April 23, 20187 yr I think Lady GaGa and Katy Perry are probably the next to go unless either has a HUGE comeback. I think both will be supported so long as the music is radio friendly (which is more of a worry with Gaga). But if their next eras don't spawn some hit singles, yes they'll both be on the chopping block for after that.
April 23, 20187 yr the Mariah Carey song? they absolutely love it. they play all the Christmas classics even some of the really old ones occasionally.
April 23, 20187 yr They don't play Liam or Noel Gallagher's solo material, which surprises me when Foo Fighters are still deemed fine. Slightly different but what irks me is their snub of any Eurovision artist. I get their reasoning a lot of the time (genre doesn't fit etc) but snubbing Euphoria in 2012 was completely ridiculous, it was the biggest hit around Europe for a few weeks, a popular and well-received top three hit here, and was sonically suitable for the playlist. There was no single reason not to playlist it apart from snobbery. I imagine Noel & Liam are because they fit on Radio 2, whilst I can't imagine Foo Fighters being on R2.

April 23, 20187 yr Paloma Faith has been snubbed with every release after Picking Up the Pieces, ie. her first top 10 and biggest hit to that point  :drama: (barring her collabs obviously)
April 23, 20187 yr I think Paloma is the most outrageous because of the fact she is hugely successful and British too, its as if they don't want successful British female solo artists unless the are urban and have overtly sexual videos!
April 23, 20187 yr not surprised R1 quickly dumped Paloma, she's become the very definition of a Radio 2 artist (minus the dance collabs). Not a bad thing for her of course as her R2 and Heart airplay does wonders for her album sales.
April 23, 20187 yr Paloma seems to have a crossover appeal of all ages so I think Radio 1 are quite silly to ignore that!
April 23, 20187 yr Yeh they usually play at least 2-3 albums before the move. Paloma seems to have been dropped after one!
April 23, 20187 yr Yeah I do find it bizarre that Paloma Faith is snubbed! Cry Baby could’ve been a huge hit with R1 support. I think both will be supported so long as the music is radio friendly (which is more of a worry with Gaga). But if their next eras don't spawn some hit singles, yes they'll both be on the chopping block for after that. I don’t think we’ll see a chop for Katy any time soon tbh. I think the new Gaga album is pop so I think she’ll be fine too.

It's clear she is popular with their demographic too.
April 23, 20187 yr the most stupid thing about the Paloma snub is that the first song of hers they ignored was Can't rely on me, her collaboration with Pharrell which was 1000% tailored for R1, if he had been credited they'd sure had playlisted it I think one of the most bizarre snubs was Robbie's Candy, the song had clearly universal appeal no matter how old RW was
April 23, 20187 yr The Paloma snub is bizarre. I could have seen them dumping her by now, just not when they did. Maroon 5 were an odd one. Dumped after their second era like many artists of the time and R1 even tried to pretend Moves Like Jagger wasn’t happening. Since then though they’ve been pretty consistently playlisted but I reckon that won’t last much longer.

April 23, 20187 yr I thought it was touch and go with Pink last year, but What About Us was an out the gate smash. No idea if they’ll support her next era though. They’re pretty swift like that. Like All the Lovers was a-listed for weeks, but by the time the third from Aphrodite came they wouldn’t touch her.

With Robbie they were preparing to let him go from the infamous 2006 Rudebox release but then Take That were so huge amongst all ages thereafter they stuck with him with the Bodies era then dropped his solo material. The Love My Life release really was symbolic of how streaming was skewing older artists in the modern chart.
