But iTunes probably counts for less than a tenth of what Spotify does towards the Charts now so that's that negated.

Not with the new paid up/ free streams split. It eould appear the people who pay the subscriptions aren't big Drake fans which doesn't surprise me. They probably prefer real music, seeing ss they are paying for it.

Drake does even better on Apple Music than Spotify and there is no free version of that minus the 3-month free trials, which can't account for most of the Drake streams, so your statement has no basis in fact.

Only college hipsters use Apple Music. They play what they think their friends think is cool during the breaks on speakers.

I swear every post you make gets more and more ridiculous

do you follow the charts? itunes has been decissive last few weeks and again this week

if things are close on streaming, itunes makes a big difference, ezra is gonna get 10-15k sales more than drake on itunes

that will make him #1, otherwise he wouldn't

iTunes has a really low share of the overall "sales" each week now. But towards the top of the chart it has a much bigger effect.

For example when we're talking about the songs charting at #10,000 (if the chart went on that far), the average song might be getting about 97% of its points from streaming, but when we look at the very top end of the chart (which we are now since we're talking about George Ezra and Drake), it probably counts between 10 - 20% for the average song in that region.

Last week George got about 35% of his points from sales I think (which I think is much higher than average for nowadays), whilst for the singles market overall it's only about 6% determined by sales, at least in the formula the OCC uses.

So I would say iTunes is still important for when we're talking about who will be #1.

Awww it's a shame that Three Lions doesn't look likely to crack the top 40 this year. It managed it in 2014 despite the fact England didn't even win a single match! (Yes yes I know streaming wasn't counted back then).

If England do the unthinkable and actually go on to win the World Cup, I wonder how high Three Lions could get then? Top 10?

Screaming at this. My mum uses Apple Music! For people who don't already stream music first buying an Apple Product, Apple Music is becoming the norm. It makes up 30% of paid streams now which is actually a rather large proportion!

If England win tonight then Three Lions will get a boost.

There's no 'if' about it, it's coming home!

I'm not saying it definitely is coming home, but there's a good chance

They'll be coming home alright tomorrow on the first plane back.

Poor Florence :( Music is dead.

so sales are much higher than last week, Ezra was doing 8k a day, now he's doing 12k a day

guess it's cos the new streaming ratio rather cos of YT, guess theres more premium people than we thought

The physical copy for Drake's album isn't out yet. I'm not sure why they've decided to do that. Some people I know can only play CDs in their car and don't have bluetooth, I'm sure it will sell well.
More Life didn't have physical copy either and it opened with 67k. Views' first week was 78k, that too was digital only. With growing streaming in general, he should be able to at least those numbers
