Biography

 

Ebba Tove Elsa Nilsson (born 29 October 1987), known professionally as Tove Lo (Swedish pronunciation: [²tuːvɛ luː] lit. "Lynx"), is a Swedish singer-songwriter. Called "Sweden's darkest pop export" by Rolling Stone, she is known for her raw, grunge-influenced take on pop music. Her honest, complex and autobiographical lyrical content has led to her being dubbed "the saddest girl in Sweden".

 

She was born and raised in the Djursholm district of Danderyd, a northern suburb of Stockholm, and is an alumna of the musical magnet school Rytmus Musikergymnasiet. She formed the rock band Tremblebee in 2006. Following the disbanding of Tremblebee, she pursued a career in songwriting and earned a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell Music in 2011. Working with producers Alexander Kronlund, Max Martin, and Xenomania, she became a successful songwriter recording and independently releasing her own compositions.

 

In 2014, Lo was signed to Max Martin's Wolf Cousins and offered a recording deal. She signed to Island US and Polydor. She rose to fame with her debut album, Queen of the Clouds, which opened at number 14 on the U.S. Billboard 200 in October 2014. The album spawned the sleeper hit single "Habits (Stay High)", which peaked at number 3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Her second album, Lady Wood, was released in October 2016, opening at number 11 on the Billboard 200. It was promoted by the single "Cool Girl". Her third album, Blue Lips, was released in November 2017, peaking at number 138 on the Billboard 200.

 

In addition to her solo work, Lo has co-written a number of songs for other singers, including Lorde's "Homemade Dynamite" and Ellie Goulding's "Love Me like You Do", a song that garnered her her first Grammy Award nomination for the 58th Grammy Awards. She has collaborated with many artists like Alesso, Flume, Nick Jonas, Seven Lions, Broods, Urban Cone and Coldplay. - Wikipedia

Rebecca Claire "Becky" Hill (born 14 February 1994) is an English singer and songwriter from Bewdley, Worcestershire. She rose to prominence after appearing on the first series of The Voice UK, auditioning with John Legend's "Ordinary People". She joined Jessie J's team and reached the semi-final of the competition. That's what I expected! Great job Calvin, Dua and Jess for topping the UK charts this week!

I'm always surprised by how popular Jess Glynne is! Her music's great, but she doesn't have a huge online fanbase, yet her music almost always does well.

her too. but half of the time she’s asking for it.

I’m very delighted that 5SOS and Maroon 5 are back in the UK Top 40 - I like both of their catchy songs. Is it just me or are the male pop acts seem to have less impact on the charts than the female pop acts and male hip-hop acts?

 

Shocking to see such a big drop for Shawn Mendes and Banx & Ranx, but both of their songs got a decent chart run.

 

I’m surprised to see the three Kanye West album tracks charting high - a big plus for him and other hip-hop acts doing extremely very well on streaming but not good enough on sales.

 

It was a bit boring to have the same top 5 songs from one or two weeks ago (I think) this week or probably in the coming weeks, but Ariana, Drake, Anne-Marie, Calvin/Dua and Jess are having such a fantastic run - all five deserve big tunes that have huge impacts not only in the UK charts but also in the official charts around the world.

 

8 weeks at #1 for ‘One Kiss’ is such a huge achievement for Calvin Harris. Having Dua Lipa as the vocalist and the deep house sound for his musical direction, not to mention the lyrics which talks about relationship possibilities, all seemed to have a right time to make a huge effort for him. His house/EDM tunes really deserve better in the charts than his urban funky tunes from last year. Such a talented man who created his own music (despite all his controversies) and I hope his future singles perform extremely well in the charts after the success of ‘One Kiss’. I guess from now on Calvin will be way popular as big as Drake and Ed Sheeran.

 

I’m really looking forward to listening the Official Chart Show on BBC Radio 1 next week with Scott Mills presenting, hoping to have a big difference on the both sound and direction compared to last week.

There have been worse drops than Answerphone, yes- just feels a bit more surprising considering it had only just peaked, and felt way too early for it to be on ACR :(

 

I guess from now on Calvin will be way popular as big as Drake and Ed Sheeran.

 

He has always been very popular here, for quite a few years in fact- but I am surprised it's spent this long at #1, especially considering his last few singles kind of flopped. The hot weather here over the past few weeks helped One Kiss massively IMO
