Posted April 17, 20187 yr New J Cole album that was supposedly recorded in two weeks is out on Friday. Album name has the initials of KOD, also the album apparently has a Smokepurpp feature which I'm sure will get the hype train going on Buzzjack!!1! Not really expecting much from this. Aside from 'Neighbours' his last project was pretty poor.
April 17, 20187 yr Was just coming to post this, hyped for this! His albums are normally solid, really liked Deja Vu and Neighbours from the last one amongst others. His favourite of mine is 'Power Trip' though.
April 21, 20187 yr This is a really good album. J. Cole never disappoints. The (supposed) response to Lil Pump is a great song.
April 24, 20187 yr I've given the album a listen... tbh it has bored me to death. Felt like one long track. I tried!
April 24, 20187 yr One of the more overrated rappers on the scene for me. A lot of my friends absolutely love him tho for some reason. Power Trip & Crooked Smile remain great tracks!
April 29, 20187 yr This bored me too on first listen :( (i've seen a fair few others saying the same). He has a lot to say but there's little to no variation at all throughout. I'll probably give it a few more listens to see if it grows but it's no 'Born Sinner' album.
April 30, 20187 yr He breaks a record this week for being the first to have three US top 10 debuts in one week #06 ATM #08 Kevin's Heart #10 KOD The album sells 397,000 (including 215,000 SEA - third biggest streaming figure ever behind Drake 'More Life' and Kendrick Lamar 'DAMN', but will be overtaken by Post Malone next week) Really don't get it. What's so special about him??
April 30, 20187 yr It's just the next big hop hop act breaking the next big record. Drake will break another record next time no doubt, then Kendrick will break some sort of random record, and so on...
April 30, 20187 yr yeah but he doesn't deserve to be close to the level of Drake, Kendrick and Post Malone imo.
April 30, 20187 yr I cannot fathom how J. Cole has amassed such a large fanbase despite never having any massive hit singles, at least Drake, Kendrick and Post have that going for them! The perception I get from Reddit is that the hip-hop ~community~ generally finds him quite boring as well. I'm sure Drake will match or beat that record of 3 top 10 debuts in a week when 'Scorpion' comes out anyway. (If it isn't already matched/beaten by Post this week that is...)
