March 17, 20232 yr Yeah the Sony signing is a bit of a surprise. I’m guessing as a benefit they’d at least have any potential masters if they decided to give us unreleased songs?
March 17, 20232 yr This could've been something fairly good if that chorus popped a bit more, as it is it's a bit of a damp squib and a non-event. They look really, really good though!
March 17, 20232 yr I’ve said it already but its biggest problem is that it simply doesn’t sound like them!
March 17, 20232 yr I’ve said it already but its biggest problem is that it simply doesn’t sound like them! Yep, it really is missing their stamp that makes it theirs. I’m hoping with any more new music they lean a bit more into the Irish sound like some precious releases.
March 19, 20232 yr I’m shocked they’ve teamed up with Sony again and that Sony have faith in new music from them - I was expecting them to self release or be with an indie. I'm not that surprised to be honest - Sony knows that they can benefit from their backcatalogue essentially being promoted. The new music will be done on the cheap with lots of physicals I'm sure, which might end up with small profit + if it's a 360 deal they might get money from tours etc.
March 21, 20232 yr PObCtI5yy14 ETA: they said they're looking at touring in 2024, so I'm guessing they're going to spend 2023 building up to it. Edited March 21, 20232 yr by tommie
March 21, 20232 yr Hopefully that means they’re going to spend some time this year recording new music.
March 25, 20232 yr Decided to give Awake and Breathe a listen as I've shamefully never heard it, how the hell was this not a single? GkjCYpqcbLw It's waaay better than all the singles off that album. It should've been their Christmas single, it could've been their 'To You I Belong' moment again (or even 'Blame it On the Weatherman' with the seasonal references)
March 25, 20232 yr The album itself doesn’t live up to the debut, that’s for sure! Yeah, it was a bit of a comedown for sure and I think its chart performance reflected that. It does have its moments though.
March 25, 20232 yr I think the chart performance reflects how epically they f***ed up the campaign if anything. 'Jesse Hold On' was a bit too tacky/immature to come back with, like on the wrong side of what they were doing previously and it's a bit of an embarrassment... and how anybody thought 'I Shall Be There' was a good idea is astounding (particularly to try and rescue the campaign at Christmas!) It admittedly doesn't have anything that compares to the 4 singles from the debut, but there were much better choices available which could have made it more successful.
March 26, 20232 yr I loved it at the time and I was always disappointed it never got a release here. I remember feeling flat when I saw it debuted at #13. I actually put shed the import at the time.
May 26, 20232 yr Author Another limited edition vinyl of the debut is coming on 23rd next month, this time in blue, limited to 1000 copies worldwide: https://townsendmusic.store/product/115004 Also "C'est La Vie" was officially released 25 years ago this week! What even?
July 2, 20232 yr Awake and Breathe being released on vinyl in August! Snatched it as soon as I saw it earlier! My favourite of the 2 by far from them.
July 2, 20232 yr Snatched it as soon as I saw it earlier! My favourite of the 2 by far from them. Also snapped it up! Mock up looks a gorgeous colour as well!
