3. Diego Maradona (160pts)

Finishing surprisingly low in his semi, Maradona makes up for it by finishing in third, albeit behind Messi (which I'm sure some people will be questioning). Maradona began his career at Argentinos Juniors, before moving to Boca Juniors and then Barcelona for a world record fee. He won the Copa Del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup in his first season with the team, however numerous disputes, including a violent fight at the Copa Del Rey in 1984, lead to him moving on to Napoli. Quickly becoming captain, he won the team's first ever Serie A title in 1987, and became the league's top scorer in the 1988-89 season. He played in four World Cups, but is most well known for his 'Hand of God' in 1986, however then scored what was to be voted the 'Goal of the Century', dribbling past five players to put his team up 2-1.

2. Lionel Messi (165pts)

Now I think everyone would have been surprised if Messi had won but he's certainly done better than expected here. A player who has spent all of his senior career at Barcelona, Messi played his first senior match aged 17 and quickly became an integral part of the team. Messi helped his team win the first treble in Spanish football in 2009, and won four consecutive Ballons d'Or. In 2015, he broke the all-time goalscoring records in both the La Liga and the Champions' League, and is also Argentina's all-time leading goalscorers. I'm certain he will be looked upon as a legend of the game in years to come.

Although the one true legend of the sport is Brazilian superstar Pelé, who really had no rivals in this competition. Pelé spent nearly all his career at Santos, being taken to try out by his youth team coach, who claimed he would be 'the greatest football player in the world'. Pele impressed, and made his senior debut aged just 15 against Corinthians. By 16, he was the top scorer in the league, and had already been called up to the Brazil national team. He won his first title with Santos with a record-breaking goal count which still stands today. He won the Copa Libertadores in 1962 and 1963, scoring 619 goals in 638 appearances for the team and won three consecutive World Cups with his country. He finished his career with the New York Cosmos, and is a worldwide ambassador for football to this day.
