Razorlight are back - 10 years after the release of their last album "Slipway Fires"!

Johnny Borrell was interviewed by NME with more info, and revealed 4 new tracks to be taken from 4th album "Olympus Sleeping" (below).

I'm super excited for album 4! Loved the first 2 albums and were one of my favourite bands of the 2000s. "Golden Touch" is one of my all time favourite songs, but there was plenty more quality than just that one song. Razorlight's self-titled 2nd album hit the number 1 spot, denying Lily Allen of the accolade with her debut album "Alright, Still" if I recall correctly, and 2nd single from that album "America" made it to number 1 in the UK singles chart.

Not sure when these 4 tracks will be added to Apple Music or Spotify et al for streaming but at least we've got something! The new tracks all take me back to the sound of albums 1 and 2 which is good. "Slipway Fires" was more like "Slipway Misfires" for me, but I've grown to like it more over time. Anyone else excited?

Razorlight were one of the better indie landfill bands of the mid 2000s (most of them were awful!), I'm looking forward to listening to these!

Name them :o I'm intrigued :P

Well, most of them were just so generic it made them awful. My least favourite are The Fratellis, The Hoosiers and Scouting for Girls. I would say The Wombats as well, but I really like their newer stuff.

personally, razorlight were the worst uk band in the mid 00s, and the guy's ego was too much to handle
I would say the landfill was more lively stuff like Pigeon Detectives and The Hives basically one hit wonder stuff which no one listens to anymore. I don't think I would count The Wombats, Razorlight or The Kooks indie landfill as their music is still listened to.

I just remembered one of the worst band names of all time...

Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong

They weren't bad, but that name!

It's a shame they never released their finished debut album, it had even been given to critics for review, but they scrapped it as it 'didn't represent their current sound'. NME even gave it 8/10!

I wasn't too fussed on The Fratellis at the time either, can't put my finger on what it was! The Hoosiers I could not STAND at the time, and I also felt that way about Scouting For Girls until I suddenly flip reversed on that having heard their first album against my will. Great album, and the lead from album 2 was also great, for me anyway, but I totally get it.

The Wombats though, "Moving To New York" for one was amaaazing

Really liking all 4 new tracks from Razorlight - now available to stream/purchase!

It always confuses me when people lumber Scouting for Girls and The Hoosiers as landfill indie. Yes, they play music with guitars, but they couldn’t be any closer to pop music if they tried (and as far as I’m aware, neither were marketed as indie bands in the same vein as The Fratellis, The Kooks, Razorlight, Arctic Monkeys etc were...).
It's a difficult one, a bit like comparing Haircut 100 with The Jam in 1981!

:o The Hives are brilliant, and do not deserve to even be mentioned in the same breath as any of these.

Album is out and it's enjoyable enough! Hard to say there's a standout, but no bad tracks either so it's a solid listen. Nothing of "Golden Touch", "Somewhere Else", "America" quality - was hoping for just one - but still solid. I'd give it 3.5 or 4 stars out of 5, will listen again.
Yeh listened twice this week and it's a solid effort with Razorchild and Japanrock my favs!!

"Carry Yourself" - the new single - has emerged as a big favourite for me, and actually may stand up well against the best of their discography!

Yeh it's fantastic!! Great choice for second single.

Have they had any airplay at all? Radio 2?

This album has become a favourite of the year for me the past couple of weeks. Not one bad track, all have that retro 00s indie feeling, but in a refreshing way. And "Carry Yourself" is excellent, my new number 1 this week
Exactly the same here, one orb the best albums of the year - Carry Yourself no3 (so far) in my chart!
