It looks like that as iTunes downloads continue to be lower and lower, we have now reached the point where we can see how many songs have been downloaded within the tracking timeline, so in the current update we can see that only 1472 songs have made it to the 'top 1500'. This also means that you can now download any random old gem and it will show up on the iTunes chart within ten minutes!

So realistically could buzzjack put a song inside the top 500 if 2 years ago we nearly got top 1000?

Might be worth doing another iTunes chart campaign for buzzjack's 13th anniversary.

I think it's just that LivePopBars sometimes doesn't load the entire thing. It's always been like that, as far as I recall (although, granted, I get 1472 too, so it's not a matter of refreshing).

An easy way to confirm this is checking some of the small countries that have iTunes charts: I currently get a top 1290 for Saint Kitts and Nevis, a top 1283 for Antigua & Barbuda, and a top 1313 for Macau; there's no way that those countries have ~88% as many songs being sold as the UK.

I also doubt that the charts are limited to songs sold in the last 24 or 48 hours. Unless they've subtly changed things in the last couple years, I've long believed that the iTunes charts are based on a weighted system prioritising more recent sales - as in, hypothetically with completely made-up numbers, if, say, sales from the last 12 hours count fully, sales from 12-24 hours ago have 80% weight, sales from the previous day have 60% weight; that sort of thing. The reason I've believed this is having occasionally seen (a) songs made album-only slowly fall down the charts for >2 days and (b) new releases start falling before 24 hours, although admittedly I don't remember what the songs were so I'm not a great reference.

So I believe that if sales fell low enough, the bottom end of the top 1500 would still be populated with sales from over 24-48 hours ago, and I assume that's what happens with small countries' charts.

An interesting, outstanding case is the Venezuelan iTunes chart, which currently looks like this:

1. PSY - Gangnam Style (강남스타일)

2. Adele - Someone Like You

3. Adele - Rolling In the Deep

4. Marc Anthony - Vivir Mi Vida

5. Rihanna - We Found Love (feat. Calvin Harris)

6. Rihanna - Diamonds

7. Wisin & Yandel - Algo Me Gusta de Ti (feat. Chris Brown & T-pain)

8. LMFAO - Sexy and I Know It

9. Wisin & Yandel - Follow the Leader (feat. Jennifer Lopez)

10. Adele - Skyfall

11. Alejandro Fernández - Hoy Tengo Ganas de Ti (feat. Christina Aguilera)

12. LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem (feat. Lauren Bennett & Goonrock)

13. Victor Manuelle - Si Tú Me Besas

14. Rihanna - Where Have You Been

15. Chino & Nacho - El Poeta

16. Fonseca - Eres Mi Sueño

17. Adele - Set Fire to the Rain

18. Daft Punk - Get Lucky (feat. Pharrell Williams & Nile Rodgers)

19. Franco de Vita - Tan Sólo Tú (feat. Alejandra Guzmán) [Live]

20. Gotye - Somebody That I Used to Know (feat. Kimbra)

As you can see, it's filled with huge hits from ~2011-2013 - roughly the peak years of iTunes. My guess is that sales there are either extremely low or straight-up non-existent, so with no recent sales to produce a chart from, it keeps going further back and ends up defaulting to what may well be an all-time top sellers list.

There's something of an in-between state in Guatemala, where it currently starts with a few recent songs before going to 2011-2013 smashes:

1. Nicky Jam - Live It Up (Official Song 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia) [feat. Will Smith & Era Istrefi]

2. Drake - In My Feelings

3. Dillon Francis - Never Let You Go (feat. De La Ghetto)

4. John Mayer - New Light

5. lovelytheband - Broken

6. Chromeo - Must've Been (feat. DRAM)

7. Vice - Don't Go (feat. Becky G and Mr. Eazi)

8. Galantis - Satisfied (feat. MAX)

9. Bohemia Suburbana - En el Jardín (En Vivo)

10. Marc Anthony - Vivir Mi Vida

11. Pharrell Williams - Happy (from "Despicable Me 2")

12. PSY - Gangnam Style (강남스타일)

13. Adele - Rolling In the Deep

14. Adele - Someone Like You

15. P!nk - Just Give Me a Reason

I've noticed similar in the Australian music videos chart, too.

High Hopes *.* So f***ing happy about Panic! getting an actual hit in the UK again

^it was in the press a few weeks back that a track can make the top 100 on itunes in Spain with 1 sale

we know that in the UK, the #1 track sells an average of 2K a day

track #100 on itunes is usually at 0.01-0.02 relative to the #1 song on kworb, so thats 20-30 sales per day for the track at #100, 40 max

sure we could try here to buy all a track and see if that holds true

if track #1 sells 20 copies, sure tracks 1000-1500 just sell 1-5 copies

I'd be surprised if fewer than 1,500 different songs were being bought per day on iTunes UK. We know almost a million downloads are still sold every month so there's got to be thousands of different songs selling 1 copy a week. It's a very long tail.

So basically we may as well say ITunes is pretty redundant I expected it but not this fast not even 5 years

I vote for Fuego :music:

First time listening to "Lost Without You" - sublime!

This will massive by the end of the year. When X Factor returns they will absolutely hammer this as background music.
