I mean, I like classical music so I don't think there's anything wrong with a piece of music being long - I just think most songs have a "right" length and that's not always the same length that the writers think it is.

Radio 1's edit of Just Got Paid jumps straight from the first chorus to French Montana's verse, skipping the first drop and Meghan Trainor's part. Which is basically half the song. :drama:

They seem to have a habit of shortening songs too, this isn't the only one.

I noticed that before, and they cut half of Taki Taki too by skipping straight to Cardi's part during the chart :drama:

This all depends when Radio 1 plays these tracks. At the top and bottom of the hour, they often played edited versions of tracks with their own edited sting on the front, usually so they can play 3 in a row. But, I have noticed they play around with some tracks for unknown reasons... Dynoro for instance is not a long track anyway but they’ve shortened it and edited out some of the vocal.

The version of Alan Walker’s Faded they play is infuriatingly short.

Wasn't just in the chart too I heard that edit today as well, they clearly try to play as little Spanish language vocals as possible (a big chunk of I Like It got cut, and they didn't A-list Despacito, etc.).

Capital and Kiss have been doing it for years though, but I suppose it works for commercial radio. People do tune in to Radio 1 to hear current music and I do worry their persistence in editing tracks (mainly urban and dance) is just going to drive people to other stations/formats and I’m pretty sure that’s not what they’re trying to achieve here. I know Radio 1 are trying to appeal to wider market by playing tracks, but if you’re going to play Taki Taki for instance, and make it ‘Tune of the Weekend’, they could at least play it in full
Yeah, Radio 1 and Capital both have a habit of cutting sections out of songs now!

I Like It had a couple of radio edits weirdly - J Balvin's verse suffered in both  He was cut out entirely in the original edit, while all of Bad Bunny's verse remained. The second one cut half of Bad Bunny's out, while J Balvin's only contribution was in the "I like it like that" parts with Cardi. They never seemed to settle on one version to play :')

^Never understood why J Balvin got cut whilst Bad Bunny remained. J Balvin has the more interesting verse for me, if only for the Lady Gaga line.
Maybe they have a (bizarre) reserved approach to foreign language songs for whatever reason. If they’re under the assumption it’s not what we want to hear they they are very very wrong

Well yeah, they repeated the Bieber verse in Despacito over DY's verse, they played the awful version of Mi Gente with Beyonce way more than the original, even now they play the unnecessary Nicki Minaj version of Idol by BTS. They are, as you say, wrong!

Re: Dynoro

Just heard the same edit played on Kiss so that must be the version sent to all radio rather than a case of R1 editing it themselves.

Well, the Nicki Minaj version is the single?

Well, the Nicki Minaj version is the single?

Could forgive them for that at least but it doesn't take away their apparent dislike of the Spanish language.

I’ve noticed that songs are getting shorter lately. For instance, NOW can squeeze 24 tracks onto a disc whereas before, they could only squeeze 21 or 22 and they’d be lucky if they could squeeze 23
Joseph is right if a song is short I'm more likely to play it twice in a row it's chart manipulation really but don't think it's because Spotify users have short attention spans
