if somebody told me it's some Humbug b-sides, I'd totally believe it, a step backwards imho and not worth a 5-year wait
I wouldn’t be harsh with this album, I enjoy it in fact. But it is a really unexpected turn in the direction!
I'll check the full album out later, but "Four Out Of Five" seems okay on first listen - decent as an album track, strange as a lead single?! The radio edit might help for that though. I do like how it builds.
Four Out Of Five is the only track I instantly liked maybe the others will grow idk wasn't what I was expecting after their time away.
Why the hell would you kick off an album with track 1 - a 6 minute snorefest? I assume it'll grow after multiple listens but I'm not excited for the rest

even NME, who's been promoting AM on a weekly basis despite them not having an album in 5 years by making up stories about them every other week, give the album only 4 out of 5 stars, them not giving the album the top marks despite the 5-year payola is the easiest indication that the album is the snoozefest

This album was a struggle to get through when paying full attention. It might be alright to have on in the background whilst working - or if off your head on drugs (not something I plan to try). "Four Out Of Five" is definitely the best track on first listen.

I wondered if they’d go a bit less commercial with this release.

I’m not keen on Star Treatment as an opener but apart from that I’m really liking this. Especially liking the title track, Golden Trunks and Four out of Five, such a great run of three. It’ll be one that brings more with repeated listens, much like Suck It and See, which I wasn’t keen on at all at first but is now one of my favourites.

I listened through this earlier while doing some work and it just kinda came & went, I can’t remember much of it now :P Definitely not as strong as their previous album on first listen but we’ll see with time

Didn’t enjoy this at all and I loved AM. I thought they’d come back with something groundbreaking and go stratospheric this era, as AM had set them up so well to really soar even further into legend status with another strong album.

But it won’t happen with this damp squib, which I can’t see selling well at all beyond the first few weeks. Maybe they didn’t release any pre-album singles because they know how uncommercial it is and have been banking on a lot of people buying it blind on the first week based on how much they liked AM.

They are continuing the recent trend of one classic album and one underground left of centre release!
Four Out of Five is pretty good, definitely nothing groundbreaking for them though and doesn't sound particularly memorable. This reaction isn't filling me with hope for much else either, shame :(
