is close - Lost Without You if it stays on SCR for another 2 months maybe...

There are not many songs close to being in the top 100 and just wait until Ed Sheehan’s new album we could even see a 4th song.
